QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
To save the life of the mother
ECONOMY
Redistribution of income is needed to lessen the gap between the wealthy and working classes.
Strongly Disagree
The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Strongly Agree
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
Make middle-class tax cuts permanent
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
The right to practice one’s religion free of government interference is the most fundamental tenant of our democracy. Government exists to protect this God-given right.
HEALTHCARE
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
I believe the best health care is provided when doctors and patients decide on a health care plan, not through mandates or by a government bureaucrat in Washington, D.C. I do not support federal government vaccine mandates.
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C) - Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula does not work and must be repealed and replaced to provide better care for seniors and save our tax dollars.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
A) When the U.S. disengages from the world stage, evil actors are emboldened.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
Keep Guantanamo Bay open. War criminals and hardened terrorists should not be transferred to American soil or transferred to other countries to return to the battlefield against us. We must develop a national strategy that would constrain the domestic and international travel of terrorists. This includes strengthening the vetting of refugees and improving border security and information sharing between government vetting systems.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds shall be denied to any public or private entity, such as a sanctuary city, that is not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We are a nation of immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws. Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants would be an affront to the millions of legal immigrants and to the citizens of our great country. We cannot continue to have an immigration system that rewards people who break our laws while punishing those who want to follow them. Any reforms must contribute to the American economy and enrich hard-working Americans. Part of staying competitive is making sure we are attracting the best and brightest people from around the world. That's the American tradition, and it's why we need immigration reform that reflects the needs of our employers and job creators.
VALUES
Sexual orientation and gender identity should be protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
As a Christian and husband, I firmly believe that family is the foundation of American life and will continue to work to protect and strengthen the family. I will continue to work to promote life, defend marriage, and protect our faith and freedom.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I do not support a federal takeover of elections. However, I do believe there could be minimum national standards on issues like voter ID, signature verification, the rights of election observers, and general ballot security.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Equality is a goal our nation has strived for since its inception. The Declaration of Independence, the very starting point of our nation, states that we are all created equal and that we "are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." This is our Nation's highest ideal, and the basis for our system of laws, but a test we are still trying to pass. Our country is having important and needed conversations regarding race and equality. But violence and destruction take away from justifiable anger and calls for justice. It is just as important that we all stand together in the quest for justice as it is that we all stand together and condemn violence.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A) I am a founding member of the Conservative Climate Caucus and a leader in Congress on issues like reducing emissions and addressing PFAS chemicals. I am focused on conservative policies that secure American energy independence, foster innovation, and allow the market to meet the demand for affordable clean energy – without crippling tax increases and overburdensome regulations.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
https://acu-ratings-pdfs.s3.amazonaws.com/ACU_Ratings_US-2021.pdf
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
As Fort Bragg’s Congressman, supporting our military, their families, and veterans are also among my top priorities. I sponsored legislation to increase troop pay, improve education for military children, and expand health care access and support for veterans and their caregivers.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Agree
Qualified immunity cannot be used as a blanket protection if a court determines that excessive force was used or a weapon was discharged necessarily.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Disagree
We must reject calls to “defund” or “disband” the police and instead give these agencies the tools and training they need to do their jobs and keep Americans safe. I support increased funding to address the mental health crisis in this country and support local community programs.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Rather than attack the Second Amendment, I have led efforts to address the root causes of gun violence, including improving mental health services, training law enforcement, and providing funds to harden schools.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
