QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

As the proud father of a Down syndrome young man, I understand that God makes each and every person in his likeness and we are all perfect in his eyes. My son is perfect and I thank God each and every day for his beautiful life. I believe that it is that all life is precious and we need to fiercely preserve and protect the sanctity of this gift.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

Strongly Agree

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

31. What role should government play in boosting the economy? Public I have always believed that less government and smarter, responsible regulations allow the free enterprise system to thrive. Under the Obama Administration, our government grew to a dangerous point, where unelected bureaucrats were inserting themselves into our healthcare, American businesses, and our day-to-day lives. Their regulatory agenda strangled the American economy with more than 2,353 in one year costing Americans $100 billion annually. More regulations and rules do not grow the economy, it stifles job creation and kills economic productivity. Under this new Adminstration we have successfully rolled back countless Obama regulations that grossly interfered with economic growth. So far we eliminated $81 billion in regulatory costs. I will continue to peel back the red tape imposed over the past eight years so we can unleash the American economy and create more opportunities for American workers.

What changes should be made to the tax code?

On December 22, 2017, the President signed our historic tax reform plan into law, marking the first major overhaul in the past 31 years. Our plan cuts taxes on American job creators, ensures American families can keep more of their hard-earned money, and creates a simpler system for filling out your taxes. In just one month since we have passed this pro-growth reform we have seen the benefits across the country. Companies such as AT&T, Southwest, and Comerica – all headquartered in Dallas – have announced company-wide bonuses for their employees, wage increases, and donations to organizations in their community. I believe our plan will continue to encourage economic growth, create jobs, and allow hard working Americans to keep more money in their own pockets.

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

We need to create a pro-business economic environment that encourages new startup businesses and existing firms to invest, expand their operations, and create more good paying jobs in the process. This past year we have eliminated more than $8.1 billion in regulations that were stifling job creation and killing any opportunity for businesses to expand. With the passage of our historic, pro-growth tax reform businesses have already started to increase wages, expand hiring, and provide new opportunities for hard working Americans. We need to continue to implement these pro-growth solutions to encourage job creation and make sure that American workers have the opportunities they need and deserve.

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

To ensure the success and solvency of Social Security, we need to allow any person to opt out of Social Security to begin developing their own private accounts. Specifically, we need to allow any worker to save their own money on a pretax basis and their employer to provide a retirement program. This will allow people to fund their own future. Any long-term solution for Social Security proposed by Congress must be voluntary and equal to or greater than the current benefit that workers receive, not change the current system for Americans 62 and older, and provide workers with individual choice and opportunities to allow these workers to diversify their assets.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Since Obamacare was signed into law, it has been a discriminatory system that picks winners, creates losers, and makes it harder for American families to afford and obtain health care. We need to address the failures of the current health care law with a deliberate, thoughtful, and responsible approach that produces a sustainable solution to fix our broken system. That is why I put forward a common sense solution with my friend in the Senate, Dr. Bill Cassidy from Louisiana. For the past two Congress’ we have introduced The World’s Greatest Healthcare Plan, a sustainable, non-discriminatory alternative to President Obama’s onerous law. It empowers all Americans to make their own healthcare decisions, save their hard-earned money in an account that is not use-it-or-lose-it, and ensures that not only single person will ever be coerced onto ObamaCare.

NATIONAL SECURITY

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

The United States should help defend Israel from attack by its enemies.

Strongly Agree

Islamic law (Sharia) should take precedence over national and state laws where there are Islamic majority communities in the U. S.

Strongly Disagree

I support sanctuary cities.

Strongly Disagree

The United States should protect its sovereignty from the United Nations.

Strongly Agree

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

It is refreshing to have a Commander in Chief who acknowledges the reality of this situation and understands the importance of defeating these dangerous terrorists. Since November 2016, ISIS has lost 98 percent of its territory. That means under President Trump’s leadership 5,570 square miles have been reclaimed and 5.3 million people have been liberated from ISIS control. It is critical that we continue this push and continue to gain ground against these radical Islamic terrorists.

EDUCATION

Tuition-free public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

People should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on "gender identity."

Disagree

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

America’s Founding Fathers recognized that passion and self-interest are permanent parts of human nature. That's why they designed a system of governance that would harness these inherent human qualities and pit them against one another through our system of checks and balances. The Founders also feared majority factions that would abuse individual rights, which is why they added to the Constitution a Bill of Rights that would secure individual rights against majorities.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

From a young age my parents taught me that the three most important things in life - God, Family, and County. Both of my grandfathers were members of the clergy so throughout my life they have inspired me with their unwavering devotion to God and their strong convictions in their faith. I was baptized in the Methodist Church and have chosen to belong and instill the values of my faith to my children. Throughout my life I have had successes and losses, moments of joy and moments of despair, however through every situation no matter how good or bad, my reliance on my faith has guided me and provided me with the fortitude and the strength necessary to pull through.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I believe in a limited government and returning power back to individuals. One of the biggest threats facing our nation, is a big, unchecked federal government. That is why I have continuously fought to reduce the size of our bloated government, cut our deficit, reduce spending levels, and lower taxes to unleash the power of the free enterprise system.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I have proudly represented the people of the 32nd Congressional District pf Texas since 2003 and prior to redistricting, represented the 5th Congressional District of Texas since 1997.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Growing up my dad always taught me the importance of working hard, engaging in your community, and making a positive impact on people’s lives. Throughout my life and my career I have worked hard to put his lessons into practice and make a difference for the people around me and the community where we live. During my time in Congress, I have always strived to help every, single person whom I have the honor to represent. Whether it was saving every single American Airlines employees' pension plan, securing funding to bolster the Lake Lewisville Dam when it was deemed the 8th most hazardous structure in the country, or saving 33 units of transitional housing for domestic violence victims - when someone brings me a problem, I work my hardest to find a solution. These are just a few examples of my work to make a difference in the lives of all North Texans. My first and foremost priority has always been to help people.
