QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
While I oppose elective abortion, I think exceptions for rape, incest and to save the mother's life are legitimate. Safeguards, however, should be in place to avoid abuse of those exceptions. In cases of rape, victims should be expected to report the crime to authorities to pursue criminal charges, even if the report is delayed. Because abortion remains highly contentious, I support state-level decisions over a nation-wide mandate.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Agree
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Agree
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Strongly Agree
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
The real minimum wage is zero, when work is not offered because productivity doesn't match the cost. Government should not dictate wages, it should focus on creating opportunity for free and fair negotiation between employees and employers.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
1) Shrink the government. Government spending is rarely focused on efficiency, so reducing the span of activity is almost always better. 2) Turn legislative focus from new legislation to oversight, assessing performance based on data driven metrics. 3) Change paradigm in passing new legislation to require it identify the goal, metrics to assess performance and a mandatory reauthorization at a later date (5 years) for it to remain in force.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
There is no official state religion nor does the government that favors one faith over another.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
I lean towards disagreeing because I believe in the right of free association, but there is a valid role in countering discrimination because alternatives are not always available.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
D is the closest answer to my belief, though it would have to be a gradual transition. Healthcare is a good and service and therefore should be allocated via market based mechanisms as much as possible.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Yes. Isreal is a democratic government that, generally speaking, respects the rights of it's citizens under a system of neutrally applied laws. Supporting such a government is almost always in our national interest and is the morally correct choice as well.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Agree
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Neutral
I would want greater explanation detailing the who, how and why of the funding.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
YES!!!!
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Agree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
Marriage is a religious institution that has been co-opted by the state to confer legal rights between the couple. Most faiths do not accept the state's redefinition of marriage to include same-sex couples. If the state wants to extend rights to same sex couples, that is within its authority, but it should be a separate mechanism such as civil unions. While this is my opinion, I don't think imposing it is realistic given current situation and doing so is not a policy I would pursue.
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Disagree
Gambling may not be addictive, per se, but clearly is a trap that many can fall into. Government's use of it to fund itself is not appropriate.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I was raised Catholic and remain active in my Christian faith. I attempt to learn from scripture and apply those lessons in my decisions and actions.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Neutral
No, it is not an existential threat as has been claimed. There is evidence to suggest man made impact on climate and curbing that impact is appropriate. As a conservative, I like to conserve things, to include energy. I back efforts to reduce energy consumption and reduce emissions that balance costs with results.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
I believe we are within a generation of developing technology that will revolutionize how we produce electrical power. Once achieved, it will be so low cost and widely available that we won't care whether it is used efficiently or not.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
Support law and order within the community by delivering consequences to those who commit crimes. Once an individual is convicted, there should be effort to reform the individual if possible.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Agree
Yes, but this is a slippery slope and I am hesistant to hand power to the government unless absolutely necessary.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
While the right for the individual citizen to bear arms is a constitional mandate and the intent for it was to allow effective resistance against tyranny, clearly we accept many restrictions on what weapons are reasonable to bear. Automatic weapons are not allowed, nor are shoulder launched surface to air missiles, though it's pretty clear such weapons and more would probably be needed to combat the US Military. I think the current balance is about right and should remain.
