QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

Disagree

I disagree. They should keep the funding. For many people, Planned Parenthood is one of the few places to get a cancer screening, contraception, or an STI test, and they stand up for people's right to make their own health decisions hand-in-hand with medical professionals. Any controversies are what I'd argue to be human greed, and that is everywhere regardless.

Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?

At the decision of the individual who is pregnant, along with their families and doctors input. This may range from life threatening, results from rape/sexual assault, a deceased fetus, or socio-economic factors we haven't yet even considered.

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Disagree

This is a moral and religious question... I don't believe government should answer it for everyone. Decisions about a pregnancy belong to the individual, their family, and their doctor, as mentioned earlier.

The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

Disagree

This question is really about IVF... IVF makes more embryos than a family ends up using, so a rule that no embryo can ever be discarded would effectively outlaw IVF and punish couples trying to have a baby. I support a family's access to this endeavor. I can't support this. I mean, what if I had that issue, or my sister? We deserve families, if we want!

The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

Strongly Disagree

No. Blocking legal medication sent through the mail is government overreach into private medical decisions that we don't have context upon.

ECONOMY

What is your position on the minimum wage?

The federal minimum wage needs to be raised! At the state level, Washingtonians have already made their decision.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

Yes, but with guardrails! Free markets and private property definitely matter, but when gluttony gets in the way, sometimes the government has to step in to protect people's life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. It's... a genuine, delicate, balance that must be maintained and respected.

List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.

1) Adjust the qualification thresholds for public programs so help actually reaches the people who need it (i.e. DOC's MOUD [Meds for Opioid Use Disorder] program) 2) Audit agencies to target specific line-items for cuts, instead of across-the-board slashing. Obligatory, easier said than done. 3) Cap the pay for elected officials! A governor doesn't need $200K+, and no one should collect two salaries for two titles at once (i.e. Othello, WA former Mayor) 4) Remove Mega Corporate tax exemptions

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

To me, it means the government can't place one religion above a person's basic, unalienable, rights (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness). The state doesn't get to impose a faith on people, and it doesn't get to punish people for having one either. It runs both directions.

Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Agree

A business open to the public shouldn't turn people away for who they are (i.e. race, religion, who they love). Also, nobody should be fully forced to create speech they disagree with. Those are two different things, and I keep them separate.

HEALTHCARE

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.

B - Bravo! Government funded coverage should be available to everyone who wants it, alongside private options. I don't trust big government to run everything, but I don't want to take away people's choice. Also, nobody should go bankrupt because they got sick.

The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.

Disagree

Nah. A government list sounds somewhat like... a surveillance tool, and not much like a health policy. I'd much prefer to oppose this [possible] overreach from the government.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.

Strongly Agree

Agreed! ??

Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?

Of course our relationship to Israel is important! But that doesn't mean a blank check. I don't support our tax dollars going towards a government while it carries out a genocide in Gaza. Allies can be held to account.

IMMIGRATION

I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.

Agree

Yes! I'd love to support a real path to citizenship, but I'll be honest the Federal level is not making that easy right now. Also, this is mostly a Federal issue, not so much a State Rep's part, but that's where I stand.

EDUCATION

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Disagree

No. privatizing education may go terribly bad, but it should not be government ran as well.

Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.

Agree

Prohibit foreign money and undisclosed influence over American schools is a hard yes, but what is considered "funding?" We shouldn't ban academic exchanges, research partnerships, or a donated archive. The things to watch for specifically is money and hidden strings.

VALUES

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Agree

Parents have the [majority] right and responsibility to raise their children. The State's job is a standard, not a takeover. As in, every child gets an education & the medical care they need, with no child in danger. I'm not invested in government picking a family's values or questioning good parents. I want to ensure no kid falls through the cracks, and our stats go up.

Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.

Disagree

No. Transgender people are individuals who deserve to express who they are. The real question isn't "abuse," rather what's age-appropriate.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Agree

Civil marriage is a legal contract that our government recognizes equally for all. No church should be forced to perform a marriage against its own faith. That stays between a congregation and its' conscience (i.e. same churches with [slightly] differing beliefs).

I support the expansion of gambling in my state.

Agree

Yes. I don't have a strong objection. People have their niche, even when it's not mine.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised across a few traditions, experiencing the LDS, Jehovah's Witness, Christianity... I feel most at home in the Catholic tradition now. What I lead with is: love your neighbor, treat every person with dignity, and don't use the government to force your faith on anyone else.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Agree

Yes. There are reliable ways to verify who someone is without requiring a photo ID that some eligible voters don't have.

EQUALITY

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Disagree

No. a tough call. I don't support payments based on race because some people now have more access than others to their medical history tree. I do support fixing the harms you can still measure today. I'm more into investing directly in the communities and schools that were redlined, underfunded, and left behind, making that help available by need and by place.

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Agree

I hold two things at once: the safety of women, and the dignity of Transgender peoples. On shared spaces, I lean toward keeping sex-based facilities as the standard, while also supporting single-occupancy, private restroom options so nobody gets harassed. I speak from job experience, because I work in corrections. I've seen trans rights be abused for nefarious reasons. With that, if you are birthed at sex as a male, you are going to a male facility.

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT

Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.

Strongly Agree

Very much so. Right here in Washington we declared a statewide drought. Also, skiers & snowboarders had no snow in some areas, and serious flooding from what should've been snow went downstream. To the point where Richland, WA got some flooding. And that's not mentioning the wildfires.

What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?

Renewables first, but honestly solar & hydro depend on geography. The real challenge: storing that power with better batteries. I am open to small modular nuclear reactors. No single source does it all.

ABOUT YOU

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Liberal

Social matters weigh heaviest for me, especially with what's happening online. Companies like Meta aren't holding their moderators accountable, they dropped independent fact-checkers, and their algorithms reward outrage and let things like anti-Muslim rhetoric spread in local groups, for example. "Who is the next target?" I find myself wondering.

Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.

Negative. I hold these kind of people accountable in my current career in Corrections.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.

Negative!

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY

What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?

Punish, and rehabilitate where it's possible. Real rehabilitation includes teaching emotional regulation, one of many strategies I've seen matter. Encouraging people to come out ready to live differently, not just do their time. I can speak on this as a corrections officer, some dudes need more time, others need less. A delicate balance.

Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.

Agree

This is touchy. We hold companies accountable for what they build, not to force every user to hand over an ID. Platforms should answer for their design choices, like addictive algorithms & features that target peoples weak social points. At the state level, that may be empowering & funding WA AG to investigate & sue when a platform puts profit over safety. I advocate we place the burden on the company, not upon innocent consumers being collateral damage.

Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.

Agree

This is fearmongering. Singling out one faith as a looming threat is rhetoric, and not a genuine policy problem. With this, I emphasize separation of church and state. Along with a reminder of the first amendment, mentioning the government not targeting a religion.

2ND AMENDMENT

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Common-sense ones such as mental-health checks, anger-management screening (i.e. we have camera footage of drivers brandishing guns to scare people, credible verbal threats backed by evidence), and basic safety training like trigger control and proper storage. I'm open, yet hesitant, to encouraging the teachings of firearm safety towards our children. Also, I don't fully support banning ordinary add-ons like a grip or a muzzle.
