QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Strongly Disagree

Patients should be able to receive lawful basic health care from qualified providers. I oppose using government funding rules to single out reproductive health providers or restrict access to care.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

Abortion should remain legal before viability, and later when a patient’s life or health is at risk or serious fetal complications arise. These decisions belong with patients, families, and doctors.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Strongly Disagree

I respect sincere moral beliefs, but legal personhood from conception would threaten abortion access, miscarriage care, and IVF. Alaska should protect privacy, families, and medical decision-making. Government should not control private medical decisions.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Disagree

Families using IVF should make these decisions with their doctors. Broad embryo-personhood laws risk limiting fertility care and putting government into private family medical decisions.

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Strongly Disagree

I oppose reviving an old federal law to block lawful medication abortion or reproductive health care. Alaskans should not have medical options restricted by federal overreach.

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

Alaskans who work full-time should be able to afford basic needs. I support a fair minimum wage that keeps up with the cost of living, protects workers from being left behind by inflation, and gives small businesses clear, predictable standards.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

Free enterprise and private property are important to Alaska’s economy, especially for small businesses, workers, homeowners, and local entrepreneurs. I also believe markets work best with fair rules, accountability, and protection from exploitation.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

My top priorities are: auditing no-bid and poorly managed contracts; reducing costly reliance on outside consultants when state capacity can do the work; modernizing outdated technology and procurement systems; preventing fraud and abuse in public programs; and measuring whether spending actually delivers results for Alaskans.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Separation of church and state means the government should not establish, favor, or punish any religion. People of faith should be free to live by their beliefs, and people of different faiths or no faith should have the same rights under the law.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Agree

People are entitled to their moral and religious beliefs. Businesses open to the public also have a responsibility to follow neutral civil rights laws and provide equal service without discrimination. Religious freedom should not be used to deny others equal treatment under the law.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

B) Everyone should be able to get affordable health care, and the government has a role in making sure coverage is available. I support strong public options like Medicaid, Medicare, and other coverage choices, while preserving private options for those who want them.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Disagree

The government can use anonymized public-health data to understand costs and improve care. It should not maintain a database of identifiable people with ongoing medical conditions. Medical privacy and patient consent must be protected.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Agree

The Chinese Communist Party poses real cyber, economic, and security threats. As governor, my focus would be protecting Alaska’s infrastructure, data, ports, fisheries, energy assets, and military communities while ensuring our response never becomes discrimination against Chinese people or Asian Americans.

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Yes. Israel is an important U.S. ally in a dangerous region, and the relationship matters for security, intelligence, and diplomacy. As governor, my responsibility would be protecting Alaskans, rejecting hate and antisemitism, and supporting peace, human rights, and civilian life.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Agree

Local governments should not be forced to turn police into federal immigration agents. Public safety works best when victims and witnesses can report crimes, families receive due process, and local resources stay focused on local priorities.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Strongly Disagree

Alaska needs more flexibility and local control, not the loss of federal support for students, rural schools, special education, and career training. As governor, I would fight for Alaska’s needs while keeping education decisions close to families, educators, and communities.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Agree

Foreign governments should not be able to buy influence in American education. I support transparency, disclosure, and strong safeguards while preserving legitimate academic exchange, research partnerships, and opportunities for Alaska students.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

Parents have a central role in their child’s health and education, and the government should respect that. Schools and health systems should also protect student safety, follow the law, and make sure every child can learn and receive appropriate care.

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Strongly Disagree

Child abuse is a serious legal term and should not be used to attack families, doctors, or schools following appropriate standards of care. Parents, providers, and young people should make these decisions carefully, with safety, consent, and medical guidance.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Disagree

People and faith communities are free to hold their own beliefs about marriage. Civil marriage is a legal status, and government must treat people equally under the law. I support marriage equality and the freedom of every family to be respected.

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Disagree

I would be cautious about expanding gambling in Alaska. Any proposal should be judged on local control, economic impact, consumer protection, addiction prevention, and whether it truly benefits communities rather than outside operators.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My values are rooted in service, dignity, honesty, and care for my neighbors. I believe we have a responsibility to one another, to future generations, and to the land and waters that sustain Alaska. Public office should be guided by humility, truth, and the common good.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Agree

Voting should be secure and accessible. People should be able to verify their identity through reasonable options, not only photo ID. Alaska should protect election integrity without creating unnecessary barriers for elders, rural voters, students, military families, or low-income voters.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Disagree

I support addressing historic and ongoing harms through targeted investments in housing, education, health care, jobs, public safety, and tribal sovereignty. Any remedy should be lawful, evidence-based, and focused on repairing real community harm.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Disagree

I do not support blanket bans that exclude transgender people from public life. Safety, privacy, and fairness matter, and policies should be handled carefully by context. Everyone deserves dignity, protection from harassment, and equal treatment under the law.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Agree

Alaska is already living with climate change through erosion, thawing permafrost, changing fisheries, wildfire risk, and threats to infrastructure. We need urgent, practical action that lowers costs, strengthens communities, protects jobs, and supports a responsible energy transition.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Alaska’s reliability will come from a balanced energy mix: dependable baseload power, affordable natural gas where appropriate, hydropower, storage, transmission upgrades, and local renewables that lower costs year-round.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Lean Liberal

I would describe myself as practical and independent, with a focus on Alaska’s needs. I believe in protecting individual rights, strong schools, affordable health care, public safety, responsible resource development, and government that works efficiently for people.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

No.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

No.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

The goal should be to keep communities safe, hold people accountable, support victims, and reduce future harm. That means serious consequences when needed, fair and timely courts, rehabilitation where possible, and reentry systems that help people return safely and productively.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Strongly Agree

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation online. That includes strong enforcement against predators and traffickers, support for parents and schools, and safeguards that protect children without undermining privacy, free speech, or lawful access to information.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Agree

American courts should apply the U.S. Constitution and civil law, not religious law from any faith tradition. People are free to practice their religion, including Islam, Christianity, Judaism, or any other faith, so long as everyone receives equal protection under the law.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I support the Second Amendment and responsible gun ownership. To protect public safety, we should enforce existing laws, keep guns from violent offenders and people in crisis, improve background checks, support safe storage, and invest in mental health, domestic violence prevention, and law enforcement.
