QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Neutral

All living beings deserve legal protection. It is a matter of ethics, personhood and legal rights that is philosophical. While I know what choice is right for me, I don't want to pass the same judgement on others due to my own beliefs hence the neutral rating.

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

The school, an institution, is bound by state and federal laws in responding to a student in such need. School should continue to follow the legal bounds it has been handed like mandatory reporting within 48 hours for under 17 cases. Maximize the student centered approach while partnering with the family (where there is no abuse or incest) of the minor to support both the student and the family in their pursuit of education and better future. TEA provides guidance here - https://tea.texas.gov/health-safety-and-discipline/weather-and-disaster/pregnancy-related-services/pregnancy-related-services. The PRS includes both a Compensatory Education Home Instruction (CEHI) and access to counseling, health services, and more.

ECONOMY

Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.

Neutral

Some public services require masters degree+ but their wages have not kept up with inflation. eg. Teachers' degree requirements and compensation do not match a respectable livable wage especially in Texas. It is unfair to ask Americans to get qualified using debt and then work in low paid critical sectors. Here student loan forgiveness makes sense. For people enrolled in bogus courses through private uncredited institutions, they should be held to payment terms unless they are scammed.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

My position is to continue the foundations that this country was built on - which is funding of public school education. It happens today through public schools, community colleges and to some extent state universities. Public schools produced some brilliant minds in USA like Steve Wozniak, Warren Buffet, Richard Feynman and so many more. Government should look into how it continues to appropriately fund nurturing of this brilliance in every zip code that helped USA become a great country.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

With regard to public schools, what does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

It means exactly like it states. Politics and religion does not belong in schools funded by a pool of tax payers who may come from different political and religious belief.

IMMIGRATION

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enhances the safety and security of communities by identifying and detaining illegal aliens.

Disagree

Only 3% of ICE has confirmed violent felony conviction (Source: CBS) while ice.gov doesn't report verifiable data. That means 97% of arrests directly linked to unprecedented monumental spending on ICE has not made our communities any safer but have resulted in death of Americans on the street. The money is funneling to private detention facilities making the rich richer but not making any change for the communities.

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Choose not to answer

School is not a medical services provider. We cannot even enable a remote therapy appointment on the school premise. Medical practice license is not any school district's remit. I do not understand the relevancy of this question in the context of the schools.

Consequences for bad behavior create a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Neutral

This is a generalized statement that is missing finer details. What does bad behavior mean in context of this question? Assault by a non-special needs student is a bad behavior and should have proportional consequence. Identified special needs students that can cause danger to others need specialized approach and environment. In day to day classroom, yes, clear written policies that are acknowledged by parents and students should guide identifying bad behavior and consequences.

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Neutral

The children are studying Texas and US history. We took trips to DC and Pennsylvania to see the original constitution and absorb the US history. I believe this is happening in schools and families already. I need specifics on what would this 'thorough education' entail beyond what we are doing today, mayhap a curriculum overview to weigh in on this statement.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Disagree

US Dept of Ed and State Dept are both needed for checks and balances. FAPE is a federal right. The 14th Amendment, ratified in 1868, is also a federal responsibility. I do not trust any state government (Texas or California) or federal government (D or R) completely to say I will be ok with complete control by only one entity who is not always in the best interest of the broader community. Education is too important to mess with and requires checks and balances at both State and Federal levels.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

I'm not an expert on Sex-Ed so I will abstain from commenting.

It is discriminatory for a school district to cause academically eligible students to forfeit participation in U.I.L. competition when the student opts for instruction outside of the public school system.

Neutral

U.I.L. sets its own rules. SB 401 allows for participation choice. I would like to get more information on what legal discrimination is at play here to weight in on this statement. For eg., if a student is homebound due to illness but is academically eligible to participate, that maybe a supporting case for this statement but I need specifics on what kind of discrimination this statement is referring to.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

Unsure whose priorities are being asked here. The ask doesn't explicitly state my priorities list or district's or community's or state's. Unable to answer unless a question is clear.

Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and building character necessary to preserve American traditions and self-government.

Neutral

Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and build character. That is already happening. I would like more information on which American traditions are being referred to here - voting as civic duty? or following college football? These things also the norm currently. We do need better education to continue the tradition of self government by enabling choice of smart, ethical, non-criminal leaders with high moral values that can be role model for future generations.

School choice creates competition, and that competition will push public schools to improve their educational systems.

Neutral

If the rules for receiving the money are the same - same accountability and same amount per student then yes school choice can create healthy competition. The current school choice is asking me to compete against Usain Bolt in a race.
