QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
My pro-life position is personal, not theoretical. I understand the weight of this issue, and I believe public policy should protect life while also supporting mothers, fathers, and families before and after birth.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
An elective abortion should not be allowed. Medical treatment should remain available when necessary to save the life of the mother. Public policy should protect unborn children while supporting mothers, fathers, children, families, adoption, and responsible health care.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree. Human life has inherent value and deserves legal protection from conception until natural death. Public policy should protect life while supporting mothers, fathers, children, families, and adoption.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree. Human embryos are human life at an early stage and should not be purposefully destroyed. Public policy should respect human dignity while encouraging ethical medical practices.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree that laws protecting unborn life should be enforced while preserving legitimate medical care.
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
I believe the minimum wage should be an entry-level starting wage, not a permanent ceiling. Workers who gain skills and show reliability should have a path to higher wages. Policy should protect first jobs without hurting small businesses.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Free enterprise and private property rights are essential to opportunity, family stability, and local economic growth. Government should protect these rights, reduce unnecessary barriers, and allow workers, families, farmers, and small businesses to build, invest, and succeed.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
My top priorities are clear spending, measurable results, stronger contract oversight, taxpayer protection, and public dollars tied to local benefit. Taxpayers should see where money went, who received it, and what was delivered. If a program cannot prove results, it should be reviewed, fixed, reduced, or ended.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church and state means government should not establish, control, or favor one official religion. It also should not exclude people of faith, conscience, or moral conviction from public life. As someone shaped by Japanese Buddhist philosophy, I believe government should respect religious liberty, individual conscience, and peaceful pluralism while applying the law fairly to all.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
I disagree. People should be treated with dignity, but government should not force individuals or businesses to violate sincerely held religious, moral, or philosophical beliefs. Freedom of conscience protects people from different faiths and traditions, including minority beliefs. The law should protect fairness without compelling belief, speech, or participation against conscience.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Agree
I agree with studying healthcare costs, but not with personally tracking sick people. After nearly 20 years overseas, I saw that healthcare systems need accurate information to keep costs lower and access stronger. Any government health database should use anonymous, secure, limited data only, with strict privacy protections. The goal should be better care and lower costs, not treating people as economic burdens.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
I do not claim to be a foreign policy expert, and I do not want this issue used to divide people. My concern is with foreign government actions that may threaten American security, cybersecurity, intellectual property, supply chains, or economic stability, not with Chinese people or people of Chinese heritage. America should protect its citizens, workers, businesses, and economy while treating all people fairly.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. America’s relationship with Israel is important, as are our relationships with other nations. As a state legislative candidate, my first responsibility is to Washington’s 19th District. I support peaceful relations, stable alliances, opposition to terrorism, protection of American interests, and accountability for taxpayer dollars.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Disagree
I disagree. I respect people seeking a better life, and after living in Japan as a foreign resident, I understand the importance of respecting the laws of the country where you want to build a future. Immigration should be legal, orderly, and fair. Families and children should be treated with dignity, and policy should avoid placing them in unstable legal situations. I oppose sanctuary policies that weaken accountability or use taxpayer dollars without oversight and measurable public benefit.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
I agree with returning more control to states, local communities, parents, teachers, and school boards. Education is primarily a state and local responsibility, and decisions should be made closer to students and families. Any federal role should be limited, accountable, and focused on protecting students, not controlling classrooms from Washington, D.C.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Agree
I agree. Foreign governments should not control or politically influence American schools. Any foreign funding or partnership connected to education should be fully disclosed, reviewed, and subject to strict oversight. Schools should serve American students, parents, teachers, local communities, and taxpayers first.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
I agree. Government should recognize the rights and duties of legally responsible parents, including mothers, biological fathers, legal adoptive parents, and court-appointed guardians who are safe and fit. Schools and government should work with parents, protect children from substantiated harm, and keep major health and education decisions transparent. Children benefit when both mothers and fathers are recognized, involved, and respected in decisions affecting their child’s future.
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Strongly Agree
I agree. Children are still developing and can be deeply influenced by adults, peers, family pressure, and the desire to be accepted. Pushing a child toward physical or social transition before they are mature enough to understand the long-term consequences is wrong. Children deserve protection, stability, parental involvement, and time to grow without adults placing life-changing identity decisions on them too early.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Choose not to answer
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Strongly Disagree
Any gambling policy should be strictly regulated, transparent, and accountable, with protections against addiction, fraud, and harm to families.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My values are grounded in respect for life, conscience, family, personal responsibility, service, and accountability. After nearly 20 years in Japan, I learned that laws alone do not always protect people. Authority must be questioned respectfully, public power must be used carefully, and people must be treated with human dignity. Government should respect religious liberty, individual conscience, and basic human decency.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I strongly disagree. Voting is a fundamental right, and election integrity protects every legal voter. Requiring photo identification is a reasonable safeguard to confirm that each voter is who they say they are. Any voter ID policy should be clear, accessible, and not prevent eligible citizens from voting, but secure elections require basic verification, public trust, and accountability.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Choose not to answer
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Reliable energy should include nuclear power, hydropower, and natural gas for grid stability. LD 19 should use our workers, ports, industry, and natural resources to build affordable energy and higher-wage jobs.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
The criminal justice system should protect families, victims, small businesses, and communities in LD 19. It must uphold the rule of law, hold offenders accountable, and use taxpayer dollars for measurable results. We should track what reduces repeat crime, improves public safety, supports rehabilitation for nonviolent offenders where appropriate, and fixes failures that harm victims, neighborhoods, local employers, or taxpayers.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree. Washington has a responsibility to protect children from online sexual exploitation, grooming, trafficking, and predatory abuse. Parents are the first line of protection, but technology companies that profit from platforms used by minors also have a duty to reduce known risks. State policy should strengthen reporting, support law enforcement, protect families, and hold companies financially accountable when they knowingly allow harmful conditions.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Agree
I agree. American law should be based on the U.S. Constitution, state constitutions, and laws passed through the democratic process. No religious legal system should replace or override civil law, whether Islamic, Christian, Buddhist, or any other tradition. People should be free to practice their faith peacefully, but courts and government must apply one equal legal standard to all citizens.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Public safety should focus on violent offenders, illegal firearm use, and prohibited possessors. I support the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. Washington should not add costly firearm restrictions beyond the federal baseline unless they clearly improve safety. That protects rights and avoids wasting taxpayer money. We should invest in firearm safety education and practical training for workers who may encounter firearms.
