QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Disagree

Access to safe, comprehensive reproductive healthcare, including early pregnancy termination, is essential for women’s health, equality, and well-being. Protecting access to care in complex late-term situations where the life or health of the pregnant woman is severely threatened is a critical medical necessity. Public policy should focus on expanding healthcare access, supporting families, and protecting fundamental rights rather than imposing legal restrictions on private medical decisions.

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

As a Trustee, I believe MSU must provide a compassionate, supportive environment for all students. The university's role is to ensure access to comprehensive, confidential healthcare resources, mental health counseling, and academic accommodations under Title IX so students can continue their education. MSU should respect student privacy and personal autonomy, empowering individuals to make their own informed healthcare decisions without judgment, barriers, or political interference.

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Agree

At a public institution like Michigan State University, we see firsthand how economic security directly impacts student success, innovation, and post-graduation achievement. Guaranteeing a livable baseline ensures that every individual, regardless of background, has a fair shot at upward mobility and the resources needed to lead a full, productive life.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

The Ten Commandments should be displayed in public school buildings or court houses.

Neutral

True religious liberty protects the right of individuals and faith communities to practice, display, and share their beliefs freely in private life and public discourse, without government body endorsement. In public education and judicial settings, state neutrality safeguards everyone’s religious freedom while maintaining equal dignity for all students, litigants, and citizens.

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Strongly Agree

Protecting free speech and freedom of expression is a foundational value of our democracy and a cornerstone of higher education. Students in public educational environments must be empowered to express their personal perspectives, faith, and matters of conscience openly and civilly without fear of censorship or institutional retaliation. Encouraging respectful dialogue across diverse worldviews—including Christian, non-Christian, and secular perspectives, fosters a vibrant, inclusive campus.

NATIONAL SECURITY

I support boycott, divestment, and/or sanctions (BDS) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

Neutral

Lasting peace in the Middle East and a viable path toward self-determination for both Israelis and Palestinians require nuanced diplomatic engagement. While advocating for human rights and a negotiated two-state solution remains a priority for many, opinions differ on the most effective tools to achieve these goals. Ultimately, addressing such complex international conflicts requires balancing accountability with open channels for constructive engagement, diplomacy, and mutual understanding.

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Disagree

Maintaining long-term peace requires prioritizing diplomacy, international cooperation, and conflict resolution over reliance on military force alone. While defense plays a role in national security, an overemphasis on military power can escalate global tensions, divert critical resources away from domestic needs, and risk unnecessary conflict. True peace is best achieved by addressing the root causes of instability,

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Disagree

Eliminating the DOE would severely harm states, creating massive financial deficits and widening educational inequality. States depend on vital federal funding like Title I grants for low-income K-12 schools, IDEA support for students with disabilities, and Pell Grants for college students. Shifting these costs to local budgets would force state tax increases or devastating program cuts, leaving poorer districts without the resources needed to provide quality education and protect civil rights.

I support taxpayer funding of public education from Pre-K through college.

Strongly Agree

Robust taxpayer support for public education from Pre-K through higher education is vital for economic mobility, innovation, and social equity. Investing early through universal Pre-K ensures children build a strong foundation, while fully funding K-12 public schools creates equal opportunities for all students, regardless of ZIP code. Treating education as a public good drives long-term economic growth, strengthens local communities, and equips future generations to thrive.

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Agree

Partnering with qualified healthcare organizations helps ensure students have access to age-appropriate, medically accurate health education, preventive care, and essential support services. Trusted community providers play a valuable role in supporting overall student well-being, promoting mental and physical health, and offering guidance on sensitive issues that families and schools may not fully address alone. At the same time, maintaining strong parental communication is appropriate.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

The Priorities are: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Civics, American History, Information Technology, Personal Finances, Foreign Language, Vocational Learning, Art & Music, Physical Fitness, Social Emotional Learning. Non-Core Priority, but important - political activism, critical race theory, gender identity, and sexuality.

Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?

Students deserve both equality of opportunity and an emphasis on equitable outcomes, as true opportunity cannot exist without actively addressing systemic barriers. Pursuing equitable outcomes means allocating resources targeted to student needs, such as Title I funding, specialized academic support, and wraparound services, so that every student, regardless of background or ZIP code, has the tools necessary to achieve success and reach their full potential.

VALUES

Children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming including drag shows, explicit materials in schools and libraries, and other public venues.

Agree

Protecting children from harmful, sexually explicit material is an important responsibility shared by parents, educators, and communities. Age-appropriate guidelines in public spaces, schools, and libraries help ensure that young people are exposed to media and events that match their developmental readiness.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Disagree

Faith shapes individual moral values, but civil law must uphold equal rights, dignity, and protections for all citizens regardless of their religious beliefs. In a pluralistic society, civil marriage serves as a legal contract conferring vital rights, protections, and responsibilities to families. While faith communities have the absolute right to define and practice religious marriage according to their doctrines, the government's role is to ensure equal protection under the law for all.

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Neutral

Parents play a vital and irreplaceable role in guiding their children’s education, health, and development. Open collaboration between families, educators, and healthcare professionals ensures students receive support both at school and at home. Strong public schools respect family perspectives while upholding evidence-based health standards, prioritizing student safety, and providing expert academic guidance so every child can succeed.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My faith as a Christian and member of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) is foundational to my life, instilling values of compassion, integrity, service, and love for all people. I believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and I strive to live out Christ’s teachings by acting as a faithful steward in my community, demonstrating humility, and advocating for justice, equity, and the well-being of every individual.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

Comprehensive, age-appropriate sex education is essential for equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to make healthy, informed decisions. Education should be medically accurate, inclusive, and tailored to developmental readiness. Prioritizing foundational health topics provides students with a strong framework for physical and emotional well-being: Human Anatomy and the Reproductive System: Understanding essential body functions, biological development, and health. Consent: Teaching boundaries, personal autonomy, safety, and mutual respect in all relationships. Contraceptive Methods & STI Prevention: Providing accurate information on preventing unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Abstinence: Emphasizing abstinence as a reliable and effective choice for preventing pregnancy and STIs. Stages of Pregnancy and Fetal Development: Offering clear, factual instruction on human development. Physical and Emotional Health Outcomes: Exploring the social, emotional, and physical aspects of personal relationships and personal health. Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity: Ensuring an inclusive, respectful environment that supports all students and fosters empathy. Providing factual, non-judgmental information empowers students to navigate their health responsibly while promoting safety, dignity, and mutual respect.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Agree

Elections can maintain high integrity and security through robust verification alternatives, such as signature matching, voter affidavits, and secure registration checks, without disenfranchising voters. Policies that allow voters without photo ID to cast a valid ballot ensure our democracy remains accessible, equitable, and representative of every community.

EQUALITY

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Agree

I advocate for the dignity and rights of the transgender community. Simultaneously, I support policies that safeguard women's sports and single-sex spaces to protect competitive fairness and respect individual privacy preferences.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Protecting public safety while respecting gun rights requires focused, evidence-based measures: Universal Background Checks, Extreme Risk Protection Orders (Red Flag Laws), Safe Storage Requirements and Community Violence Intervention. Balancing constitutional rights with practical safety solutions protects both individual freedoms and the safety of our communities.
