RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Current Texas law, allowing abortion only in limited circumstances, was finalized after thousands of hours of debate and study in and out of the legislature. It is a settled issue. It should absorb no legislative attention until the state's more pressing issues - illegal immigration, energy stability, tax relief, election security, school choice, political corruption - have been addressed.
Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.
Agree
The last few years have taught us that Big Pharma will skirt legal and moral requirements for their own benefit. For example, no risk/benefit analysis, as required by law, was provided for the Covid vaccine. This lack of knowledge has led to fear and confusion among many of the vaccinated. There must be increased transparency and accountability for drug manufacturers. This is especially true for drugs (like abortion) that involve life or death.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
Citizens who oppose abortion should not be forced to subsidize it. Abortion providers should not receive taxpayer funding
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Disagree
Life is sacred. Government should not participate in ending it.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Government has no authority to hinder the free expression of faith. The Constitution is clear on this.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
Just as individuals are not required to buy from a particular business, businesses are not required to sell to particular individuals.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
Yes. The Chinese economy is deeply intertwined with America. Chinese Communists donate to American politicians and manipulate American business. They are the greatest existential threat the US has ever faced. Efforts to decouple the American economy from China must be accelerated at every level.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. America should forge a strong relationship with every nation that shares its foundational concepts of free expression and opportunity. Israel certainly meets this standard.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C. Medicare and Medicaid should remain. Private insurance and employer-provided coverage is far superior to government provided options, and it should remain available.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
None. Vaccines should not be mandatory. Vaccines that are safe and well documented (measles, mumps, polio, etc) can be encouraged. No vaccine without extensive third party evaluation should ever be encouraged.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Personal freedom is under assault from the Biden administration. It is critical for Texas to defend it vigorously,.
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Inflated minimum wage obstructs entry level jobs for young people. Small businesses hire inexperienced people at a modest wage and raise their salary as they become experienced and valuable. Minimum wage is not meant to reflect career salary.
Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?
No
ESG is a tool for government intervention and control of independent business. Because it adds unnecessary expense, it hampers small business and empowers big corporations who can afford it. It creates false and foolish objectives. Rather than create the best product or provide the best service, a company must surrender to busybody bureaucrats who know little about its business. If you are noticing a steady decline in the quality of customer service everywhere, thank ESG.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
Illegal immigration is importing crime, disease, and poverty at a pace that is hard to imagine. America is being destabilized in ways that it cannot overcome. Culture always follows demographics, and the fundamental nature of our country is under assault. We must replace corrupt leadership, deport as many as possible, and restore legitimate policy. Both America and its neighbors benefit from a secure border.
EDUCATION
The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.
Strongly Agree
Texans have been adamant about their desire for school choice. It is blocked by an unholy alliance of teacher unions and the corrupt leadership of the Texas House of Representatives. Opponents to school choice must be removed so that Texans can get on with a discussion of the best implementation of education focused on student success and parental oversight.
iVoterGuide Notes:
Candidate notified iVoterGuide.com that his answer should have included, "I favor school choice only if it is completely free of all federal oversight or intervention. America had one of the finest educational systems in the world before the creation of the US Department of Education. The federal government cannot be allowed anywhere near private or home schooling. Since decisions about education were confiscated from states and local communities by federal bureaucrats, American education has been in rapid decline. If there is any possibility that legislation authorizing ESAs or vouchers would become a path for the federal government to intervene into any form of Texas education, I would have to oppose it."
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.
Disagree
No. American police are embattled by rising crime as well as threats of lawsuits and defunding. Our cities must increase their support of local police. Communities are healthier when they are safer.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The current system seems to work. Bad things can happen, but it remains true that the best defense against a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Arguments for gun control are foolish. The government cannot prevent criminals from getting guns. It can only prevent citizens from defending themselves. It's like claiming that, since addictive drugs are illegal, addictive drugs are no longer a problem. It makes no sense.
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
Yes, for qualified teachers in certain circumstances. Armed teachers can fill the role already provided by an armed police officer at many schools.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Government's primary role is to provide security and stability. It is far beyond these humble responsibilities. Government at all levels - federal, state, and local - must begin to downsize. It has become more expensive than we can afford, and it has become more intrusive than we can tolerate.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
My campaign theme is transparency. Transparency at every level of government. If citizens are empowered with information about how their taxes are spent, how their children are educated, how their jobs are created, and more, they can direct their government to make better decisions. Yes, I am conservative. But my job is to represent my district. I will seek their guidance and implement it. The current representative has never tried to do this simple task.
VALUES
Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.
Strongly Agree
We must protect our children. The current culture feeds upon children, confusing them with dysfunctional messages of gender dysphoria. The alliance of big government and big corporate has promoted this narrative to frightening levels. We must begin by limiting the influence of government, then by removing the unhealthy incentives the government provides, and then by reprimanding the companies that promote it.
Parents should have the right to make decisions for their minor children.
Agree
Parents know far better than bureaucrats what is best for their children. It would help if the US Department of Education were eliminated and its budgets returned to the state.
Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.
Strongly Disagree
This is not an area for government involvement. Responsible studies reflect tremendous regret from a majority who undergo transition. Government should not encourage something that so often leads to heartache.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Agree
Marriage is the foundation of the family. Family is the foundation of the American culture. When government seeks to redefine these moral principles, it is seeking to strengthen itself by weakening our existing bonds. People are free to establish relationships as they see fit, but marriage means something very specific.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Media and government are telling Americans what they are allowed to believe. This is wrong. As for me, I am a Christian. I believe in the Golden Rule, John 3:16, and the inevitability of faith. Each of us is hard-wired for faith. We instinctively believe in something. The divisions in America opened because too many people chose to worship something other than the Almighty. Maybe they worship science or reason or something else. This belief eventually descends into a worship of man over God. It is an empty assumption. Perhaps this is why so many bitterly chastise Christians who have the security of a stronger faith. I would be glad to talk about this. It is essential to a restored America. I recommend CS Lewis' writings.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
People who vote without identification can vote multiple times. This is another example that the American system of elections is designed to be fraudulent. Mail in ballots allow votes that cannot be verified. These votes are then entered into electronic machines that cannot be audited. Without valid elections, we have officials who do not represent the people they serve. Unverifiable elections are eroding trust in American government. This will not end well.
States should join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which makes the Electoral College irrelevant.
Disagree
No. The Electoral College was created to assure that the biggest states representing the largest populations did not trample on the smaller ones. Does anyone trust the failing big states - California, Illinois, New York - to determine what is best for the rest of America? If the Electoral College is abandoned, big cities and big financial interests will use government to pillage the rest of the country to benefit themselves. The Electoral College is essential to American survival.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
No. The word has lost its meaning. Racism, in the current context, means little more than 'I don't like you'. Disguised as ESG or CRT, it has become a tool to punish or reward the constituents that government and corporations like or dislike. It is a million miles apart from Martin Luther King's dream of equality.
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Disagree
America was founded to be a land of equality and opportunity. Not perfect, but alway striving. CRT is a condemnation of the American ambition. It is an ideology of hate. If this seems harsh, consider the bitterness and anger of its proponents. There are much more productive ways to discuss raising the less fortunate among us. Could we start with educational opportunity? How about school choice that lifts rather than embitters students?
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Agree
Women are biologically different from men. Not weaker, but stronger in different ways. Brute strength is a male attribute. Subjecting female athletes to competition with men is demoralizing and cruel. While women are encouraged to consider sexual harassment charges against aggressive men, we should allow men into women's private places? These moral contradictions are confusing. Is it a crazy idea to let girls be girls and guys be guys?
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.
Stricter environmental laws were implemented years ago, and they have restored a great many parts of the country. Unfortunately, bureaucrats never know when to stop. Environmental regulations increasingly make manufacturing expensive and impractical. There is a balance between a healthy environment and a healthy economy. I recommend Michael Shellenberger's writings as a barometer.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nothing else comes close to oil and gas. Texas leaders have been lured into heavy reliance on unreliable wind and solar. We get warnings of Texas grid collapse when the weather spikes up or down. Oil, gas, and nuclear are the way forward.
