OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Neutral

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I have personal reasons for opposing abortion: my wife was adopted at birth. I would not completely outlaw abortions even if Row v Wade were reversed. Surgical abortion legal with requirement for informed consent/consent of parents, medical standards of outpatient surgical clinic, waiting period. "Plan B" type early chemical abortion legal. Illegal: * when fetus would be viable outside womb * partial birth abortion/dismemberment of fetus

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Tax incentives are, in essence, government spending and they distort economic decisions. I'd eliminate such things as TDD, TIF, NID and many tax credits.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Disagree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The State neither endorses not condemns the peaceful exercise of religious beliefs that do not harm others. The State does not favor one religion over another, nor does it restrict religious practices that do not harm persons or property.

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Reduce state regulation: Promote competition by eliminating Certificate of Need requirements for new facilities. Eliminate restrictions on medical professional licensing across state lines Eliminate restrictions on insurance competition across state lines Encourage public price posting by medical facilities Nationally, drug certification needs to be accelerated, medical school limits lifted,

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Agree

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Disagree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Disagree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Peaceful people. The world is dangerous, so we need to know who is entering the country. However, true refugees should be welcomed, as well as people who can provide skills and/or labor needed in various industries.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Neutral

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am currently unaffiliated. My personal values are based on Commandments 4-10, the Golden Rule, and the teachings of Jesus as reported in the Gospels (not necessarily as interpreted/applied by Paul).

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

No Answer

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

As a Libertarian, I do not fit within the left/right spectrum. I look at issues from the standpoint of the Golden Rule - I oppose coercion. You do not attempt to force your values or beliefs on anyone else, and you have the right to resist others' attempts to force their values or beliefs upon you. I oppose laws restricting firearms ownership as well as laws that imprison people for actions that directly harm only themselves, such as recreational drug use. Using these principles, I fall on the liberal side of some issues and the conservative side on others.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

Education in economics, political science, management, agriculture including MBA Extensive experience in management as USAF officer Experience in accounting, entrepreneurship & tourism as small business owner Civic involvement in local, statewide and national organizations Knowledge of agricultural issues as small farm owner/resident

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No, nor have I been accused.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I am a retired USAF officer, with 21 years active service. My late wife of 43 years and I ran a bed & breakfast for 28 years on our 80-acre property SE of Warrensburg, which I now manage for wildlife. I'm a life member of the NRA and the state/national skeet shooting associations. Other memberships include American Legion, Elks, Western Missouri Shooters' Alliance

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Neutral

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

Yes

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Very few: possession by those convicted of violent acts such as assault, murder, armed robbery, etc., or negligent use of firearms resulting in injury.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Agree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

1. Criminal justice reform: end qualified immunity, end no-knock raids, eliminate victimless crimes, stop policing for profit (excessive fines and court costs). Require documentation of police interactions via body cameras. Require independent review of police misconduct claims. Decriminalize recreational drug use that empowers criminal gangs' black market operations. More people are killed by enforcement than by drugs. 2. Reform economic incentive programs: government should not pick winners and losers or assist new businesses in competition with those who had no such assistance. Require true public vote on each proposed item. 3. Election reform: Propose ranked choice voting to ensure the winner has majority approval; reduce barriers to alternative party ballot access

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Yes. If people believe they are treated unfairly as to race, it doesn't matter whether it's true; perception is reality to them, especially if they have anecdotal evidence such as disparate traffic stop rates & police shootings. The riots prove that. We need criminal justice reform: eliminate victimless crimes, qualified immunity, no-knock raids, policing for profit (excessive fines and costs); require police accountability, body cams, independent review of actions.
