QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Abortion, defined as the systematic and intentional killing of a human pre-born child, should never be allowed. Medical procedures performed to save the life of the mother that result in the indirect and unintended death of the child, such as the removal of a portion of the Fallopian tube during an ectopic pregnancy, are the only ones that should be allowed.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

The Ten Commandments should not be displayed in public school buildings or court houses.

Strongly Disagree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

It means simply that the state shall not establish an official state religion. Otherwise, religion and religious practice should not only be allowed, it should be encouraged as the primary means by which the virtue of the citizenry shall be maintained in order to allow our nation to survive and flourish.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

EDUCATION

The federal government should mandate standards and requirements (such as Common Core) for local schools.

Strongly Disagree

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Catholic Christian. My faith informs everything I do. I believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God. I believe in the importance and power of prayer. I believe God has written a law on the human heart, the natural law, by which we know right from wrong. I believe this law and knowledge, which is accessible to all people, is the basis on which laws should be made.

ABOUT YOU

I voted in these primaries and general elections:

2012 Republican Primary, 2012 General Election, 2014 Republican Primary, 2014 General Election, 2016 Republican Primary, 2016 General Election, 2018 Republican Primary, 2018 General Election

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I'm the founder and president of a county right to life organization, Madison County, OH Right to Life. While I've not held public office before, I've published numerous opinion pieces in local newspapers expressing my policy views. This required me to take a public stand about often controversial issues in a way that could potentially alienate me from friends, relatives, and those with whom I do business as a financial advisor in a small town. I believe it's this type of candor and courage that is needed in all levels of politics and public service today. Some of these topics include: defending the pro-life position, arguing for natural marriage and against policies that disincentive marriage, arguing against the Common Core national education standards, among many others.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I'm running for the State Board of Education. Rather than technical knowledge, a good candidate would benefit from a grounding in philosophical principles on the reason for education as well as real world application. I believe there are two primary purposes of education: 1.) preparing to enter society as both a productive member and engaged citizen; and 2.) cultivating an authentic understanding of the good, the true, and the beautiful. As it relates to the first, we clearly have a career- and life-readiness crisis among our youth today. As a business person and professional financial advisor, I understand the 21st century economy and what it takes to succeed. Secondly, we have an epidemic of despair among our youth today. A strong education consists not only in developing technical skills, but studying the classical works of the western cannon. I studied these works as an English lit major and will fight for them to continue to be taught in our schools.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I strongly oppose the adoption of Common Core educational standards and will fight for them to be repealed in Ohio. I will fight for religious liberty, parental rights in education, and for godly principles to be taught in our schools.

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes
