QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Neutral
Abortion counseling or other pregnancy counseling services should not be offered in the school system. Parents need to guide this process through appropriate medical providers or counseling services per their family's value system.
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Neutral
This is not a school board issue.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.
Strongly Agree
Religious freedom is guaranteed in the Constitution, and all individuals of any faith can speak freely and civilly about that.
School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Regardless of your belief system in regard to marriage, school systems should not discriminate at all.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Neutral
This is not an issue for school boards.
School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.
Disagree
School districts need to remain non-partisan and objective in the political arena.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
The Federal government should not be involved in education including college. The more institutionalized education becomes, the less we can focus on the unique needs and strengths of each child.
EDUCATION
What is the function of the local school board?
To oversee the general direction of school operations and set the strategy for the schools in its purview. The school board is also responsible for the wise and prudent expenditure of taxpayer monies. The ultimate goal is to ensure each child's successful growth in a safe and productive academic environment free from political bias, harassment, and other unnecessary influences. School boards and superintendents are ultimately responsible for the preparation of our children to lead productive and well-rounded lives.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
The School Board has domain over approving curriculum but it needs to be with strong participation from teachers and parents. This needs to be a collaborative process with all three parties involved to ensure high-quality content free from political bias.
When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?
Never.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
In my opinion, the core educational content should be in Language Arts, Mathematics, Information Technology, American History, Science, and Personal Finance. These areas are key to human development and success in the bigger world. Physical Fitness, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, and Foreign Language should be introduced, but the level of depth a student goes in each area should be determined by their passions and strengths. The unnamed content areas are where parents should drive that learning based on their own family values.
Which more closely matches your view of America's founding principles? A) Liberty and equality. B) Slavery and racism.
Liberty and equality
What does "equity in education" mean to you?
Each child has the equal opportunity to access education, experience a safe and positive learning environment, have access to great teachers and facilities, and receive an educational curriculum that encourages their individual growth and success.
Written parental consent (opt-in) must be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).
Strongly Agree
Yes, parents should have to OPT-IN - not Opt-out of this type of course.
The loss of local control in education is too high a price to pay in exchange for federal dollars.
Disagree
I happen to be running in a district where 7 of the 10 schools are Title I. All 10 of my schools are minority majority schools and federal dollars do help enhance the learning opportunities for these students. However, I will say that local school boards receive those federal monies and distribute to the schools. There is a need for more transparency in how that money is distributed and used.
Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
Strongly Agree
We need the broadest definition of school choice so that your tax dollars follow your student.
School boards are accountable to parents and taxpayers.
Strongly Agree
Absolutely. We serve the communities we are elected in.
Do you believe students should have access to materials that graphically depict and describe sexual acts?
No
No, we need to move to an FCC Standard that says if you can't show it on public television or read it on public radio then it should not be in schools.
All print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review.
Strongly Agree
This is already the policy in our county but the policy is not always followed.
Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school.

2ND AMENDMENT
Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
Agree
Teachers should be required to go through additional training to carry firearms in schools.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Under what circumstances (if any) should schools be allowed to require vaccinations?
Individual schools and districts should not be allowed to require vaccines. Those requirements should come for the state's Department of Health.
I support mask mandates.
Neutral
There is not enough context to answer this question.
All official open meetings should be live streamed, recorded, and have transcripts available online for public access.
Strongly Agree
As public servants, our actions should be on public record.
All votes should be roll call votes and recorded in meeting minutes.
Strongly Agree
As public servants, our actions should be on public record.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No. I am a youth volleyball referee and go through yearly background checks.
A candidate's personal moral values are relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Agree
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
I don't have any interviews or media reports at this time.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University, a business owner in the human capital space, and have a pretty significant social media presence so voters can learn more about my positions and views on our campaign website at Amy4Sterling.com.
I voted in these primaries and general elections:
2014 General Election 2016 General Election 2018 General Election 2020 Republican Primary 2020 General Election 2022 Republican Primary 2022 General Election
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am an Episcopalian and was confirmed in 1994.
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
As a former Division I volleyball player and youth coach and referee, I strong disagree. Biological males have no place in biological women's sports. I do believe that certain sports could create an "open" division where anyone can compete and to accommodate transgender athletes.
No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student, including the use of alternative names and pronouns.
Strongly Agree
I support Governor Youngkin's approach to parents directing this choice and it is the policy that school districts are to follow this coming school year.
No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.
Strongly Agree
Parental rights are not to be infringed per national and state law.
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Parents are responsible for teaching their children about all issues related to sex. The current state of teaching sex education has broken the trust of parents therefore I believe schools are no longer in a position to put appropriate boundaries on their own sex education curriculum for students.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
IF schools are to teach Sex Ed it needs to be done in the framework of teaching basic human biology and should only cover the following topics; human anatomy, the reproductive system, stages of pregnancy and fetal development, contraceptive methods, consent, and abstinence. Parents need to have the ability to OPT-IN to this education for their children, not OPT-OUT.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support allowing public middle and high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Did not answer
Biological males should be allowed in female locker rooms and bathrooms.
