QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Prior to conception, there is the potential for a human life. At the moment of conception, what was potential life is now, in fact, a human life. If given the opportunity to be nourished and protected, this life will grow and develop, as is the case for human life at all stages. That life deserves the same protections as fully-developed humans.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

In the event of a medically-verified diagnosis that the life of the mother is at risk.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Strongly Agree

We choose as a society to call a human life at it's earliest stage an embryo. In fact, an embryo is the result of conception, and is life.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Strongly Agree

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

The first version of the Constitution was based on "Life, liberty, and property". The first freedom is the right to own property. The right to suceed to whatever level one chooses is the lynchpin of every other right we enjoy as Americans. While government must provide minimum boundaries and guidelines for private industry, the freedom to achieve must be not just protected, but it MUST also be honored and encouraged.

What is your position on the minimum wage?

The minimum wage is intended for first-time entrants into the workforce. While every member of the workforce should be paid a fair day's pay for a fair day's work, minimum wage is a starting point, not a long-term pay level.

I support using taxpayer funds to lobby the state legislature.

Strongly Disagree

Taxpayer funds are meant to be used to serve the taxpayers, based on taxpayer guidance. Taxpayer funds definitely should not be used to lobby for or against any candidate or issue.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

1. Healthcare fraud. Particularly Medicaid fraud. If we eliminate fraud by those stealing from the system, we will be able to fully serve those who truly need assistance. 2. The general size of government. We must honestly and objectively review every government agency to ensure that only the intended services are being provided, and in the most efficient manner possible. 3. We must especially review all foreign aid for relevance and effectiveness.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The first amendment is clear: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF". The overwhelming writings of the founders of the Constitution emphasized that, while no single religion should be the official State Religion, religion itself is a key part of every aspect of life, and must be protected. Religion must not be removed from governmental affairs, in the same way it must not be removed from any other part of life.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

C.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Strongly Disagree

We should identify critical medical conditions that should be treated by government-sponsored resources, but individual medical histories should be kept private, subject to the decisions of the patient concerning what, and to whom, medical information will be shared. Statistics concerning medical care should be maintained and studied without identification of patients, but personal imformation must be protected.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

There is a benefit to doing business with China, but we must always remember that their stated goal is to be the preemminent military and economic power in the world. The United States is the only country in the world that can keep Communist China in check. Whether we like it or not, it is a responsibility that we as a nation must meet.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

It is. Israel is the only true democratic government in the volatile middle east. History proves that many of the governments located in that region of the world have declared a desire to destroy democracy, and the United States. We need a strong ally in that part of the world to monitor and deter aggression by those governments. It is in the national interest of the US to maintain a strong alliance with Israel.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Strongly Disagree

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Agree

The Department of Education should not be eliminated outright, but it should be reorganized as an advisory-only agency and a resource for state boards of education. One-size-fits-all standards at the federal level rarely work well for everyone in our diverse country. This is especially true for education. The US Department of Education should be a repository of best-practices and infomational resources. But it should not dictacte policy. And it shouldn't use funding to do so.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Agree

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Protestant Christian. As such, I believe in the inerrant accuracy of the Bible (it's our various interpretations that are flawed), salvation through repentance, and eternal life. While I strive to live Biblical principles, I recognize that I cannot do so perfectly, and am eternally grateful for God's grace and forgiveness.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Agree

I am a Christian. As such, I believe the Biblical definition of marriage is between one man and one woman. Man-made laws can be devised to resolve legal issues concerning civil unions, but, in my opinion, civil unions and marriage are two different concepts.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Disagree

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's upbringing, including their religious, health, and educational well-being.

Strongly Agree

The key words in this statement are "recognize and support", not dictate how. In recent decades, we as a society have diminished the importance of parenting. "It takes a village" has slowly morphed into "it ONLY takes a village". While the entire community can be a tremendous support in raising our children, parents, and parenting, MUST be both honored and expected.

Attempts to transition or encourage a child to transition to the opposite sex constitutes child abuse.

Agree

I find it interesting that it is a medically-accepted standard that the human brain isn't fully-developed until the age of 25, but there are some who want to force children as young as 4 to make permanent, life-altering decisions about their sexuality. We as a society have identied at least 18 years of age as the minimum standard for adulthood for virtually every aspect of accountability. Decisions concerning sexuality should, at least, follow the same criteria.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

The first, greatest priviledge of being a US citizen is the priviledge to vote. That being true, we must protect that priviledge with solid, consistent standards and policies to ensure that electing our officials is reserved for US citizens. The first basic step to do so is to confirm that the person completing a ballot is the person associated with that ballot. A valid government photo ID, readily available to every citizen, is the first step to a solid plan for election integrity.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

Regardless of shifting social values throughout human history, societies around the world have recognized the biological difference between men and women. That difference is undeniable, and I adhere to that definition.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Without question, it is a statistical fact that coal is the most reliable energy source. Coal can be mined and stored prior needing to be used. It is not dependent on the environment, such as sunlight and wind.

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Disagree

While I strongly believe in the good stewardship of our God-provided resources, man's impact on the earth's gobal environment is completely blown out of proportion so that a few individuals can enrich themselves. While man's activities can affect local enviromental quality (ie: smog in large industrial cities), the most recent, most accurate historic environmental statistics indicate that flucations in the global environment are more cyclical than man-influenced.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

I believe in conservative, commonsense policies. But during my legislative career, I have always listened to and considered all perspectives. I am unwavering in my support of the Constitution, especially the first and second amendments. I believe in our republic form of government, which by definition, means less government, not more.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

Never.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

Never.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

Protect the rights and priviledges of all who respect the rule of law. Punish and, if necessary, remove from society those who choose not to respect the rule of law.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Strongly Agree

The government should use automated-enforcement cameras to track speeding and criminal activity.

Neutral

It is a fact that cameras have been critical in identifying and catching violent criminals. They can be a useful tool, but we should not simply accept videos as proof of guilt or innocence. Ultimately, I think the use of cameras should be decided at the community level. The key term of the question is "automated-enforcement". Digital images can be a useful tool in law-enforcement, but guilt or innocence must not be decided strictly from automation. Due process must be adhered to.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

The right to keep and bear arms is key to ensuring government cannot completely dictate to "we the people". Restrictions to these rights must be decided on an individual basis, and must be adjudicated in a court of law, following established due process procedures. It is also reasonable to set minimal age standards for gun-ownership.
