QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Strongly Agree

If the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, North Carolina should repeal its law allowing abortion up to 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I believe if a woman is raped she should have the right to have an abortion if her conscience allows her to do so.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

No Answer

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The First Amendment is clear on this issue and I vehemently support the First Amendment.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Strongly Agree

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Affordable and accessible healthcare in this country is one of our greatest challenges. As a board member of our hospital I understand our arcane payment system and sometimes wonder how it works. But it seems to work. To my knowledge the USA is the only nation in the world with our system of reimbursement. Some pay nothing, others that have insurance pay an exorbitant amount. That said, as a County Commissioner I voted for the County Health Department to open 2 FQHC health clinics. Without going into a lot of detail, it provides a great service to the public. Payment is on a sliding scale system, patients pay what they can afford, and the federal government pays for much of the rest.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

State, sheriff and local law enforcement agencies should be required to participate in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) Program to enhance the safety and security of their communities to identify and detain aliens.

Strongly Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Only those who follow the laws and processes currently in place.

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

2ND AMENDMENT

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

No Answer

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

The laws currently in place in NC seem to be restrictive enough. I am a strong advocate for the 2nd amendment. I am a gun owner and hold a concealed carry.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

Did not answer

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

I served as a County commissioner for 12 years. When I left office in December 2018, Craven County had the 17th lowest property tax rate out of the 100 counties in the state. We also had around $30,000,000.00 in a rainy day fund. We were able to do this not by cutting programs, we did it by being great stewards of the taxpayers money. I am totally opposed to the destruction of the nuclear family as the Lefist's seems to be supporting. I am the father of a combat veteran, I am a veteran of the Army, and the son of a W.W.2 POW, so I was raised in a patriotic family. I believe this is the greatest nation on earth despite the mistakes we have made in the past. I support legal immigration. The U.S.A. allows more legal immigrants than any other nation on Earth. I adamantly oppose illegal immigration and support the President's position on border security. I support term limits for Congress as I believe it is the only way to for Congress to make tough fiscal decision.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I joined the Army when I graduated from High school. In basic training 200 of us were put in WW2 era barracks, kids from all over the county and from all walks of life. You were taught that if your company was going to be successful everyone was going to work together. And we did. I got my General Contractors license when I was 24 and started my own homebuilding business soon thereafter. The homebuilding business requires you to work with a wide assortment of people, from bricklayers to bankers, and picky clients. I picked the best workers I could find regardless of race or background. As a County Commissioner for 12 years I understand these basic tenets: The government can not give you anything without taking from someone else. You want something from the government, you must pay for it. The government that governs best, is closest (local) to the people.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No and no.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Having served as a County Commissioner for 12 years my voting record is public. During my tenure we went through 2 of the worse hurricanes in our recorded history. We went through the greatest economic meltdown since the great depression. Our board worked together and through it all we came out of the crisis stronger than we went into them. I am a Christian, Conservative, and a get it done type person.

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Agree

I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Parents should have the right to know what schools are teaching their children about sex and LGBT issues and should have the right to opt their children out of any instruction to which they object.

Strongly Agree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised a Catholic. Although I am no longer practice Catholicism, it instilled in me a strong Christian base that remains with me to this day. I am a practicing Christian today and believe in the tenets of Jesus Christ.
