QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe abortion should be outlawed in all situations. If there is case where one of the patients are causing lethal harm to the other, then medical intervention with the intent to save both lives should be taken. It is my core belief that regardless of the circumstances, a human life is at stake when considering abortion. A life is a life, and taking away that life should be against the law. I am also a strong supporter of pregnancy resource centers who compassionately care for women before and after the birth of their child.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
If Roe v. Wade is overturned by the US Supreme Court, how far are you willing to go to roll back North Carolina's statutory abortion law that allows abortion up to 20 weeks?
Life is a gift from God and should be protected. Life starts at conception.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
Would you support a limitation on chemical abortion that protects women from taking abortion pills without the care and supervision of a qualified physician?
Yes
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Religious liberty is a right given by God.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
I cannot think of a circumstance - especially during a time of national crisis (like COVID).
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
I believe our founding fathers intended for the state not to control the church and for every citizen to freely practice their faith. Likewise, they intended for people of faith to bring their faith into the public square and the government offices where they serve. The evidence for this is overwhelming. The gross misunderstanding of the “separation of church and state concept” , which is not in the Constitution, is resulting in religious liberty issues in the U.S
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
Option C. I support everyone having access to health care. Life and the quality of life are precious. But that does not mean that the government should be the one requiring, controlling, and incentivizing it. This issue, like others, exceeds the mandate of the government and is a personal decision better left to the people. In those cases where individuals need financial assistance, it is better administered by social and religious groups than political groups. As people move further from serving, we lose the joy and privilege of caring for each other.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
I cannot think of one. I support giving the option, especially for the most vulnerable.
ECONOMY
The government should do more to close the gap between the working class and the wealthy.
Agree
Rather than focusing on reducing the wealth of some, the government's focus should be to remove barriers for those that want to work hard, take risks, and prosper economically.
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
The tax code should be (1) made simpler, (2) reduce the number of exceptions, (3) touch a larger percentage of citizens.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
Well-educated citizens are in the best interest of the nation. The evidence does not support a free education resulting in people being well educated. Even easy access to loans has resulted in people with degrees who can not support the debt. As a homeschool parent and grandparent, I support a system where parents are more involved in the education process and control of the content.
EDUCATION
States should allow parents to use the Opportunity Scholarship Program to fund private school for their children.
Agree
I support Opportunity Scholarships as a way to empower parents to make choices that are in their children's best interest. Students do not belong to the state. And we should recognize that the education of our children exceeds the charter of the government.
In what situations does a parent not have the right to know what their child is being taught in public school?
None. One of the reasons Susan and I pulled our children from the public school system was because of what they were being taught. Other parents may choose to address the issue in different ways. It is the right of the parent to know what their children are being taught and their responsibility to make the best choice for them.
When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?
When they are not participating in a respectful and constructive manner. Those talking and listening are people and they both deserve to be treated with respect.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
My father was a policeman. My brother was a policeman. I understand in part the stress of the position and the incredible task we ask these public servants to do. Police departments have some bad characters, like many companies. But the legal threat is not the best way to improve the quality of service.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
As a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, I do recognize that we have an issue in the U.S. and in North Carolina when it comes to gun violence. However, I believe this is an issue driven by a mental health crisis, not by access to firearms. Based on the evidence from countries and cities that have restricted access to firearms, I do not believe that limited access will end the homicide problem in the U.S.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Would you support legislation that prohibits biological boys from competing on girls sports teams?
Yes
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
Governments should secure our God-given rights like protecting life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In this fallen world, the people need to come together and empower the government to provide security and enable trade.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Please refer to my website, www.ECforNC for endorsement of faith, social, and political leaders. The site includes my bio where I share my experience, background, and campaign objectives.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I would encourage readers to visit www.ECforNC.com to learn more about my background, legislative priorities, platform, and plan to win. As I tell voters everywhere I go, our campaign is a big tent and everyone is welcome!
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
History is full of lessons when this works and what happens when Judeo-Christian values are removed.
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a compassionate Christian with a Biblical worldview. My Christian faith shapes my values and is the reason I felt the call to action to run for office. I believe life begins are conception and is to be protected. Likewise, I believe the live of the elderly and the infirm are precious and assisted suicide is wrong. I believe that people should take care of people and the government has grown to the point where it has taken on responsibilities that exceed the boundaries of the Constitution.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Everyone who is eligible should be able to vote. Eligible voters should not have their vote diluted by fraudulent voters. Photo identification is a reasonable means to verify one's ID and is easily obtainable.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
We need to make voting accessible. I support concepts like early voting but the weeks of early voting come at the expense of voting integrity. The same with mail-in ballots, except for those deployed or working out-of-state.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is a real issue, a sin, and is opposed to biblical values and the Constitution. It is an issue wherever man lives and is not unique to the United States. It affects every race and reducing it will improve the strength of our country and the lives of our citizens.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
Option A. We need reasonable energy and environmental laws but common sense appears to have left the conversation.
