QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Choose not to answer
I respectfully decline to answer this question, as I do not believe it falls within the responsibilities and decision-making authority of the school board. My focus is on issues directly related to public education, including student achievement, fiscal stewardship, and the effective governance of our schools.
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
The school should involve the student's parents with personal matters.
ECONOMY
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Agree
I completed my higher education, including a Ph.D., without incurring student loan debt. I worked diligently to earn scholarships and grants, allowing me to graduate debt-free. I believe individuals are responsible for their decisions and should be held accountable for them. However, I support debt-relief programs tied to meaningful public or community service performed over an extended period and supported by positive performance reviews.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
I believe government funding is appropriate for public education from Pre-K through 12th grade to ensure all children have access to an education. However, public schools should also be encouraged to pursue additional funding through grants, donations, and partnerships. I view college differently. Because attending college is a personal choice rather than a requirement, I do not believe the government is obligated to fund an individual's college education.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
With regard to public schools, what does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
With regard to public schools, “separation of church and state” means that no individual or group should impose their religious beliefs or practices on others. The ultimate authority over public schools rests with public institutions, not religious institutions or organizations. However, this also means a student’s right to practice and express their religious beliefs cannot be denied, as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others or disrupt the educational environment.
IMMIGRATION
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enhances the safety and security of communities by identifying and detaining illegal aliens.
Neutral
I believe this is situational and that not all undocumented immigrants pose a threat to the safety and security of communities.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Disagree
Consequences for bad behavior create a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Strongly Agree
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Strongly Agree
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Disagree
I do not support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education. While I recognize the value of state and local control in education, I believe the Department provides important functions that help address certain national educational matters and issues. It also plays a role in providing resources that individual states and communities may not be able to address as effectively on their own.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development
I support educating age appropriate students regarding sexual education, however I believe participation in instruction of the course and what aspects of the course students should be exposed to, should be per the consent of the students' parents.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
I am listing what I identify should be covered in K-12 public school IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER because what I am listing I find to be significant to a well rounded education: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Emotional Learning, Foreign Language, Civics, American History, Art & Music, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Information Technology, Vocational Learning.
Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and building character necessary to preserve American traditions and self-government.
Agree
School choice creates competition, and that competition will push public schools to improve their educational systems.
Agree
VALUES
Biological males should be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My spiritual beliefs and values are strong, deeply held, and personal, and they are difficult to fully capture in a brief written response. They form the essence of who I am and guide how I live my life.
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
I support the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.
Strongly Agree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Choose not to answer
Minors are not permitted to marry without parental consent in my state.
Mental health conditions such as anorexia and gender dysphoria need to be treated, not affirmed.
Choose not to answer
These matters should be addressed by licensed professionals, and in cases involving minors, parents or guardians should be included in the process.
School library books that have literary value, as determined by experts, should be exempt from obscenity laws.
Disagree
I would want clarification on the qualifications and selection process of the experts used to determine literary value before relying on that standard.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
My state requires presenting photo identification to vote. However I respect that election procedures, including voter identification requirements, are determined by individual states under the Constitution.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
NO
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
NO
I voted in these primaries and general elections:
2014 General Election 2016 General Election 2018 General Election 2020 General Election 2022 General Election
I voted in every Primary and General election listed. However, my current race is nonpartisan and I want voters to remain issue focused and not distracted by party affiliation.
What political party are you affiliated with?
Did not answer
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to immigration and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Conservative
I lean conservative, though on some issues I take a more moderate position.
2ND AMENDMENT
Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.
Strongly Disagree
Faculty response to active shooter situations should be left to trained law enforcement rather than faculty members with basic licensure. Law enforcement professionals have specialized training, academy experience, and crisis response preparation. Faculty already have significant responsibilities and should not be expected to engage in armed response. If any school staff are involved, it should be designated administrators who complete extensive training comparable to school resource officers.
