RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Colorado currently has no gestational limit and has constitutional protections for abortion access. I am personally pro-life and believe we should reduce the number of abortions through support for families, adoption, and maternal health. I respect that this is a deeply personal issue on which people of good will disagree.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
I would support reasonable, widely supported limits such as protections for viable unborn children later in pregnancy, parental notification (already in place), and ensuring the health and safety of women. Any changes must be approached carefully and with respect for differing views. It is up to the voters in Colorado to decide if they would like to amend the current laws in the Colorado constitution not the state legislation.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
My faith and experience as a father shape my values, but as a legislator my first duty is to represent the people of HD 24 under the Colorado Constitution and laws. I will be transparent about my principles while focusing legislative energy on issues where consensus is broader: affordability, safety, education, and water.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Strongly Agree
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Agree
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
As a principled conservative my position on minimum wage emphasizes that wages are best set by voluntary agreements between employers and employees in competitive markets, not by governmental mandates.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
As a former small business owner I believe that prosperity is created by people freely investing their labor, savings and ideas under clear rule not by political allocation of resources.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
1. Close all Taxpayer Bill Of Rights (TABOR) workarounds and rein in enterprise fee growth. 2. Prioritize aggressive Medicaid program integrity and cost containment. 3. Mandate performance based budgeting, zero based review and full state and independent audit follow through. 4. Sunset unnecessary boards, commissions and regulatory accumulation.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
No government may create an official state religion, force attendance or financial support for a particular faith or perfer one denomination over others. Citizens are free to peruse their religious beliefs without fear of government law or overreach as long as their pursuit is peaceful and lawful.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Government cannot and should not force or require individuals or businesses to provide services that violate their First Amendment of the Constitution of The United States, the right to freely exercise their freedom of religion and freedom of free speech.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Option C most closely matches my conservative position that is consistent with my principles. Medicaid and Medicare should remain available as the primary existing taxpayer funded safety net and senior program. No additional broader taxpayer funded healthcare programs are necessary. The focus should be on reforming the current programs, addressing sustainability, reducing waste fraud and abuse, expanding market oriented solution based options and controlling runaway costs.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
Creating a government database of people and their ongoing illnesses is a direct violation of HEPA laws that are their to protect patient privacy. I would not support such a bill or database if it was presented to the state house.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Agree
This is a serious "National" issue yes but, as a state representative unless it becomes a state issue it is out of my purview and/or control.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Again this is a national issue, as a state representative I will focus on what is important to my community here in House District 24 and across Colorado.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
I do not support sanctuary cities or sanctuary policies that take funding, jobs, health care, and resources away from naturally born and documented citizens.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
As a full time single father and an advocate for parental rights education decisions belong to parents, teachers and communities not with the federal government or bureaucrats in Washington.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Strongly Agree
No foreign government should have any influence in the education system, funding or upbringing of children in the US.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
Government must recognize and support the fundamental right and duty of parents to direct their child's health, education and well being. As a full time single father, I know no one loves or knows a child better than their parents. Government's role is to protect that authority, not replace it with bureaucrats or hide information from moms and dads. Parents deserve transparency, real choice and the final say.
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Strongly Agree
Attempting to physically or medically transition a child to the opposite sex is harmful and irreversible in many cases, and I believe it constitutes a serious form of child abuse. Children cannot consent to permanent medical interventions that sterilize them or lock in lifelong medical dependency. We must protect kids, support genuine mental health care and keep parents, not activists or schools, in charge of these decisions.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Choose not to answer
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am unapologetically Christian and faith is important to me as it the foundation of my life which guides my morals and values as a servant of the lord.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
As adults we must carry ID that proves who and what age we are to drive a vehicle, open a bank account, by alcohol, get on a plane along with many other activities. Voting in person (eliminate mail-in-ballots except for military and other pre-approved cases) with Government issued ID should be no different.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
This issue is a Pandora's box and is a loose-loose situation, full stop.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
As a parent and a youth sports coach I stand up for girls and women having their own private spaces as well as their own dedicated sports only for biological women. There are existing co-ed sports for both men and women to compete in.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Disagree
I do not support the claim that man-made climate change is a global existential threat requiring urgent, sweeping political change. The climate is changing and human activity, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, contributes to rising CO2 levels, that is not seriously disputed. What is disputed, which I reject, is the extreme framing that treats it as an imminent catastrophe demanding rapid, top down government transformation of the energy system, heavy new regulations, higher energy costs
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Small scale nuclear power is the most reliable energy source capable of meeting growing electricity concerns and demands as well as natural gas which is the particle and dispatchable partner that currently keeps the lights on affordably and reliably.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
The goal of the justice system should be to protect the public, deliver justice for victims and hold offenders accountable through swift, certain and proportional consequences. It exists to deter crime, remove dangerous people from society and uphold the rule of law. Not to prioritize rehabilitation above safety or to engineer socially acceptable outcomes.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
The government and justice system has a clear responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation online. This means stronger enforcement against predators, child pornography and grooming. Age verification requirements for adult content and support tools that help parents monitor and protect their children. Protecting children from exploitation is a basic duty of the government but must start at home.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
Sharia law as well as any other foreign laws should not be accepted or incorporated in any form into the US legal system. American law is grounded in the US Constitution and the equal protection of individual rights. No form of foreign or religious legal code should create a parallel legal system or override constitutional protections for any group of people.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The Second Amendment protects the right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms and shall not be infringed upon. The restrictions we need are currently on the books. Prohibiting ownership by violent felons, domestic abusers and those adjudicated mentally ill. We should enforce those laws fully, prosecute gun crimes aggressively and improve mental health intervention. New broad restrictions like HB26-003 on responsible citizens do not make us safer.
