The founding fathers were heavily influenced by John Locke, who's philosophy was derived from Thomas Hobbes works. Locke moderates Hobbes pessimistic view of man being primarily driven by self-interest by acknowledging the inalienable rights given to man by God of life, liberty and property and asserting that man has the wisdom to structure a government that can balance the necessity of individual freedom with the requirement of living in a society.

I was raised attending a Church of the Brethren and a Friends Church and retain many of their fundamental values. I believe that a person's relationship with God is private and not something to be flaunted in public for self-serving interest or self-aggrandizing. How you live your life, your morals and values reflect your spiritual values.
