QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
If the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, North Carolina should repeal its law allowing abortion up to 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
When the life of the mother is at risk if the pregnancy were carried full term and in cases of rape or incest.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Neutral
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
There should be a wall between the government and the free expression of religious views. That is one of our founding principles. When government seeks to restrict religious liberty it must have a compelling interest and its restriction must be narrowly tailored to achieve that purpose. Believers should be able to live out their faith through government service, and people of faith should have a voice in public policy decisions.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I would seek to reduce the role of the federal government in providing healthcare (with the exception of existing veterans programs) and leave all healthcare program administration and provision to the states. For example, block grant Medicaid funds to the states to administer as they see best. I would seek to remove barriers to competition in the health insurance markets across state lines, reduce regulatory restraints that increase costs without increasing the quality of care, expand scope of practice opportunities within health care, telemedicine, and in NC reform certificate of need laws.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Agree
State, sheriff and local law enforcement agencies should be required to participate in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) Program to enhance the safety and security of their communities to identify and detain aliens.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
The only circumstances that people should be allowed to immigrate to the US are by following immigration law. No violent criminals should be allowed to immigrate even through legal means. Political and religious refugees who have been targeted for persecution in their home country for their political or religious beliefs should have the first priority in immigration. People with needed skills or educational backgrounds who will fill necessary jobs and careers in the United States should get second priority. People who are fleeing poverty should not get priority because that is economic migration. If, after accepting political/religious refugees and people with needed skills, it is determined that there is capacity, then I would support some people being approved for immigration because of poverty.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The gun laws we have now are adequate to protect public safety.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Get North Carolina back to work after the COVID shutdown and get the economy going again. 2. Reform of the Emergency Management Act so that one person (the Governor) does not have unilateral and unchecked power to restrict our society for as long as he determines is necessary. 3. Reform of the public education system so that children who graduate from public high schools have job and other skills and are prepared either for the military, a career, or higher education.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I support second amendment gun owners' rights, protection of the unborn, and low taxes and limited government. Taxes are necessary to provide infrastructure that needed for commerce, public safety, and other public benefits. Elected officials must be certain the taxpayers' monies are well spent on things that benefit everyone and not one special interest group.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I am a practicing attorney with experience helping people with their legal problems. I am a mother of three young adult children, so I am acutely aware of the challenges facing families today. I am the wife of an Air Force veteran and stood at his side during his war service. I have elderly parents and know personally the challenges that the elderly face today. I have served as an Alamance County Commissioner since 2016 and have served on numerous local boards as a commissioner. I have a deep and broad knowledge of the issues facing North Carolina and have worked with others in our community to address them. I grew up in this community and returned here with my family in 2009 to raise my children here. I know the people of this community and am running for office because I want to represent them and help them with their challenges.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I grew up in NC Senate District 24 and have deep roots here. I graduated from Western Alamance High School in 1985. My husband, a former Air Force pilot who now works for FedEx, and I have been married for 26 years. Our three children attended public schools in Alamance County. I care deeply about this community and have served it as a county commissioner since 2016. I would be honored to continue my service through the North Carolina Senate.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
Parents should have the right to know what schools are teaching their children about sex and LGBT issues and should have the right to opt their children out of any instruction to which they object.
Strongly Agree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian.
