QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Neutral

I am personally against elective abortions for personal convenience, but my beliefs should not be forced on others, since their beliefs are a first amendment right. The tragedy here is an unfortunate number of women died because doctors in some areas cannot perform a medically necessary abortion to save a woman's life for fear of arrest & imprisonment. Exceptions should also exist for rape, incest & severe fetal abnormalities. Clinics that provide health care & education should be supported.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

An abortion should always be available to save the life of the mother, and in cases of rape, incest, or severe fetal abnormalities where the fetus will die shortly after birth.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Agree

Life and death are sacred passages and should be honored, respected and protected, but legislating these protections can often do more harm than good.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Neutral

I believe that an embryo should be valued and protected since it could develop into a unique human being, but is not a human being nor a child yet. Legislating this grey area has already caused more harm than good.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Disagree

We cannot fathom or comprehend the situations of every woman that finds herself pregnant. Some women are abused or were raped. Some have chronic illnesses or have cancer. We cannot judge every situation with one-solution-fits-all type of thinking.

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

People that work 40 hours a week deserve to make a living wage. the minimum wage has not changed in decades and needs to be updated.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Disagree

Private property should be respected, but should be subject to zoning laws. Agricultural land is best zoned only for agriculture thereby protecting farmers & ranchers and our food supply from incursions from subdivisions. Zoning for industry and protecting our national resources is also of great importance if we want a sustainable society that is not reliant on outside resources.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

Term limits could eliminate self serving pork barrels and pet projects designed to win votes. Legislation should improve living conditions of all constituents. It is imperative to have independent Inspector Generals that look for waste and fraud to eliminate fraudulent disbursements, accidental overpayments, or miscalculated benefits, which accounts for huge waste in government. Coordinate and streamline agencies to eliminate overlapping programs which can end up paying for services twice.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The separation of church and state means neither the federal government nor any state government has an officially recognized religion or religious belief that all must adhere to. People are allowed to worship according to the dictates of their own conscience, let them worship how, when, or what they may.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

Mutual respect for diversity helps our society to flourish and be happier and healthier when differences are valued rather than trying to compel counterfeit sameness. We can be united without having the same religious values if we can respect each others belief's and individuality, but If services are available elsewhere, individuals and businesses should be allowed to respectfully decline doing business with those they disagree with.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

In a country as rich as ours, healthcare should be available to everyone. This is a complex issue and requires expertise to chart a proper course. That said, I believe the best choice given here is option B. Government healthcare through Medicare and Medicaid and private options could exist side by side. There have also been excellent government clinics designed for indigenous people, but they took everyone that came, that filled a gap in the system.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Strongly Agree

It is wrong to evaluate a person's worth by the cost of their medical treatment. Government is not a for-profit business, but a non-profit service, and all people have value beyond their net worth or lack thereof. No data base should ever exist for such statistics.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Agree

We have many enemies, and if we focus on one group then we leave ourselves open to attacks from others. A strong and independent CIA and FBI and other agencies are required to keep track of suspect groups and to keep the American people safe from terrorist attacks of every kind, both physical, civic, cyber, and economic.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

President Truman was the first to recognize Israel as an official country, but just as every international relationship is important, Isreal is now a strong nation in it’s own right and no longer needs support from struggling American tax payers.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Neutral

Being undocumented in the United States is not a crime. It is a civil violation rather than a criminal offense, similar to getting a speeding ticket. Most undocumented workers not only have jobs, but they pay their taxes, they pay social security even though they cannot use it. They have homes and support local economies. They have a constitutional right to be treated humanely and should have protection under the law in every city in the United States.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Disagree

The control of education has always been in the hands of the states. The U.S. Department only handles federal financial aid, distributes school funding, enforces civil rights laws, and collects national education data. It does not create school curricula or set local teaching rules, as those choices belong to states and local districts and always has.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Agree

Our educational system is and should remain funded by U.S. sources. One of the greatest exports that our country benefits from economically is the acceptance of foreign students. They pay a higher rate for tuition which augments our colleges & universities as well as our economy without exerting influence. They come because they value our U.S. educational system and their presence strengthens our system and our understanding of other cultures.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

Families are the fundamental unit of society, and their autonomy should be respected and preserved.

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Neutral

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Neutral

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Strongly Disagree

Gambling is a dead end, addictive behavior that encourages people to throw their hard-earned money away, brings in a criminal element & lowers property values. Everyone loses except for the Casino.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe the Constitution of the United States is divinely inspired by God and that we need to follow the rule of law, which has always meant that no single person is above the law regardless of position or wealth. The Constitution has inspired other constitutions all over the world, which is God's plan to allow all men everywhere freedom to choose their values. The constitution must be vigorously defended & upheld if we are to remain a free nation.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Neutral

I have worked as an Inspector in polling places over 3 presidential elections, where no ID was required, just a signature. We didn't have any issues or problems. That said, I am not opposed to voters using photo ID. if a voter is unable to afford a state ID card or driver's license, the state should issue one without cost to the person since it is a constitutional right to vote and should not be obstructed or hindered by a poll tax or in any other way, regardless of lack of income or status.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Neutral

Depends on the situation. Throughout the history of our country, people of color have been mistreated & denied constitutional rights and dignity. The Tuskegee Study of untreated syphilis in negro males conducted by the U.S. Public Health Service went on for 40 years with the men being denied proper treatment, even after penicillin became available. 400 men were denied medical treatment until 1972. This is a shameful episode in our history and the government should & did pay reparations.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Agree

I agree on principle, but there is not a single solution to this scenario. There are many nuances and situations that require situational review and solutions.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Strongly Agree

The science is clear. Climate change is real and we need to act now. Besides political action, individuals can make better choices. There is a lot corporations, governments, and individuals can do to deal more effectively with the problem. We can make a difference.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

One source of energy is not enough. We need to utilize all safe & clean sources of energy to maintain a diversified energy grid.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

Just as our Constitution develops freedom and accountability through the three branches of government which checks & balances each other, we need those same balances on the state & local level. Respect and regard for one another is always part of our American way of life.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No,

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

To permanently incarcerate violent & dangerous criminals that will always be a menace to society, such as pedophiles, serial rapists & murderers. Secondly, we need to make good citizens out of the rest of them. One year of education can provide immediate job skills such as basic accounting, project management, or web development which will help avoid recidivism. The mentally ill & drug abusers should be in their own system to address their issues and reduce the prison population.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Strongly Agree

All levels of government need to be involved in protecting our children. Sexual web sites and inappropriate images that are now everywhere need to be removed, and all social media needs to be policed for inaccuracies, lies and exploitation. This is a huge problem. Social media not only refuses to stop the spread of misinformation, foreign governments also use it spread lies.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Strongly Agree

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I am affected every time I see 2 Sandy Hook parents pleading on TV for gun safety rules. We should pay better attention to their message and do more to protect our children.
