QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Agree

Taxpayer funding should not support elective abortions generally. However, public assistance should remain available in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger, including medically necessary procedures such as treatment for ectopic pregnancy.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

In cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Agree

Human life deserves legal protection, while allowing exceptions in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Neutral

I believe decisions regarding embryos created through IVF should generally be left to the individuals involved rather than dictated by government.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Agree

I do not support abortion-inducing drugs being mailed directly to patients for elective abortions. In the limited circumstances where I believe abortion should be permitted, the patient should be under appropriate medical supervision.

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Minimum wage policy should be determined by the states rather than the federal government. Different states have different costs of living and economic conditions, and states are better positioned to set wage standards that fit their own communities.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

1. Stop wasting money on programs that are not working. 2. Make agencies show where the money is actually going. 3. Cut out unnecessary spending on outside contracts, travel, vehicles, and other extras. 4. Make sure grant money and special funds are actually getting to the people and communities they were meant to help. 5. Hold people accountable when taxpayer money is wasted or misused.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

To me, separation of church and state means everyone has the right to practice their religion, or not practice a religion, without the government interfering. Government should not favor one religion over another or force anyone's religious beliefs on someone else.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Agree

If you open a business to serve the public, you should treat people the same. I don’t think it is right to demand protection from discrimination for yourself while turning around and discriminating against someone else because you disagree with their beliefs, religion, or way of life.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. I believe a public option should be available for people who cannot afford private insurance but do not qualify for Medicaid, while preserving private healthcare choices.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Strongly Disagree

I do not believe the government should maintain a database identifying individuals by their medical conditions for the purpose of determining their economic burden. Medical information should remain private, and the cost of someone's treatment should never be used to determine the value of that person's care.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber, intellectual property, and economic threats to the United States. I also believe the U.S. must continue investing in a strong military so we are prepared to defend ourselves as China’s capabilities grow.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

The United States’ relationship with Israel is important because Israel is a longstanding ally, but that relationship should not mean automatic agreement with every decision made by its government. I believe the United States should support its allies while still asking hard questions about military actions, foreign aid, and whether our involvement is truly in America’s best interest.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Disagree

I support lawful immigration and believe immigrants contribute to our economy, but I do not support local governments refusing to cooperate with federal immigration law.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Disagree

I support more school choice and more options for families, but I do not support simply shifting more power to state and local education bureaucracies. Too much control is already concentrated there. Families should have more freedom to choose the learning environment that works best for their children, including public, charter, Montessori, homeschool, and other alternatives.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Strongly Agree

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Strongly Agree

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Agree

I distinguish between social expression and medical transition. I do not consider how a child dresses, presents themselves, or chooses to socialize to be child abuse. However, I believe medical gender transition involving drugs or surgery should wait until adulthood, when the individual can make that decision for themselves.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Disagree

I believe marriage should be a legal union between two consenting adults. Government should not deny that right based on sex or sexual orientation, and religious beliefs should not be imposed through civil marriage law.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Neutral

West Virginia already has the lottery, video lottery, casinos, and online gambling. I do not see a clear need to expand gambling further at this time.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in treating people the way I would want to be treated. My values are centered on honesty, fairness, personal responsibility, helping people when they need it, and treating everyone with respect even when we disagree. I believe faith is personal, and I respect each person's right to practice their faith or not practice a faith without government interference.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

I believe voters should be required to show photo identification. Identification is already required for many important activities in everyday life, and requiring it to vote is a reasonable safeguard that can help protect confidence in election integrity.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

I do not believe government benefits or payments should be awarded based solely on race. People today should be treated equally under the law and should not be held personally responsible for actions committed by previous generations.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Agree

I strongly believe biological males should not compete in women’s sports, particularly contact sports, because biological differences in strength can create an unfair advantage and a real risk of injury. I also support protecting privacy in sex-specific spaces, but I recognize that situations involving individuals who have transitioned can be more complicated and should be handled reasonably.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Strongly Disagree

I do not believe climate change is caused by human activity, and I do not support using that claim to justify sweeping government mandates or emergency political action.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

I support a reliable energy mix of coal, natural gas, and nuclear power. West Virginia coal remains important, but nuclear has also proven dependable. Wind and solar can help, but should not be relied on as the backbone of the grid.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

I consider each issue on its own merits rather than following a party line. My views may be conservative on some issues and liberal on others, but my goal is to find practical solutions that are fair and make sense.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

The goal should be to protect the public, hold offenders accountable, and reduce repeat offenses. Inmates should be treated humanely but required to work and participate in structured rehabilitation that addresses why they offend and prepares them for life after release. Violent offenders should face appropriately harsher penalties.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Agree

Government should aggressively investigate and prosecute the online sexual exploitation of children, but protecting children should not become an excuse for broad government surveillance of law-abiding families. Parents still have the primary responsibility for supervising their children's online activity.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Strongly Agree

No religious law should dictate or supersede the laws of the United States. Everyone should be free to practice their faith, but our laws should apply equally to everyone regardless of religion.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I support background checks and reasonable age limits. People legally determined to be dangerous should not have access to firearms. However, nonviolent felons who have completed their sentence and paid their debt to society should have a reasonable process to restore their gun rights.
