QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

The word allowed is a bad start to the question. It indicates a removal of liberty and says that a person has to get permission to make an already difficult decision. It should be rephrased to say “under what circumstances should abortion be legally permissible?” The law should never dictate when abortions are legal until it is decided when life truly begins, from a medical not a spiritual stand point. At what point is life sustainable outside the womb? Is that at conception or is it at a different time? I believe Colorado HB22-1279 is not drafted to be in the best interest of Colorado citizens and is a horrible act of defiance by the legislature. It is detrimental at so many levels, it is too much to discuss in this brief summary, so I will leave it at: I will work to repeal this legislation and work with my constituents to represent the Western Slope of Colorado and replaced with new verbiage that represents the people of the Western Slope of Colorado.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Agree

I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Agree

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

Under what circumstances can government close churches?

Using the 2020 events of Covid-19, the churches closed on their own because they believe in the health, safety, and security of their members as much or more than the government does. The government should not need or have the ability to close churches without the consent of the church or its members.

NATIONAL SECURITY

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?

I do not have a solution to this and find it to be a bigger discussion than a quick answer on this survey.

I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.

Neutral

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.

I fall somewhere between C and D. I am a believer in D; however, I am not opposed to C. I feel that the government has no business being in business, yet, at the same time, I see the value in Medicaid and Medicare and am not opposed to keeping it in place, so long as we monitor it for abuse.

Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?

I don’t feel vaccines should be required by the government or by public schools. Private employers and private schools have more liberties they can take, as they are private entities. Two things I would note regarding schools: 1- parents should not hav etc sit through annual video presentations to opt out of vaccines for their children and 2- students traveling abroad would need to follow the vaccine protocol for the country they are visiting in order to participate in said trip(s). EUA vaccines should not be required or mandated.

ECONOMY

What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?

I would like to see the IRS go by the wayside and, along with it, the income tax, estate tax, and other government financial overreach. I think there is a middle ground to be found, such as Rand Paul’s suggested a blend of a fair tax and a flat tax. I would like to investigate removing the income tax to see where the pendulum would swing. I would like to see the double taxation of our income stop (for example: applying income tax to tax refunds, taxing inheritance that was already taxed when our parents earned it, etc). Additionally, social security was never intended to be taxed, yet it is today.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Colorado has proposed its first balanced budget since the 1990’s. I think we need to start by reigning in the abuse of our entitlement system (food stamps, Medicaid, etc.) and we should look at the core purpose of our state government to focus the government’s spending. We cannot fix an unbalanced budget or debt ratio overnight when we have been in debt for so long. It will take time and discipline.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Disagree

IMMIGRATION

The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.

Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Legal immigrants should be allowed to enter for work and tourism. We need to stop illegal immigration and address the criminal side-effects of such opened borders.

EDUCATION

I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.

Agree

We need education repair, not reform. The system is broken and our children and students are paying the price. It is time to fix the system.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.

Agree

I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.

Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

There are already too many restrictions on gun ownership. We need education on both firearm responsibility and personal responsibility. We also need less government legislation that creates new criminals as opposed to convicting criminals of current law. The argument of gun control began in 1689 when the King of England passed the first gun control law in the history of the world - stating that protestant citizens, with permission of their governor, could own guns for hunting. Escaping this type of oppression against the citizens is one of the foundational values of our country. Today’s arguments for gun control are no different than they were 300 years ago - it is an effort for the government to control its population, leaving them unprotected and vulnerable.

Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

What do you think is the general purpose of government?

Each level of government serves a different purpose. Our government is in place to ensure the agreed-upon common terms of our American Society are supported. It is not the government’s role to micro-manage our morality or to dictate how we live our individual lives. Since I am a candidate for a State position, I will add that the purpose of state government is to ensure the security of our state, maintain the roadways, ensure an education system is in place, and to support the health and safety of our residents and visitors - including protecting the individual rights of our state citizens.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).

Search my name on www.VailDaily.com and the Town of Eagle archives to see my past voting record.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No.

What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?

My role as a Senator is to represent the people of my District. I will do this by voting first for the Constitution, second for my constituents, and my own opinions should come last. I believe that, as a Senator, I should operate with transparency, consistency, and predictably. Also, it should be noted that I am amazing.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

I would add that those values set the moral stage, but should not be legislated by the government.

I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.

Disagree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition

Neutral

I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian who believes people have the right to live their life without interference from the government. I was raised Catholic and have studied many of the religions of the world. I believe that my faith is between myself and God and I hold that close to my heart. I live with honor, act with integrity, and speak with truth in all areas of my life.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?

Air-gapped machines that are audited after every election or upon request. Mail-in ballots are acceptable for military personnel or for excused reasons; these ballots should be security sealed and marked. I would also like to see a state-level electoral college for state-wide issues, where each county has 2 electoral votes (based on the county popular vote). Voter ID should be required and compulsive voter registration needs to stop. We also need to audit and purge out of date information and voter records.

EQUALITY

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Yes, it is an internal threat that is causing divisive banter from both sides. Critical race theory should not be taught in schools. Erasing history or distorting historical facts to create racial agendas today limit our ability to evolve and mature as a society. Let’s accept and embrace history, not re-write it. Then, let’s come together with out resentment for a better tomorrow.

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Disagree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

I agree with both and find that we can have more jobs and a strong economy with fact- and science-based environmental laws. This can only be done by removing the agendas from one side or the other.

I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
