What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Inherent in the nature of all people is the quest for power, fueled by pride and greed. America's founders understood the premise that "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Government powers must be limited and separated in order to prevent tyranny by those in control.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I believe He is the Son of God, and God the Son. He came to this earth to die on the cross as payment for the sins of the world. He was resurrected to life so that those who believe may have eternal life with Him. My worldview is based on the Gospel and the Bible, and so are my political views, which is why I am and always have been a conservative. I am socially conservative:The Bible teaches that humans are created in God's image, and He is the one who determines life and death. And so I am pro-life, from the womb to end-of-life care. We are to love our neighbors as ourselves - that is why I believe we need better social welfare programs that teach and enable those struggling in poverty to rise above and make better lives for themselves. I am fiscally conversative as well. Our Constitution is the rule of law. Our country works best when its citizens are free to live, worship, work, and pursue happiness, not burdened by heavy taxes and regulations.
Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
Very Conservative
Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
I ran for Congress in 2014 with this same platform. My work in the Jacksonville area has always been fiscally and socially conservative, whether it was trying to improve the lives of those living in poverty, serving through my church (First Baptist Jacksonville), making affordable, quality childcare available for working families, or creating curriculum through UNF. There I developed curriculum for UNF's Small Business Resource Center. This program established high-quality childcare businesses in low-income areas of Northeast Florida, empowering the community economically.
