OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Only in the event that there is a risk to the mother’s life.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

The state constitution should limit the growth of spending to the rate of population growth plus the rate of inflation.

Strongly Agree

Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

Strongly Agree

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

By keeping our economic climate favorable to business, both large and small. Many states have taxed business out of their states and those businesses have moved to states like Texas. Less government overreach and less government red tape is always the answer to creating a positive job environment.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

The government should set a fair playing field with few regulations and then let the free market determine business growth. Part of what makes America great is our innovative and entrepreneurial spirit - let’s get government out of the way and let Americans succeed.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

No Answer

NATIONAL SECURITY

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

Islamic law (Sharia) should take precedence over national and state laws where there are Islamic majority communities in the U. S.

Strongly Disagree

I support sanctuary cities.

Strongly Disagree

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

EDUCATION

Tuition-free public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

Any teaching to children on sex education in public schools must include all contraceptive methods, and should not show preference to abstinence.

Strongly Disagree

People should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on "gender identity."

Strongly Disagree

Parents should be the primary authority in decisions affecting their minor children.

Strongly Agree

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

In drafting a new constitution after the Articles of Confederation, the framers created a government that first understood natural rights are created by God and not by the government. It was vital to create a structure that promoted consent of the governed as a founding principle but acknowledged the natural state of man was volatile and rife with conflict. Separating and defining the roles and powers of the government provided appropriate checks and balances to mitigate concentration of power.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Raised Catholic, married in the Catholic church and raise my two boys in the Catholic church. My values are rooted in my faith and my family teachings.

Very Conservative

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

As Texas Land Commissioner, we have reduced the size of the agency by 15%, saving taxpayer dollars while also providing over $4 Billion for public schools. I run the most efficient department in the state and the only agency to bring in more money than it spends. I have led the effort to revitalize the Alamo complex. I have transformed the way the GLO interacts with our veterans; helping more veterans gain access to the services they need. I have been busy at the GLO doing the work of the people and doing it in a conservative way. We are doing what makes sense and saving dollars for the taxpayers of Texas. The GLO has been a government office that works for the people during my first term. By reducing the size of government, we are increasing the individual freedom of our residents. We are doing our part at the GLO. It has been the three most conservative years in GLO history.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am proud of my record as Commissioner of the General Land Office. We have run the most conservative and efficient agency in the state. I have been able to accomplish a great deal in just three years and I look forward to four more years of doing the work of the people.
