QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Disagree

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Any circumstances - that should be left up to those who are pregnant and their health care provider.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Agree

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Neutral

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Disagree

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Both the federal and MN state minimum wage are far too low. I support enacting a MN minimum wage that is a true living wage and adjusted to inflation over time as well as exploration and creation of some type of basic guaranteed income.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Neutral

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

As Secretary of State those that relate to that role and the work of the Office: 1) Reduce/eliminate the need for primary elections through the use of Proportional Representation for the MN House of Representatives & Ranked Choice Voting for any statewide, single-seat office. 2) Advocate for principled and sensible state investments on the the State Board of Investment. 3) As part of the Executive Council, identify ways MN may eliminate government waste & work with the MN legislature on that.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

As stated in the first amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". In other words government should not be intertwined in religion - either asserting that a particular religion must be practiced and followed by all/the state, or prevent one from practicing their religion of choice.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Agree

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

I am a strong supporter of option A - healthcare for all that is guaranteed/funded by the government. Service providers though would not be employees of the state. Furthermore, I favor strongly the the Minnesota Health Plan and the Minnesota Congress enacting such a plan.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Neutral

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Neutral

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Yes, the relationship is important and one we must seriously reverse course on. Our unyielding loyalty and financial support of the Israeli Zionist government must end now. As MN Secretary of State, and sitting on the State Board of Investment, I would advocate for principled state investments that withdraw any funds from the Israeli government and companies and any other corporations that are benefitting from the ongoing genocide of Palestinians and conflict in the region.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Strongly Agree

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Neutral

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Neutral

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Disagree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Disagree

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Neutral

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in the dignity of all and value the contributions each of us provide. I aspire to act in kinship with creation and in protection of the marginalized.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Agree

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Agree

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Disagree

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Strongly Agree

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

I am supportive of any truly renewable energy - principally wind and solar. Behind supplying demand, we need to support efforts to minimize demand - building weatherization and electric efficiency, personal energy use habits, and localized economies.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Choose not to answer

I don't care to look at political identification this way - 1) because these terms have become very subjective and weaponizing, and 2) because I believe politics are not linear.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No, I have not.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No, I have not.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

Holding the correct person(s) accountable for a crime committed and repairing both that person(s) and the individual/community they have harmed by committing said crime.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Agree

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Commonsense measures to prevent gun violence that include: - Background checks on all gun sales. - Red Flag laws, which give families or law enforcement a way to temporarily remove guns when they pose a serious threat to themselves or others. - Laws requiring secure storage of firearms and ammunition. - Getting assault weapons off our streets.
