QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

However, as a former Congressional staff person, I endorsed and still support the Hyde Amendment provisions. I voted to end partial-birth abortions.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

As a former Congressional staff person, I endorsed and still support the Hyde Amendment provisions. I voted to end partial-birth abortions.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Strongly Agree

However, as a former Congressional staff person, I endorsed and still support the Hyde Amendment provisions. I voted to end partial-birth abortions.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Strongly Agree

There are ongoing ethical issues, and I support the position of North Carolina Right to Life regarding this issue.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Strongly Agree

We are analyzing the provisions of the federal statute as they would relate to the Hyde Amendment exceptions, but I understand the question to be referring to stopping attempts to facilitate abortion on demand regardless of the laws in place. I voted to end partial-birth abortions.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Constitutional jurisprudence has a long history in the United States. After studying the Bill of Rights, First Amendment jurisprudence, and the North Carolina Constitution in depth, I do not want local, state, or federal action to try to force me and others to ignore our strong history of Judeo-Christian values.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Strongly Disagree

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

The relationship is important because Israel is an important ally for the United States.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

Focusing on patient-centered, market-based alternatives and other policies that empower individuals and associations, for example, will help improve healthcare affordability and quality in the United States as we continue to care for active military members, veterans with service-connected disabilities, others with disabilities, other public servants, and senior citizens, etc.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Strongly Disagree

A government's data should not be the determining factor when medical care is needed to help our citizens.

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

I earned the minimum wage in various jobs. I viewed these jobs as positions to gain experience so that I could advance to better jobs and economic security. I want all who are able to earn more than a government-mandated minimum wage.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

1. I voted to help eliminate Medicaid waste, fraud, and abuse. I serve at the state level. 2. I filed a bill to modify the internal auditing statutes to help end waste, fraud, and abuse in state government, including the University of North Carolina System. The bill became law. 3. I voted to crack down on illegal immigration/migration. 4. I voted to cut taxes by billions of dollars. 5. I support empowering the state auditor to have more authority to help us end waste, fraud, and abuse.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Strongly Disagree

I voted to end "sanctuary" cities.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Agree

Constitutionally, I believe that the states and local communities should have more control of education policies. In my opinion, this could improve education, school choice, and student learning, in general. There are details to be addressed, but I believe this is, constitutionally, the right decision.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Strongly Agree

We should prevent hostile nations from taking control of U.S. educational systems.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

The goal of the criminal justice system should be to prosecute and deter criminals, protect and restore innocent victims, strengthen public safety, end prosecutorial weaponization, respect substantive and procedural due process and other constitutional provisions, and create peace of mind for the citizenry in a fair, conservative, and efficient manner.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Strongly Agree

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Strongly Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

As examples, illegal aliens, those who renounce their U.S. citizenships, and violent felons are not allowed under current federal law to legally purchase, own, or possess firearms in the United States. There are other laws already in the statutes that apply to those who are not able to legally purchase, own, or possess firearms; for example, fugitives from justice and those adjudicated as "mental defective" are not allowed to legally own or possess firearms in the United States.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Strongly Agree

Not all children have parents who are present and actively involved, and my answer assumes that parents or legal guardians are making common-sense decisions for children that do not harm the children's health and/or educational well-being. Children should not be forced by parents or guardians to physically or socially transition to the opposite sex.

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Strongly Agree

Legally, I assume "child" in the statement refers to those below 18. As I understand it, some below 18 can be legally emancipated.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Agree

I voted to uphold God-ordained marriage. We had a polygamy sect in North Carolina at about the time of the vote, and I did not support allowing polygamists, for example, to change the definition of traditional marriage. However, court rulings, as I understand it, have since gone against my vote to uphold traditional and God-ordained marriage.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Strongly Disagree

I understand the question to be referring to the "lottery" in North Carolina since the lottery is, in essence, allowed by state law. I was not in office when the lottery became legal in North Carolina. I do not support expansion of the lottery, and I do not "play" the lottery. The lottery should be continually audited, and oversight should remain vigorous if the lottery continues to be legal.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a saved Christian.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

There are certain provisional situations that are allowed under the law. For example, if a person's ID is lost while the person is in the hospital and the person has not had time to replace the ID before voting, a provisional ballot is allowed for time to determine the facts. This is a situational example when a provisional ballot might be allowed, under current law, so as not to disenfranchise a legal voter and citizen.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Agree

I voted to protect women's sports and privacy.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Strongly Disagree

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Nuclear, natural gas, coal, and oil, for example, are reliable. People can freely choose other options if they desire. Unfair "Green New Deal" mandates by governments will lead to higher energy prices, less reliability, and less energy security.
