Additional comment from candidate:
I’ve had one practice from my first days as an elections manager: I do not publicly tell people where I stand on political topics that could be on the ballot. Issues related to religious liberty, the right to life, and others have the potential to turn into a statewide initiative. Answering your questionnaire would require me to take a public stance on these issues. While it would be politically advantageous to do so, it is something I cannot do professionally. When voters know an election administrator's position on an issue, it taints the way they think she is doing her job. My office is responsible for checking the petitions for statewide initiatives. I have found from my 23 years running elections, it’s better to keep my positions to myself and be a non-partisan administrator. I do not publicly weigh in on issues that could appear on the ballot. I am the only candidate in this race who will keep our initiative process impartial.
