QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Disagree

I believe in the separation of church and state.

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

If the student's life is in danger due to a crisis pregnancy, I would make sure the student gets the needed medical care.

ECONOMY

Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.

Disagree

College education has become unaffordable to too many students and results in many being overburdened with college debt. We need a skilled labor force to maintain our innovation excellence. We need everyone's best efforts--not just from certain economic groups.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Every student in our state is entitled to a free, equitable public education. Since an educated citizenry is vitally important for our democracy, a public education is intended to provide equal opportunity.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

With regard to public schools, what does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Keeping government and religion institutionally independent.

IMMIGRATION

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enhances the safety and security of communities by identifying and detaining illegal aliens.

Strongly Disagree

Most recently, US citizens have been killed, hurt, and terrorized by ICE personnel not identified as law enforcement. Forward-looking legal immigration policies and enforcement are not competing goals — they are mutually reinforcing,

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Schools are in the business of teaching and learning--not referring people to doctors.

Consequences for bad behavior create a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Neutral

Schools need to be safe spaces for students to learn. Bad behavior needs to be addressed and corrected.

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Neutral

Certainly in American History and Civics, students study the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and how our government works.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Disagree

The federal government plays an essential role in U.S. education by providing targeted funding (about 8% of K–12 spending), enforcing civil rights protections, supporting disadvantaged students through programs like Title I and IDEA, and administering federal student aid such as Pell Grants and loans.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

I support the Michigan Model

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

I can't really prioritize which subject areas are most important in K-12 education since most of these areas are required for graduation. Exceptions include: Critical Race Theory is not a K-12 topic, other topics are small topics in health or American History--like Gender Identity, Political Activism, Sexuality, Information Technology Social Emotional Learning is also not a course, but helping children deal with failures, disappointments, getting along with others, etc

Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and building character necessary to preserve American traditions and self-government.

Neutral

Certainly, public schools' mission is student growth in these areas. Public Schools are vitally important for our country's self-governance. Some traditions should be preserved, but not all. We have hopefully learned from past harmful traditions such as slavery, Asian American internment camps, racial stereotypes, etc.

School choice creates competition, and that competition will push public schools to improve their educational systems.

Strongly Disagree

Teaching and learning are not competitions. Public schools bring together students from different backgrounds, strengthening social fabric and fostering cooperation--not competition. The workplace demands that citizens work together with others to achieve the mission of the organization. Increasingly, school choice is resulting in re-stratification of student groups by income, disabilities, race, and educational backgrounds.

VALUES

Biological males should be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Choose not to answer

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe we are all created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Choose not to answer

I support the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

Strongly Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Disagree

As mentioned before, I believe in the separation of Church and State.

Mental health conditions such as anorexia and gender dysphoria need to be treated, not affirmed.

Neutral

I don't know what it would mean to affirm anorexia or other health issues.

School library books that have literary value, as determined by experts, should be exempt from obscenity laws.

Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Agree

Not all citizens have the same ability to own cars or have driver's licenses. Families whose lives are disrupted by homelessness, evictions, etc. may not have birth certificates or other legal documents needed to get IDs.

ABOUT YOU

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No

What political party are you affiliated with?

Democratic

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to immigration and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Liberal

2ND AMENDMENT

Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.
