QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
I oppose using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion services. Washington taxpayers have already paid for more than 40,000 abortion pills purchased through the state prison pharmacy. Taxpayers have also had to cover the cost of disposing of expired pills and purchasing replacements. Additionally, the state budget includes funding to help women from other states travel to Washington for abortion services. I believe taxpayer dollars should not be used to subsidize abortion services.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
I oppose elective abortion. Exceptions should be limited to medical circumstances such as a nonviable pregnancy, including an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
I believe every human life has inherent dignity and value, from conception until natural death. Government has a responsibility to protect the most vulnerable, including unborn children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Our laws should uphold the sanctity of life and recognize that every person deserves compassion, dignity, and protection.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Strongly Agree
I believe human life begins at conception, and destroying an embryo is ending the life of an unborn child.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Strongly Agree
Federal laws restricting the interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs should be taken seriously, not set aside through executive interpretation. If the law needs to be changed, Congress should do so openly and through the legislative process. Protecting unborn life, upholding the rule of law, and holding government accountable should go hand in hand.
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
The minimum wage is a perpetual motion machine. We have the highest minimum wage in the country, largley because it is linked to the consumer price index (CPI). An increase in the minimum wage causes and increase in the CPI.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Free enterprise and private property rights are essential to a productive economy. Our system rewards hard work, risk-taking, and innovation. Immigrants like Elon Musk have built successful businesses because America offers the opportunity to reap the rewards of their efforts. When government takes too much of what people earn, it discourages investment, innovation, and job creation. If you cannot keep the fruits of your labor, what incentive is there to work harder or take risks
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
I support zero-based budgeting, reviewing 25% of the state budget every biennium to identify waste and eliminate ineffective programs. I also want to promote the Productivity Board, which rewards state employees for finding ways to save taxpayer money. Finally, collective bargaining must be more transparent. Taxpayers deserve to know what is being negotiated on their behalf and what those agreements will cost.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
To me, separation of church and state means keeping government out of religion, not keeping religion out of government. The First Amendment protects religious freedom, not freedom from religion. People of faith have the same right as anyone else to express their beliefs and bring their values into public debate. Government should neither establish a state religion nor restrict the free exercise of faith.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Religious freedom means little if government can force people to violate their deeply held beliefs. No one should have to choose between their faith and their livelihood. While businesses must follow laws protecting customers from unlawful discrimination, government should allow reasonable accommodations rather than compel people to participate in activities that violate their conscience.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Neutral
We need reliable data on common, recurring, and high-cost illnesses to make informed decisions about health care policy and high-risk pool coverage. Separating certain high-risk conditions into a publicly subsidized pool could help spread costs more fairly and reduce insurance costs for other patients. Any data collection must protect patient privacy and ensure medical information is used responsibly.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious threats to U.S. national security through military expansion, cyberattacks, intellectual property theft, and unfair economic practices. We must protect critical infrastructure, secure sensitive technology, defend American businesses and workers, and strengthen our military. America must hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable and safeguard our national security, economic prosperity, and freedom.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes, Israel is an important U.S. ally in the Middle East. Our partnership strengthens regional security, supports intelligence sharing, and helps counter threats from terrorism and hostile regimes. Maintaining this relationship advances American national security interests and helps promote stability in a strategically important region.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
I am a first-generation American. Proponents of sanctuary policies want to conflate legal immigration with illegal immigration. I oppose sanctuary policies that restrict cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Washington has over 700 undocumented criminal offenders in state prisons, with more in local jails, at a reported cost exceeding $70,000 per person annually. If federal authorities will take custody of eligible offenders, the state should cooperate.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and returning control to states, local school boards, parents, and communities. Those closest to students understand their needs better than federal bureaucrats. Local control allows schools to reflect community values, gives parents a stronger voice, and reduces federal red tape. Education funding should support students, while states and local communities decide how best to deliver a quality education.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Strongly Agree
Foreign funding can create opportunities to influence curriculum, research, and campus policies. We must protect academic independence, national security, and our children’s education from foreign government interference. Our schools and universities should be accountable to American families and communities, not foreign powers.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
I strongly support parents’ rights to direct their children’s health care and education. I introduced legislation to provide property tax relief for private school and homeschool families, recognizing they also contribute to education levies. I also support the Education Freedom Tax Credit, allowing individuals to claim up to $1,700 in federal tax credits for donations to scholarship-granting organizations. I oppose efforts to block this opportunity simply because families may choose homeschool
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Strongly Agree
Children deserve protection, not pressure to make life-altering decisions about their sex and identity before they are mature enough to understand the consequences. I believe attempts to socially or medically transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse. Parents must have a meaningful role in their children's upbringing and health care, and protecting children’s long-term physical and emotional well-being must come first.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
I believe marriage is a sacred institution rooted in the union of one man and one woman. This traditional understanding reflects my faith and the importance of family as the foundation of society. Government should respect the role of faith and tradition in our communities rather than assume it can redefine a sacred institution. We must protect religious freedom and the right of people to live according to their beliefs.
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My Catholic faith is central to my life and guides my decisions. As Chair of the Catholic Caucus, I host a Catholic Mass at the Capitol every week. I take my faith seriously and believe my responsibility as a legislator is to put God first, my district second, and my personal preferences last. My faith shapes my values, my commitment to protecting life, and my desire to serve others with integrity.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Election integrity starts with verifying that voters are eligible before ballots are cast. I support requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote and strengthening safeguards against improper registrations through Motor Voter. I also support repealing same-day voter registration. Election officials need adequate time to verify a voter's identity, citizenship, and residence before a ballot is cast. We must make voting accessible while ensuring our elections are secure and trustworthy.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
I oppose race-based reparations. No one alive today was responsible for the institution of slavery, and people should not be held financially responsible for the actions of others based on their race. Government policy should treat people equally under the law, regardless of skin color. We should focus on equal opportunity, individual responsibility, and policies that help Americans succeed based on their effort and ability, not their race.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
I believe biological sex matters when it comes to fairness, privacy, and safety. I have introduced multiple bills to protect women’s sports and preserve sex-separated private spaces, including bathrooms, locker rooms, shelters, and prisons. Women and girls deserve a level playing field and privacy in intimate settings. Protecting these rights should not require sacrificing the dignity or safety of others.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Strongly Disagree
I believe the science on climate change is far from settled. Climate patterns develop over long periods, yet weather events are often used to support claims about long-term climate trends. Many climate predictions have failed to materialize as projected. Two atmospheric physicists recently testified before Congress that reducing CO2 could reduce agricultural productivity. Historical ice core data also show that periods of higher CO2 have coincided with increased plant growth.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Hydropower, nuclear energy, and natural gas provide reliable electricity to meet growing demand. Hydropower offers dependable, low-emission power; nuclear provides consistent, around-the-clock electricity; and natural gas supplies flexible generation
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
I believe in limited government, lower taxes, individual liberty, strong families, religious freedom, public safety, secure borders, and a strong national defense. Government should protect our constitutional rights, respect parents and local communities, spend taxpayer money responsibly, and allow individuals the freedom to work hard, build businesses, and keep the rewards of their efforts.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
NO
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
The primary goal of the criminal justice system is to protect the public by keeping dangerous criminals off the streets. Criminals must be held accountable for their actions, victims deserve justice, and law-abiding citizens deserve to feel safe in their communities. Rehabilitation has a role for those who can be successfully reintegrated into society, but public safety must always come first.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
Government has a responsibility to protect children from online sexual exploitation. We must hold predators accountable, strengthen protections against grooming and trafficking, and ensure law enforcement has the tools to investigate and prosecute offenders. Parents should have resources to monitor online activity and protect their children. Safeguarding children must be a priority while respecting constitutional rights and personal privacy.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
America must be governed by the U.S. Constitution and laws that protect the equal rights and freedoms of every citizen. No religious legal code, including Sharia law, should supersede our Constitution or be incorporated as a separate system of government authority. Everyone has the right to practice their faith, but our courts must apply the same constitutional protections and civil laws to everyone, regardless of religion.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We need stronger reporting to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to ensure firearms are not sold to people legally prohibited from owning them, including convicted felons, individuals disqualified by mental health adjudications, and those dishonorably discharged from the military. Law-abiding citizens should not face unnecessary restrictions on purchasing firearms, ammunition, or magazines. Don't infringe on the rights of gun owners.
