QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
Providers of elective abortion should not receive grants or special funding for abortion or other programs offered. However, any licensed medical provider should have equal access to public funds for services rendered to patients such as with Medicaid and Medicare and for contracted services provided to or for government agencies.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Elective abortion should never be allowed for a healthy zygote, embryo, or fetus. Our laws must be structured to be limited specifically to the preservation of life without an iota of unnecessary suffering or cruelty. The purpose of prohibiting abortions is not the abolition of the procedure itself but to protect life. Laws must written so as to never allow a grieved mother to be arrested following a miscarriage or delay any medically indicated procedure.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Every human life has a right to life and deserves legal protection of that right beginning at the conclusion of conception until death. As our society is able, the moral obligation to protect and preserve life includes the physiological needs of Maslow's hierarchy including clean air and water, nutritious food, shelter from the elements, a place to sleep, clothing, and the ability to make reproductive decisions.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Strongly Agree
It is a moral outrage to create individual human lives with the intent to destroy them. IVF is a medical marvel that can still be used without creating additional embryos not intended for implantation. The intentional destruction of artificially created embryos should be banned.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Strongly Disagree
I am opposed to laws that limit or restrict the sale, transportation, possession, or legal use of drugs or weapons. Laws should only prohibit the specific harm sought to be prevented and not restrict any precursor elements of crime that are not in and of themselves wrong.
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
I'm principally opposed to a minimum wage. It sets a standard not a minimum and is less effective of a protection than organized labor. Therefore, I believe states should raise the minimum wage with inflation unless the federal government repeals it.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
I am deeply committed to the free market as the only mechanism that can effectively and fairly direct the resources of our world. Trade is the economic engine that drives our economy. Everyone has the right to conduct trade for the benefit of themselves and their families without government licensing and control. Corporate capitalism exists as the single greatest threat to a functioning free market as corporations seek continuous value growth in an endless pursuit of capital accumulation.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
Fix state and local taxes percentages to make government work within a fixed budget amount and lower allowable debt limits. Consolidate duplicative government agencies and services. Create a system of volunteers to supplement manpower across the government without having to hire more full time employees. Hold investigative hearings on ALDOT corruption and waste. Simplify the state tax code for individuals and businesses to reduce the sheer number of taxes and consolidate tax collection.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Religious freedom and the separation of church and state is a fundamental aspect of our free country. Freedom of religion allows us all to practice a religion of our choice according to our own beliefs without government oversight and permission including in contracts. Freedom from religion means prohibiting government from participating, mandating, or encouraging specific religious acts or passing religious laws such as modesty requirements or prohibitions of alcohol sales on Sunday.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
The freedom of association and assembly necessarily includes the right to not associate. I think the Supreme Court and the Uniform Commercial Code has set a reasonable framework in prohibited discrimination in impersonal services such as government services, water, food, electricity, etc. while allowing full freedom to not associate in areas such as wedding cakes and artwork. Individual professional organizations should maintain their own ethical standards against discrimination.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B. Healthcare access is a human right which is vital to defending the right to life the same as the right to bear arms. As a right, individuals must be allowed to procure medical treatment and insurance from private entities and persons. While not mandated by any principle of law, our government is in a unique position to provide healthcare access in a way akin to roads and parks. I would expand the state employee health insurance plan to include civil volunteers and, eventually, all citizens.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
Having worked in emergency services with fire and EMS I see the benefit to having a central database of medical records to provide a higher level of care to patients with complicated medical histories. However, having worked in government, I don't trust the government enough to deliberately give them widescale access to personal medical information. General vital statistics can be measured without specific identifying information that can be used exclusively for eugenics.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
While China and the Chinese Communist Party poses a serious threat to the United States the answer is free trade. We must engage competitively in trade with China and the exchange of students and other cultural exchanges. The primary threat posed by China is their ability to take advantage of our own short-sightedness. The United States is focused on 4 years increments in the government and quarterly increments in business while China is focused on the future 50-60 years from now.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
The United States' relationship with Israel is very important because as a nation we are responsible for the creation of the Israeli state and partially responsible for their actions, especially militarily. As such, it is our moral duty to use EVERY method at our disposal to defend the victims of Israel's continued mass murder, genocide, and foreign attacks, no matter the cost to Israel. Further, they must be immediately stopped from interfering in our elections and buying our politicians.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Agree
It is a long held constitutional principle that the federal government cannot compel state and local governments to assist federal government operations. It is the job of state and local governments to determine how funds and resources are used and prioritized. I would not sacrifice our constitution or our federalist system of government for an existential threat let alone something as minor as illegal immigration.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Agree
I do not believe in one-size-fits-all approach to education. However, I am greatly concerned by the track record of Alabama in regards to education policy. I would like to see the taxes shifted from federal to state control and then the state focus on quality education that teaches first reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Disagree
I am not concerned about foreign government influence on our students when our reading and math scores stand where they do globally. We could do well taking the advice of other friendly nations when it comes to education and all the merrier if they want to pay for it too.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
Parents have a sacred duty to hold the rights of their children in trust and to act in good faith towards their best interest. I believe authority and accountability must go hand-in-hand. Therefore, the government has no right to control the health and educational choices of a child as the government has no duty to act in good faith towards their best interest. But, that does not prevent the government from acknowledging neglect or abuse.
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Agree
Physically transitioning a child to the opposite sex should constitute child abuse and potentially a sex crime. But socially transitioning a child is only, maybe in some circumstances, neglect. But, and this is important, I don't care at all what gender a person believes they are, what kind of clothes they wear, or what pronouns they prefer to use as a child or adult.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
It is not the place of government to define, regulate, or restrict the freedom to marry or associate. The government should acknowledge the freedom to associate and the freedom of religion by administering marriage contracts between consenting adults in our courts of law.
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Agree
I support the legalization of gambling but not a state lottery. It should be legal but the state should not be directly profiting at the expense of the statistically challenged.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My values are American values as embodied in the declaration and constitution. I believe in absolute truth. Duty and accountability are at the core of our civilization. I believe the individual is the core unit of our society and the nuclear family is the most basic form of our community. Each person should strive to develop individual resilience while supporting and being supported by their family, their community, their state, their nation, and the world in that order. I currently do not regularly attend religious services. I believe in a divine creator and an objective reality.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Disagree
The government should have no role in enforcing discrimination and segregation on the basis of sex. Nor should the government have any role in determining gender placement on the basis of anything other than sex. Women's sports were created to encourage women to participate. It should now be moved to skill or weight classes where needed. Women are no more entitled than men to exclusive spaces. If a need for privacy exists then create it regardless of sex. We can wash our hands together though.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Disagree
I believe the climate is changing in some way but I don't know the extent. I believe human action is contributing to that change but I don't know to what extent. I do not believe it requires urgent political action. I'm old enough to have seen a dozen cataclysmic predictions come and go like cult leaders claiming to know the second coming. I'm much more concerned about how we treat and preserve the environment and the many species of the world.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
The most reliable energy source is nuclear. The most reliable, scalable, and cost effective source is solar.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Conservative
I believe that our institutions are generally created for a purpose. We should be hesitant to change them without fully understanding the reasons they were put in place and the potential ramifications of their removal. But, it is just as important to identify and remove those elements of our society that harm people as it is for us to preserve those elements that protect people.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
The overarching mandate of the criminal justice system should be to ensure that not a single person is punished in error. The goal of criminal punishment schemes should be to met out a fair and equivalent punishment to the crime committed including restitution. Murderers should not go free in a few years and bread thieves should not rot in jail. It is not moral to punish one man more severely than his crime calls for as a deterrent to others.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Disagree
It is the responsibility of parents and caregivers to protect children from a large number of dangers including sexual exploitation not the government's. The government's role is in catching and punishing perpetrators of crimes.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
Sharia law is not special. No religious laws should be incorporated within the legal framework of the United States regardless of the religion. Except that a private contract could be made using religious principles and the civil courts could rule on those contracts.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
