ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

On a state level, we have taken steps to increase transparency and helped address Texans property taxes. The Property Tax Relief legislation passed during my time in the House will save homeowners thousands over the lifetime of their home. While these recent enacted pieces of legislation were positive steps, we need to continue to seek more transparency in the system and address Texans property taxes. With the record of inflation we've seen in the country over the passed year, and home values on the rise at record levels, the Legislature needs to do everything it can, like increasing the Homestead Exemption from $25,000 to $40,000 during the 3rd Special Session, to relieve Texans property taxes to avoid taxing people out of their homes.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

During my first three terms in the Texas House, this most recent session as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I have voted to pass a balanced budget. In addition to passing a balanced budget every session I've been in the Texas House, I have worked to add billions of dollars to the rainy day fund over my tenure, and this passed session as a member of the Texas House Appropriations Committee, oversaw Texas doubling the amount of appropriations for border security operations to address the humanitarian crisis at our border. During the 87th Legislative Session I co-sponsored SB 1336 by Senator Hancock which caps the growth of state appropriations to the population plus inflation figures for the biennium. My conservative budgeting approach, which my voting record backs up, will continue to be imperative as we navigate outside pressures facing the Texas economy.

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

None, during the 87th Legislative Session I Coauthored House Bill 1239 which prohibits any elected official from having the authority to close a house of worship. Additionally, I Coauthored and voted for House Bill 525, which establishes religious organizations as "essential" in state law. Adding further protections for the right to worship in an emergency or disaster. Finally, I was a Cosponsor on SJR 27 which gave Texas voters the opportunity to strengthen religious freedom in the state by amending the state Constitution to include a ban on local officials closing houses of worship. Voters overwhelmingly approved this proposition this past November


HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

Maintain strong military and armed forces leadership. Remain the leader of the free world. One Nation Under God.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Any law abiding citizen seeking to enter United States and become a productive member of our society should be allowed to enter our country legally. In my first two sessions, I have voted each time to dedicate $800 million to border security. The rampant crime, from drug smuggling to human sex trafficking, that takes place along our border via illegal immigration is neither compassionate or in the best interest of public safety. As a state legislator, I cannot make immigration reforms for who is allowed to immigrate to our country, that is the role of a federal representative, what I can do, and pledge to continue doing, is dedicating the proper resources to our state law enforcement agencies to ensure they can continue to protect our southern border. Keeping the crime and violence out of our great state.

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

During the 2nd called Special Session of the 87th Legislature, I Cosponsored and voted for Senate Bill 1, The Texas Election Integrity Act. SB 1 ensures that every Texan can trust the outcome of every election in the Lone Star State. It increases transparency and ensures the voting rules are uniform in every county across the state, making it easy to vote and hard to cheat. Establishes Uniform Statewide Voting Hours. Strengthens Verification of Mail-In Ballots. Expands Hours for Early Voting. Ensures no election machine is connected to the internet, which increases security.

Racism exists in America. It is up to parents or other family members and life mentors to teach children and young adults that all people are precious and valuable in the eyes of God, our creator. 1 Corinthians 12:13 “For we were all baptized by one spirit”. 1 John 2:11 “But anyone who hates a brother or a sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness.” 1 Samuel 16:7 “For the Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

My belief is that the role of government is what the Founders laid out in the Preamble of the US Constitution. "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve in the Texas Legislature outside of being a husband and father. I appreciate the opportunity to serve and look forward to making a lasting impact in the coming session.


CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

The 2nd Amendment guarantees our right to keep and bear arms. That said, I do support restrictions against persons who have violated their social contract with society, such as violent criminals, those found mentally ill by a court of law, and felons. During the 87th Legislative Session I authored House Bill 2622, the Texas 2nd Amendment Sanctuary State Act, which will prohibit state resources from enforcing any new Federal gun control mandates in the State. I also voted for House Bill 1911 during the 87th Legislative Session which provides for the Permitless Carry of firearms in Texas.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
