QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Agree
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Agree
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
I believe that if the life of the mother is at risk, or will be greatly impacted, or if the embryo is not viable, then the pregnant person should be able to make that decision with their doctor. I am not in the room during that decision and I don't need to be involved in that decision. There are many scenarios in which an abortion is necessary. So we need to stay out of the way of doctors and patients making the best choices for them.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
Every hospital and every doctor has the ability to provide an abortion when medically necessary, and I think that getting caught up in the semantics of what an abortion is and isn't, just wastes everyone's time and causes harm to women. Let people and doctors make healthcare decisions.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Strongly Disagree
Medicine should not be restricted, especially life-saving medicine. Banning interstate transportation of medicine at all should be illegal.
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Neutral
People who can afford to pay more taxes should do so in order to provide relief for working families.
Strongly Agree
The billionaire class could pay 80% income tax on their second, third, 10th billion dollars, and they will still be billionaires. There is absolutely no reason to not tax billionaires at that rate. Multi-millionaires can pay 50% income tax and still be multi-millionaires. We need a progressive income tax.
The government should cut spending in order to reduce the national debt.
Strongly Agree
Our military budget is bloated and wasteful. We could reduce our military budget and fund nearly all of our social programs in the United States at 100%. It's frankly disgusting that we have enough money to make sure everyone in our country has a house, and food, and clean water, and yet we use that money to bomb other countries, to spy, and to help another country commit genocide in the name of "self defense".
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
Military spending is the largest portion of the government budget and over 90% of it is waste. There are ways to cut budget to the military without dismantling the military. I'm not in favor of getting rid of the US military. But I believe there is so much wasteful spending, and the pentagon needs an audit.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
A business should not be forced to provide a service that would violate their moral or religious beliefs. If a business is hired to provide a service that they normally offer, but they deny the service because of discrimination against the customer, that is not a service against their moral or religious beliefs because it is a service they normally provide. The service is part of their normal business operations and cannot be denied to certain customers based on discrimination.
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Government agencies, including public schools and universities, libraries, and government services should not operate through any religious lens. Individuals have the right to practice their religion freely and safely, even in public. The government cannot dictate or limit religious expression of an individual, and government places of business cannot participate in or express religion of any kind. They must allow individuals to their own free expression without government involvement.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government. Economists agree that healthcare funded by the government is cheaper for the government and for individuals than the current healthcare system as it is. Healthcare for all ensures that medical decisions will fall into the hands of doctors and their patients, not into the control of insurance companies and people with business degrees who aren't even in the room when these medical decisions are being made.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
What a crazy statement. That's actually an insane idea and seriously messed up.
NATIONAL SECURITY
With regard to America's foreign policy, which view most closely resembles yours: A) The United States should intervene whenever freedom is threatened. B) The United States should selectively help countries trying to grow democracy and fight tyranny. C) The United States has become too involved in others' policies and should remain focused on issues regarding our own sovereignty unless in imminent danger. D) The United States should stay out of foreign conflicts completely.
We are too involved in others' policies, but we do have allies in the world, and if our allies ask for our help to grow democracy and fight tyranny, we have an obligation to help. We also have an obligation to step in when human rights are being violated. But we are not the moral authority over other nations. We cannot implement our own ideals on another sovereign nation.
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Disagree
That is propaganda.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
We need to cut ties with Israel immediately. Our relationship with Israel is important only in that they are a proxy for us in attacking and taking over the Middle East, with the agenda of the US to control the world's oil, and the agenda of Israel to create a large ethno-state and eliminate other peoples in the region. All around bad. Our connection to Israel must end, and we have to stop funding their military, which is being used right now to commit genocide of the Palestinian people.
Islamic terrorism is a threat to the United States' national security.
Strongly Disagree
Most terrorism in the United States is committed by white, non-Islamic men in the form of mass shootings. But people in power want to make an enemy out of foreigners to create a need for a larger military and more government waste. Our military wouldn't be under attack in Islamic countries if we weren't in these Islamic countries attacking them. Our terrorism at home is a much larger threat to national security. We need to deal with that first.
IMMIGRATION
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! This is engraved on the Statue of Liberty. Anyone who wants to come to the US to try and get a better life for themselves is welcome. We need to make the immigration process easier and faster, so we don't clog up the system and incentivize people to come without documentation.
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Agree
People aren't undocumented out of malice. They're not trying to take over anything; they just want to live. The reason they are undocumented is because the process of immigration is needlessly difficult, and being here undocumented is still the safest choice for them, despite the persecution they face here.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Disagree
Some states have enough money to support their school districts fully, but most states do not. The US Department of education is necessary for helping these states without the funds to ensure quality education for our children. This is not about control. This is about making sure children can go to school and learn in a safe environment.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Neutral
I think that formed government should not be directly funding or sponsoring American public schools, but I think that foreign government contracts with research universities are acceptable. In research papers, the source of funding must be disclosed, and any potential conflict of interest must be addressed. We need transparency in all of these funding situations, whether the funding came from a private donor, a group, or a government.
VALUES
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Disagree
Children are people. People have rights to express themselves safely. If a child expresses in a way that is contrary to their physical sex, they're not harming anybody. Forcing them to express themselves in line with a specific gender, whether that lines up with their biological sex or not, is harmful. Let the children express themselves and socially behave how they feel. Puberty blockers are not permanent; they give the child time to mature and then make the decision as an adult how to proceed.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Disagree
In your church, that can absolutely be true. If that's what your church and your religion believes, okay. But the government also issues marriage licenses for people to have legal marriages, not religious marriages. Your religious marriage practices are yours, and you can hold those beliefs, and I agree that the government cannot make you believe something different. But for centuries, marriage has been a strategic economic transaction, and the government absolutely defines who can partake.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I'm Catholic. I have deep spiritual beliefs in God and Christ. I have read the Bible cover to cover and I celebrate Mass and believe in the Eucharist. Because of my beliefs, I believe that every single person has dignity and is made in the image and likeness of God. God created us all of different races and ethnicities, different sexual orientations, and gender expressions. Ultimately, my job as a Christian is to help the poor, the orphan, the widow, and all the marginalized in my society. It is because of my spiritual beliefs and values that I believe that every person has the same rights. And I have an obligation to fight for those rights. I am a steward of the Earth. I have to take care of this planet because it is the only one we have.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Agree
I live in Washington and we have mail in voting. I don't have a picture of my ID stapled to my ballot, but I can track my ballot online and see when it's been counted. Mail in voting is safe and secure. To register to vote, I did need some way to identify myself. You can use a photo ID a drivers license or your Social Security number. It isn't difficult, but it is effective at proving my identity, and then my ballot is mailed to my residence as known by the government and my voter registration.
EQUALITY
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Disagree
Trans women are women. Full stop. This statement also uses 'biological males' and 'biological women' in the same sentence, which is already incorrect. If you're going to say 'male and female' say 'male and female', don't say male and women. That's mixing up sex and gender. This doesn't even account for people who are intersex. What a stupid sentence.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
I don't believe that there is a single energy source that is the most reliable, but I believe in solar and wind and tidal hydro energy. Of these, I would say that tidal energy is probably the most reliable, although it has the lowest implementation.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Liberal
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Assault rifles are used to assault. It's in the name. Private citizens don't need those. The concept that private citizens should be allowed to own guns to overthrow a tyrannical government is laughable in today's society when our military could wipe out every city in our nation with drones. Individuals with guns could do nothing against that. And currently individuals with guns are not using them to stop ice agents who are kidnapping people off the street. So what's the point other than to kill
