QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

I am a former Congressional staff person, and I am on record, as of that time, as a supporter of the Hyde Amendment and its exceptions of rape, incest and life of the mother.

Chemical abortion drugs should meet essential safety standards (such as in-person consultation with a medical doctor) and require reporting to gather evidence on reactions and outcomes.

Strongly Agree

I would refer you to the law in North Carolina that deals with mifepristone, etc.; however, as I understand it, some of the issues are being litigated in federal court. If I am not mistaken, the case involves the preemption issue as it relates to the federal FDA and the North Carolina provisions. In the interests of the health of the mother and baby, I feel safer having medical doctors involved, and we need to know about reactions, etc., so that we can help protect health and safety.

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Choose not to answer

I did not answer because I support the aid provided by Hospice and other organizations when a person is in the process of dying. Euthanasia and suicide are different issues.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Choose not to answer

I stated earlier that I am on record as a supporter of the Hyde Amendment language.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Arbitrary and capricious minimum wage mandates without cost/benefit analyses will cause some businesses to close and cut back on hours. This will hurt those in entry-level jobs who are trying to help build a work history for advancement.

Should environmental and social issues, like ESG (environmental, social, and governance) ratings, be used as criteria in deciding where to invest public monies?

No

I am on record as voting against using leftist policies to dictate how investments are made in North Carolina.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

An example would be when a fire destroys the structure of the building, and it would be likely that the structure could fall and injure or kill someone.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

This answer relates to the court cases recently decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Should religious schools which accept state funds be allowed to only admit families and students who agree to adhere to their statement of faith?

Yes

I voted for Opportunity Scholarships in North Carolina, and I support our needs-based scholarships for students who attend private colleges and universities.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

I do not support the hundreds of billions of dollars of cuts to Medicare that were included in Obamacare.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

When I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, the government required some vaccinations. As for the COVID-19 situation, I did not and do not support vaccine passports, etc., and I support the integrity of the doctor/patient relationship.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

My hope is that China will move away from communism and become and ally of the United States.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Israel is a great and important ally for the people of the United States of America. Israel stands as a beacon of freedom and democracy in the Middle East and around the world.

EDUCATION

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child through programs which protect parents' freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Strongly Agree

I voted for Opportunity Scholarships, and I support our needs-based scholarships for students who attend private colleges and universities.

VALUES

Taxpayer funds should be used to provide gender transition services.

Strongly Disagree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent unless an emergency situation arises risking immediate death.

Strongly Agree

This question is answered assuming that by "child" the question is referring to someone who is not emancipated or able to operate as a legally independent adult.

Children are the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from abuse, including gender ideology, grooming, and bodily mutilation.

Strongly Agree

Children, senior citizens and many others are also vulnerable.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Choose not to answer

The government changed the definition of marriage when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on the issue. God is in control of the situation, and He has not facilitated the overturning of the U.S. Supreme Court decision. I voted for traditional marriage because I did not want to encourage equal protection cases of, for example, adults claiming the right to marry minors/underage children. The U.S. Supreme Court is part of the federal government.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a saved Christian.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

Voting absentee by mail ballot should be limited to those meeting at least one of the following criteria: 1) 65 years of age or older on Election Day, 2) sick or disabled, 3) expecting to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day, or 4) confirmed to be absent from the county of registration during voting.

Choose not to answer

I am a strong supporter of election integrity, and I voted for voter IDs in North Carolina. I chose not to answer because the statement did not specify that absentee ballots should be restricted to request-required ballots and that eligible voters should not receive mail-in ballots by default. The criteria in the statement did not provide enough information regarding the need for photo IDs and a "request-required" statement.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

There are some extremists around the world who want to destroy the United States of America. Those extremists create a threat to domestic security.

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

I voted not to support CRT.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

I voted to protect women's sports.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? (Select all that apply) A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost. C) Stricter environmental laws undermine U.S. energy independence and deter development of reliable electricity sources. D) Climate change is real and requires urgent policy action.

Unreasonable environmental laws without serious analyses regarding costs and benefits will cost jobs, hurt the economy, deter the development of reliable energy sources, and undermine our goal of energy security.

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

According to the U.S. Constitution, the general purpose of government is to establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

My conservatism and my strict constructionist judicial philosophy lead some to call me "very conservative."

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

I support redirecting funds from police departments to community programs.

Strongly Disagree

I do not support defunding the honorable men and women of law enforcement.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I am a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights for law-abiding citizens. We already have voluminous state and federal laws regarding gun ownership in place. For example, I support not allowing violent felons to legally be in possession of or to use firearms when carrying out other crimes, and this is current law.
