Join me in prayer for our country.
I recently asked our readers to tell us what issues were on their hearts to pray about for our country. Among the concerns that rose to the top were abortion, the decline of the family, indoctrination of children into LGBTQ ideology, attacks on religious liberty, the border crisis, and Critical Race Theory in schools.
In addition, I was impressed and grateful that a common issue weighing on our respondents’ hearts is the need for revival in the church and a return to God in our country.
On this National Day of Prayer, please join me in lifting all these issues up to our mighty God. Remember that as we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us! (James 4:8)
Sovereign Lord,
We praise you for being merciful, gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. (Exodus 34:6).
You displayed your character through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for our sins. We give thanks that although we were once dead in our sins, you made us alive with Christ by grace through faith in Him! (Ephesians 2:4-5, 8)
As new creations, you have told us to abhor what is evil, and hold fast to what is good. (Romans 12:9) Today, we confess our sins and the sins of our nation, repent for any participation in evil, and plead for your mercy on our land.
For our political leaders—we pray for their salvation, or their growth in Christ! May they not resist your plan and purposes, but seek your wisdom. Thank you for establishing government and giving our leaders the chance to do good.
For the church—let
us be found faithful, “standing firm in one spirit, with one
mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,
and
not frightened in anything by [our] opponents.” (Philippians 1:27-28) Thank you
for strong churches and pastors who equip your flock to remain faithful to you
in our present culture.
For our families—help us not conform to the distortion of your design for family. Let our nation see the folly of disregarding this bedrock of a stable society. Thank you for being our loving Heavenly Father.
For our children—protect them from policies that weaken their parents’ authority and from teaching that leads them astray. Thank you for awakening many parents. Give them wisdom and courage as they raise their children to discern falsehoods and walk in Your truth.
For the lost—Lord, send more laborers into your harvest! Thank you for the revival we’ve seen this year! Fill us with boldness to continue speaking your word while your Spirit convicts people’s hearts.
For religious liberty—amidst attacks, thank you for the freedom we still enjoy. Help us to stand with courage in faithfulness to Christ and stand with our brothers and sisters who are pressured to compromise their faith.
For the sin of abortion—thank you for finally bringing Roe v. Wade to an end, and for all the lives saved as a result! But we are grieved at states that are expanding this evil practice. Raise up more warriors in the political, legal, and ministry arenas to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. (Proverbs 31:8)
For our border and national security—give our officials wisdom and integrity to deal with the crisis at our own border and threats around the world. Thank you for being the Sovereign King of the nations.
For upcoming elections—We pray for honest elections, and for more Christians to vote according to biblical principles. Let godly leaders be elected who are committed to you in every area of their life.
Lord, we deeply desire to see our nation return to you and uphold righteousness. So today, let that begin with each one of us. Like David prayed, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me…Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” (Psalm 51:10,12)
Thank you for your faithfulness and steadfast love. Be exalted in your church, and in our nation.
In Jesus’ great name, Amen.
