ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Michigan's minimum wage should be raised to at least $15 per hour to keep pace with inflation and the rising cost of living, including the increasing costs of housing, childcare, groceries, and other necessities.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

To me, separation of church and state means that government should neither establish nor promote one religion over another, while protecting every individual's freedom to practice their faith. I believe that public schools should not promote any one religion over another. At the same time, I believe that studying different religions in an objective and educational context can foster understanding and tolerance, particularly in a tremendously diverse and culturally rich state like Michigan.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

I support option B: a government-funded healthcare insurance option that is available to anyone who wants it, alongside private insurance. Anyone who opts into the government option should pay through taxes rather than paying both taxes and private insurance premiums for the same coverage. The goal should be to give people a real choice in how they obtain healthcare coverage, not simply add another cost on top of their existing coverage.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Did not answer

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised Roman Catholic and have attended church approximately 99% of the weekends in my life. I attended religious elementary and high schools. I have studied the origins of Christianity to better understand how the Bible's content was brought together. But, like many people, I do have questions about certain church teachings. Ultimately, I believe one's relationship with his/her religion should be respected and that there are many different relationships that people can have with God, or with the physical world and morality in principle if they are nonbelievers.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Agree

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

I believe Michigan should substantially expand solar and wind while investing in the grid, storage, and other clean-energy sources needed to reliably meet growing electricity demand.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Choose not to answer

As an Independent candidate, my approach is to consider each issue on its own merits, rather than trying to align my beliefs with a particular point on the political spectrum. There are certain issues where my positions may be viewed as more conservative, and others where they may be viewed as more liberal. I do not subscribe to extreme positions, and I believe that effective policymaking requires an open mind, a willingness to consider new information, and a focus on what best serves the people

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

The goal of the criminal justice system should be to ensure that justice is applied fairly and impartially, while providing appropriate deterrence against criminal conduct.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Agree

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

There should be a recognition that different firearms are designed for different purposes. As such, I believe that a common sense approach to firearms would be to have laws and regulations that recognize those differences, rather than blanket applications. I also believe in laws that would prevent individuals with histories of violence from being able to obtain firearms.
