Reasons for Praise and Prayer

If you haven’t yet seen the results of last year’s ballot measures, now is a great time to review them and to see all of the reasons we have for praise and all of the opportunities we have for prayer this year.

In the 2024 general election, iVoterGuide covered 45 ballot measures in 22 states.

If we group the results into four categories—voter integrity and voting systems, the right to life, marijuana and psychedelics, and education—we can take an easier look at the results (look for a check mark to indicate a successful conservative win).

VOTER INTEGRITY AND VOTING SYSTEMS

Voters approved constitutional amendments designed to make it clear that only American citizens can vote in elections in all eight states where they appeared on the ballot.

Voter Integrity

Voting Systems

Ten ballot measures related to electoral systems were on the ballot in 2024. Nine of the ballot measures aimed to change existing electoral systems, and voters rejected each proposal.

Voters rejected ballot measures to enact ranked-choice voting and other electoral system changes in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, and Oregon, as well as in Montana and South Dakota.  Alaska’s Ballot Measure 2 to Repeal Ranked-Choice voting (implemented in 2022) failed after going into a recount.  (Another reminder that every vote makes a difference!)

Prayer

Lord God, we come before You in awe wonder at the greatness of Your power  to move upon America’s voters to protect our National sovereignty  and the Constitutional privilege of uncompromised elections and voting systems.

"From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands." Acts 17:26

RIGHT TO LIFE

On November 5, 2024, voters decided on 11 abortion-related ballot measures—the most on record for a single year.  Sadly, only three states rejected measures that would have the effect of making abortion on demand constitutional.

Prayer

Oh God, when will we as a Nation turn from our wicked ways?  Forgive us. We have allowed those whom You fearfully and wonderfully knit together in their mother’s womb to have their life snatched away before their first breath.  Only You have authority to number their days. Turn the hearts of fathers and mothers towards their pre-birth children, give these parents new life and a new heart through your Son Jesus, so they can love them as You do.  (Psalm 139)

MARIJUANA AND PSYCHEDELICS

Voters rejected marijuana legalization ballot measures in three states (Florida, North Dakota, and South Dakota), and voters in Massachusetts rejected an initiative to legalize natural psychedelic substances, including psilocybin.

Prayer

Oh Lord God, we lifted up our eyes to You, knowing it is from You that our help comes. We praise You holy Father for your protection over the people in these states from the wickedness of illicit drugs and evil doers who prey on children and the hopeless. We pray you will redeem the lives of those caught in the pit of addictions through Jesus Christ. When they seek to escape the trials of life, may they find You, their Deliverer.  (Psalm 103, 121)

EDUCATION

Voters let their voices be heard on 12 education-related ballot measures in 2024—the most in 18 years. The ballot measures covered various education-related topics, including school choice programs, non-public education, standardized testing, school board elections, and school governance and funding.  iVoterGuide covered four of the ballot measures relating to education.

Supporters of school choice programs that provided families with taxpayer funding for private education or homeschooling, sought to expand these policies through constitutional amendments in Colorado and Kentucky. Both ballot measures were rejected.

Prayer

Lord God, creator of the family, we humbly ask that You would do the fighting for America's parents to be able to raise and educate their children freely. We pray You would dismantle the forces of darkness against them, and raise up leaders to restore their God given rights to keep them from falsehoods and evil philosophies.

As always, we know God is faithful to answer our prayers.  We ask you to join us we humble ourselves, pray, and seek God's face according to 2 Chronicles 7:14.
