QUESTIONNAIRE

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

I am in favor of necessary infrastructure on our border that maximizes the ability to control entering and exiting the United States.

Agree

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Agree

Governments should define marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman.

Neutral

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.

Disagree

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.

Agree

More restrictive gun control is needed to protect public safety.

Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Agree

Any teaching to children on sex education in public schools must include all contraceptive methods, and should not show preference to abstinence.

Disagree

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments.

Agree

Strongly Disagree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I agree with Chuck Colson that the real change in abortion politics will occur when we are able to change hearts and minds. Even a complete ban on abortion will not stop the practice. Only when individuals realize that the practice denies the Human Rights of another person, one that we had a choice whether or not to conceive, will we be able to change the Nation's attitude toward the use of abortion as a form of birth control. In terms of rape and incest, we need to more aggressively punish these crimes. In terms of health of the mother, abortion also poses risk to the health of the mother. This is a medical decision made by a doctor and patient, not an abortion clinic.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

We are all tempted to abuse power and have self interest motivating our decisions. By separating power among the three branches of government, no one individual can take control over the people, and we have remained free from despots, tyrants and dictators for 250 years.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian and believe the basis of my faith is to follow the commandments to love God with all of my heart, soul, might and mind, and to love my neighbor as myself.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I can be found on my legislative website which contains the majority of the work I have done. I have a campaign Facebook and website: vote4mary.com that also confirms my conservative credentials.

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

Improve the business climate in our State so there are more opportunities for entrepreneurs, businesses and jobs. Reducing the costs of regulations and the things that drive up the cost of energy. Building essential transportation and telecommunications infrastructure to keep our industries globally competitive.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Remove the regulatory restrictions on health insurance. Allow insurance companies to innovate many new kinds of customizable plans. Allow innovation in the way physicians, hospitals and other providers develop clinic membership plans to assure their patients have access to their services. We need more variety and ways to customize our healthcare. All healthcare expenses including insurance premiums should be fully tax deductible. Give entities that give indigent care tax benefits or reimbursements.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

Reduce mandates and regulations that impede companies' ability to grow and prosper. Focus on policies that allow people to build wealth. Keep taxes low on both corporations and individuals. I believe people need their money more than the State does. Let people keep much more of what they earn and many of the expensive government programs will be less necessary.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

Bachelor of Science, Plant Science, Crop Management, University of Idaho Farm Manager of 3000 acre Dryland Wheat Farm, 30 Years Peace Corps, Ubon, Thailand 1984-86
