OTHER INFORMATION

QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Choose not to answer

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

I believe all children should receive the mental health and counseling support they need from their schools. I do also believe the school has an obligation to provide information to parents about their children in crisis situations. I think schools should be limited in helping a student find resources they need when there is an unwanted or crisis pregnancy.

ECONOMY

Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.

Agree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

I fully support public funding of education K-12. Not all students end up going to college, some choose military service, career or technical trade. There are many opportunities for scholarships and financial aid for students with financial needs and I do not support the use of government funding through college.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

With regard to public schools, what does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

I believe in the constitutional principle that public school must neither establish religion nor discriminate against religious expression. Student expression must remain voluntary and schools must avoid coercion. Pinellas County Schools follow state law regarding the required daily moment of silence and have not adopted a volunteer school chaplain program. My role as a school board member is to ensure district policies comply with the law and protect everyone's constitutional rights.

IMMIGRATION

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enhances the safety and security of communities by identifying and detaining illegal aliens.

Disagree

Schools must be a safe place for students regardless of immigration status. My job as a school board member is to ensure we are following general procedures the district has established should ICE agents enter a school, while abiding by the law.

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Disagree

Consequences for bad behavior create a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Agree

Every student deserves a safe, respectful classroom where learning can happen without disruption, and every teacher deserves the support to maintain that environment. I believe in and support clear expectations, fair and consistent consequences and early intervention when students need help. As a school board member, I would look to influence district-wide priorities that support effective student discipline and safe learning environments.

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Strongly Agree

As a military spouse, I believe American patriotism and engaging civics experiences like mock trials, student and government and service-learning are important. My focus as a school board member is that the state's civics standards are taught accurately, engagingly, and in a way that prepares students become informed, respectful and active citizens. We should encourage respectful classroom discussion where students examine evidence and consider multiple perspectives.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Disagree

The US DOE does not have the same responsibilities or authority as the states when it comes to writing curriculum, hiring teachers or operating schools. The US DOE does provide important responsibilities such as administering federal education funding like Title 1 and special education, enforcing federal civil right laws, administering federal student aid and collecting and publishing education data. I would not be in support of eliminating those responsibilities.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

human anatomy/the reproductive system physical and emotional health outcomes stages of pregnancy and fetal development abstinence consent contraceptive methods

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

Language Arts Mathematics Science Art & Music Information Technology American History Civics Physical Fitness Foreign Language Social Emotional Learning Personal Finances Vocational Learning Sexuality

Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and building character necessary to preserve American traditions and self-government.

Strongly Agree

School choice creates competition, and that competition will push public schools to improve their educational systems.

Agree

I support school choice, but not only because it will provide competition with public schools, but also because it provides families options specifically for their children.

VALUES

Biological males should be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My family and I currently attend Pass-a-Grill Beach Community Church, United Church of Christ, where my children are actively involved in Faith Formations and youth group. Our church is a big part of our lives, and I serve on the church council as the Youth and Family Ministry. I believe that whoever you are or whereever you come from, you are welcome at our church.

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Strongly Agree

I support the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

Strongly Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Disagree

Our church is an open and affirming church, and I believe you should be able to marry who you love.

Mental health conditions such as anorexia and gender dysphoria need to be treated, not affirmed.

Choose not to answer

School library books that have literary value, as determined by experts, should be exempt from obscenity laws.

Agree

There is process our county follows, in accordance with state law, hen instructional material needs reconsideration. If a concern is raised, the book is reviewed by a committee of educators and administrators with relevant expertise. They evaluate based on district policy, Florida statutes, age appropriateness and educational value. My job as a school board member is to ensure the district follows Florida law and School Board policy.
