14. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
Apart from redemption, the nature of man is evil. Our Founding Fathers recognized this truth and its relationship with political power. They had the wisdom to know that pure power is desired by man and once acquired it corrupts. This premise is why we have a clear system of checks and balances within the different branches. The Constitution sets areas of authority for the three branches and sets up safeguards so that one branch may not overextend its influence into other domains.
15. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.
Passing a Balanced Budget Amendment would be a great step towards restoring fiscal sanity in Washington and renewing American prosperity. The spending mentality in Washington must be broken so we can restore our nation. Repealing the 16th Amendment, abolishing the IRS and passing the FairTax is another issue I consider of great importance. Now, more than ever, is the time the people can rise up and demand a change in our tax code so we stop punishing people for success. Repealing and replacing Obamacare must be a priority. Obamacare represents a massive expansion of the federal government. Obamacare is one of the most economically devastating and unconstitutional pieces of legislation to come out of Washington and it must be repealed and replaced in order to restore economic stability to our nation.
16. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?
No, no exception.
17. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
God, Constitution, Voters, Congress, Supreme Court
18. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe in the triune God; the sinfulness of man; the substitutionary and redemptive death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ; and the inerrant Word of God. Becoming aware of my personal sin and the need for salvation, I trusted Christ as my Lord and Savior at age 13. I have been a pastor of SBC churches for over 25 years. I have also been deeply involved in fighting for our country through speaking, conservative talk radio, writing, etc., most of my adult life. I believe Christians are to expand the Kingdom of God and permeate every aspect of our culture as 'salt and light,' in a spirit of love and grace through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. I believe our priorities should be God, family, others. It is impossible to separate or compartmentalize Christian values from my everyday life...it influences everything I do. My desire is to live in fellowship with the Lord. Daily prayer and Bible study, along with faith & obedience to His Word are essential disciplines.
