Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe that life begins at conception and that abortion wrongly ends that life. Life is sacred and as such it is our job to ensure that the most vulnerable among us including unborn babies are protected. I have worked tirelessly on legislation that would do just that. I was a cosponsor of the Conscience Protection Act and the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and I was proud to lead the letter asking the administration to reform the Title X Family Planning Program which resulted in the administration creating the Protect Life Rule.

The best way to eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism is a two-pronged strategy: 1) protect our homeland from domestic attacks and 2) seek out those who want to do the United States harm and neutralize the threat. In order to protect the homeland, we must reform our broken immigration system and seal our porous borders so that they are not exploited by terrorists. We must also remain the leader of the free world by engaging with our Middle Eastern allies to tamp down and eliminate terrorists at the source.

With their experiences with British rule, they understood that centralizing too much power in one branch of government would necessarily lead to dictatorship. By creating three branches of government and a system of checks and balances, the Founders ensured that corrupting power could not be absolute.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
The federal government made the mistake of thinking that access to insurance equates to access to affordable healthcare. However, premium costs continue to skyrocket making healthcare unaffordable to individual consumers as well as to small businesses that might otherwise offer healthcare plans for their employees. Healthcare should be returned to the free market system where competition helps mitigate costs and where consumers can dictate the type of coverage and care they prefer.

Due to years of mismanagement, the Social Security system is going broke, and the budget deficit is only going to get worse. Social Security trust funds for retirement and disability will be depleted by 2034. Medicare’s Hospital Insurance Trust Fund will be depleted by 2026, three years earlier than expected just last year. We must face this reality and reform the system for future generations. As State Treasurer, I implemented reforms that significantly improved the viability of the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System. In Congress, I have been fighting to do the same with Social Security
