Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I am obligated to follow the directives of the United States Supreme Court regarding the legality of abortion. Until and unless the U.S. Supreme Court reverses or modifies it’s decision in Roe v. Wade, the issue of abortion is a federal one. The U.S. Supreme Court has clearly spoken regarding the limited legality of abortion as outlined in Roe v. Wade.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

The American founders very wisely created three separate branches in the federal government: executive, legislative, and judicial. They created a system of checks and balances to limit the power of any one branch of government (or any one individual). The founding fathers valued a collective governmental system as opposed to centralized & consolidated governance to avoid abuse of power, position, and authority.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian. I was born and raised in the Lutheran (Missouri Synod) faith. I was fortunate and blessed to have attended my Lutheran church’s Christian elementary school. Subsequently, I attended a Jesuit high school. I benefited from the morals and values that my religious-based education provided. I also benefited from exposure to different religious viewpoints (Lutheran Church, Christian grade school, Catholic and Jesuit high school). I also was exposed to many different cultures and religious belief systems during my nine (9) active duty years in the US Army. I am respectful of other people’s religious views as long as they are not aggressive or violent in the advocacy of their own beliefs.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Somewhat Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I have never ran for public office before 2018. Therefore, N/A.

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

I feel that government programs should reward and incentivize working and maintaining some form of employment as opposed to providing benefits solely based on the status of being unemployed or having low incomes, which potentially provides an incentive to remaining unemployed.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

I think people should be rewarded and incentivized for working. Government provided health benefits should be better quality and discounted for those people who actually hold some form of employment. For those people who do not maintain employment, while Medicade programs should still be available, those benefits should be adjusted to reflect those persons lack of contribution to the workforce. While, in general, I am cautious of government regulation and interference in the private sector, certain industries do need to be monitored and regulated with closer scrutiny. The insurance industry, in particular health insurance, is one that the government should regulate to ensure a balance between free market enterprise with the compelling health need for insurance for all people.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

The government should largely allow the free market system to self regulate itself. Certain industries, due to their quasi-governmental roles or the overwhelming compelling need to protect individuals, require closer scrutiny. I do feel that the government has a duty to appropriately manage the federal reserve interest rates and to balance global free trade against certain foreign countries who manipulate their currencies to gain an unfair advantage in trade with the US.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point and served 9 years of active duty as an officer in the Army reaching the rank of Captain. I led combat arms soldiers in an Armor (tanks) battalion. I earned a MBA in Leadership and Management from the University of Louisville while I was stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Later, I graduated from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law with a J.D. I have worked my entire legal career of 15 years exclusively as a trial lawyer serving individual citizens in civil litigation matters. I have tried over 30 jury trials and have been on the legal team in numerous multi-million dollar settlements and jury verdicts. I have spent my entire professional career in the service of others: first, in leading our soldiers and then in helping individual citizens in the greater Lorain County area.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I would like to continue my lifetime of public service by serving as the State Representative for Ohio’s 56th District so that I can positively help and influence a much larger number of Lorain County’s citizens than I can by working in my current law practice.
