Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Free enterprise and the right to private property turn mankind's natural self-interest into the most productive economic system there is.

Strongly Agree

There should be a strict constitutional spending limit for state and local governments that would tie the rate of spending to the rate of population growth plus the rate of inflation.

Strongly Agree

Marijuana should be legalized and regulated like tobacco and alcohol.

Agree

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.

Neutral

The founders established pure democracy in the Constitution because they believed that it is the best form of government to ensure the safety and equitable treatment of all citizens.

Neutral

The Ten Commandments should not be displayed in public school buildings.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

The Founders had read history. They had many examples of men being corrupted by power. They sought to reduce that corruption by strictly limiting the power of politicians and of government. The goal, of course, was to defend our equal, individual rights to life, liberty, property and self defense. Indeed, a nation is good to the extent that it defends these rights, and evil to the extent that it leaves them undefended, or violates them.

Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.

The highest secular source of authority is the individual. All legitimate government power comes from the consent of the governed. Government has no power that the people do not have. No popular majority may vote away individual rights.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Abortion should only be illegal after 5 months gestation, and in the case of significant threat to the life of the mother. Rape victims will need to act before the 5 months are up if they want an abortion, and no taxpayer money may go to any organization that provides abortions.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

If God is goodness and morality, then I believe in God. If God is the love that exists between people, then I believe in God. If God is the wonderful, marvelous universe, nature, and all of its physical laws, then I believe in God. If God is truth, then I believe in God.

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?

No Answer

Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.

I am conservative, only in the sense that a believer in the free market, strictly limited government, and the US Constitution is a conservative. I am a fan of entrepreneurship and seek to reduce the taxes and regulatory burden on small businesses. I am concerned about the undue influence large corporations have on our state government. I support a true free market, and lower taxes, not crony capitalism. I want to reduce the size and scope of government at all levels. But I am liberal on gay marriage, abortion, the drug war, and most other social issues. Like Jesus, I am against all but the most defensive wars. So I do not fit on your one-dimensional political spectrum outlined above. I am a Libertarian, which can be thought of as socially liberal and fiscally conservative and a military non-inerventionist. "Blessed are the peacemakers."

Additional comment from candidate:

I will never vote to raise taxes. I will strongly oppose any efforts to introduce an income tax in Washington State. I will work to add lanes to I-5 and I-405, and take the money for these projects from the gas tax revenue that was planned to go to wasteful light rail and bicycle projects in the region. Gas tax money should be used exclusively on roads that cars and buses will use. But I am socially Liberal. I am a supporter of getting government out of the business of granting permission to people to get married. But I oppose forcing any church to perform marriages on gay and lesbian couples. The Unitarians and others will do this if they want it, I am sure. If you want to restrict the right to Liberty that tells us that peaceful gays and lesbians must be allowed to marry each other, then I advise you to vote for the Republican in my race. I defend the right to Liberty.
