QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Disagree
As this question is worded, it is asking to deny funding that covers all other women's healthcare services based on one procedure. It has already been a law for decades that Federal Funding cannot be used for abortion services. But this would punish those who are seeking other needed healthcare.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
At a minimum: a Non viability of a fetus; the life of the mother - before she is about to die; cases of rape and/or incest. But I am neither a doctor nor a woman. This is not something that should be regulated by legislature. I am wise enough to know that, legal or not, abortions are going to happen. I would rather have them happen in a safe, clean, medical environment.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Disagree
Biblically speaking, life begins at first breath. The Bible also treats a fetus as property, not life.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Strongly Disagree
An embryo is not a viable lifeform.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Minimum Wage was started with the intent that anyone working full time should be able to afford to live comfortably. That ideal has not kept up with our economy. The Federal Minimum Wage was last raised in 2009.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Agree
It is not the role of the government to own businesses or control means of production. However, it is the government's role to regulate standards of safety for workers, environment, and consumers.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
Stop no-bid contracts; investigate and prosecute Medicaid fraud by providers
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
It means that everyone in the United States is free to chose how to worship. It is your own personal decision that should be free of government interference via legislation. It also means the TN government needs to stop passing legislation based on their religious beliefs - which they have been doing for the last several years with laws like this year's The Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act. With 4000 denominations of Christianity, who's version should we force everyone to follow?
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Agree
If you are choosing to discriminate against customers based on their personal freedoms not matching with your beliefs, maybe you're in the wrong business. Obviously, the services being offered are not against "their moral and/or religious beliefs." So, it is strictly about discrimination not about services offered.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Nothing will change as long as health insurance as a for-profit venture. While "A" should be the long term goal, we should definitely move to "B". The stigma of paying the government more money is the problem. Paying an estimated $2000 a year for universal healthcare instead of paying a private company $14,000-$30,000 a year just to have the card in your pocket, plus all the copays and deductibles, seems like a no-brainer.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Disagree
This sounds like a HIPAA violation ("a database of people" not just illness statistics) as well as a tactic to cut of treatment for people that are deemed too expensive. "[If they're going to] die, they had better do it and decrease the surplus population." - Ebenezer Scrooge
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
Agreed, but so do many other countries. We cannot just focus on China. Why is this Administration aligning us with North Korea? They are helping Russia fight Ukraine.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
I support the Israeli people. However, the current Israeli administration's [overre]actions make it hard to support their current government.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Neutral
We are told to welcome the stranger - not vilify them. “When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God." Leviticus 19:33-34 (ESV) ‘Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’ Deuteronomy 27:19 (NIV)
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Disagree
The DOE does not set school curriculum. It does help with educational standards, and ADA programs and compliance.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Neutral
Lower education isn't funded by foreign governments. Higher education accepting funding towards research programs is quite different than the implication of "funding American education", thereby manipulating curriculum that this question implies. Is funding from countries like England or Israel also to be included on this Foreign Contribution list?
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Neutral
I support every parent's right to make decisions concerning their child. But school curriculum is best left to educators. Banning books is taking away parental rights to choose for their child.
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Disagree
This question goes against the ideals of the former question about parents' rights to direct their child's health. This is not a "whim" decision and is not made lightly.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
"Traditional, Biblical marriage" is a misnomer. The Bible is filled with it's leaders having multiple wives and harems, women being forced to marry their deceased husband's brother, etc. Someone else's marriage should not affect the sanctity of your marriage. Marriage is more than a religious entity. It also covers societal legal implications as well. For example, being able to visit loved ones in the hospital, healthcare, property, etc.
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Neutral
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I would describe myself more as spiritual than religious. I have found most organized religions of any type are too exclusionary and do not fit my values of inclusion. I believe being a good moral person is not an exclusive trait of the religious.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Neutral
If it is a free government issued ID that is easily obtained, then I have no problem with it. But when you start requiring costly, hard to obtain IDs then you getting into voter suppression territory. It should not be harder to vote than to purchase a gun.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Neutral
This is a misrepresentative statement.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Disagree
There are approximately 10 Transgender women in collegiate sports out of 242,341 women. This is another scare tactic for a non existent problem. A true transgender person has gone through years of psychological care before transitioning. If you are fearful of a man saying "I feel like a woman today" to go into women's facilities then you are against a pervert, not a transgender woman. Transgender people are trying to not draw attention to themselves.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Strongly Agree
If you don't think we affect the atmosphere, just look at the before and during satellite photos during the 2020 world wide lockdown. Every year we set a new global temperature record.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
I'm not a scientist. But I will listen to their recommendations. I feel we do need to move towards renewable, less pollutant energy sources than fossil fuel and coal.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Liberal
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
Enforcement of laws
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Agree
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Agree
Secular law should not be based on Sharia law. Nor should it be based on Christianity, Judaism , Budism, or any other religion. That goes against the Constitution's 1st Amendment.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Stronger background checks; closing gun show loopholes; banning weapons of war from being sold to the general public. Read more at trekforward.org
