It fails to require universal background checks; to ban assault weapons, large-capacity magazines or bump stocks; or to enact other common sense measures needed to reduce gun violence.

I fear for our democratic republic. Our country has become infested with fact-free politics and groundless anger. Deception and lying have metastasized into politics and elections at all levels. Civility has become an anachronism. In Congress, reasonably informed discourse has been supplanted by bitter recriminations and character assassination. Even the Supreme Court has become highly politicized, with certain justices disregarding time-honored principles of professional ethics and judicial conduct. Wake up America!
