QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

Strongly Agree

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

The school should first assess the student and make sure she is not in an abusive or exploitative situation, especially if the student is in foster care or some other precarious situation that may need to involve law enforcement, DCF or some other outside agency interventions. If none of those situations the apply, the school should then inform the child's parents of what is going on, and work with the student's family to ensure they are able to continue their education and graduate on time. Where possible, the school can ensure the pregnant mother, the father (if present) and baby receive access to appropriate services for young expectant mothers if necessary, all to ensure the parents and baby have the best chance at health and success.

ECONOMY

Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.

Strongly Agree

We also need to get more students eligible and academically prepared to earn post-secondary credit for free while in high school - this reduces the burden of higher education costs on students and families. Furthermore, when student's math and reading skills improve, their likelihood of earning Bright Futures and other competitive scholarships will increase and assist them in their ability to cover the costs of college or technical school.

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

Money should follow the child, not the system. Government education funding from Pre-K through college should empower families to choose the learning environment that works best for their child: public, private, charter, virtual, homeschool, or any combination. No family should be trapped in a school that isn't working simply because of where they live. Education decisions should be made by parents and managed at the state and local level, not dictated from Washington.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

With regard to public schools, what does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The phrase 'separation of church and state' has been weaponized to unconstitutionally strip religion from public life. The Constitution prohibits government from compelling worship, but it never prohibits religious expression. Public schools cannot silence faith. I also believe Florida's Blaine Amendment is unconstitutional and must be repealed. Born from 19th century anti-Catholic bigotry, it has since been used to discriminate against religious families and schools. The Supreme Court agrees.

IMMIGRATION

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enhances the safety and security of communities by identifying and detaining illegal aliens.

Strongly Agree

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Disagree

Consequences for bad behavior create a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Strongly Agree

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Strongly Agree

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Agree

I support the Trump Administration's efforts to reduce and consolidate the U.S. Department of Education. Education belongs at the state and local level, not Washington. That said, one federal function must be preserved: the Nation's Report Card. The National Assessment of Educational Progress is the only common measure of student proficiency in reading and math across all 50 states, and has been since 2003. Whether housed at Education or elsewhere, we must keep measuring.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

Parents are the primary sex educators of their children. Schools should support, not replace, that role. I support age appropriate instruction in human anatomy, the reproductive system, stages of pregnancy and fetal development, abstinence, and consent. I do not support instruction in sexual orientation and gender identity, abortion methods, or anything promoting promiscuity in public schools. Parents must have the right to opt out of any sex ed curriculum without penalty.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

The role of a public school is to educate, not indoctrinate. My priorities in order: Language Arts, Mathematics, American History, Civics, Science, Information Technology, Vocational Learning, Physical Fitness, Art and Music, Foreign Language, Personal Finances. I omit Critical Race Theory, Gender Identity, Political Activism, and Sexuality as inappropriate for public schools. I support Social Emotional Learning only when it is free from political and gender ideology.

Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and building character necessary to preserve American traditions and self-government.

Strongly Agree

School choice creates competition, and that competition will push public schools to improve their educational systems.

Strongly Agree

There is not a more proven or qualified candidate on school choice in my race than me. From 2014-16, I championed the passage of expanded school choice and the protection of school choice programs under legal fire in Tallahassee, including statewide public school choice (open enrollment) and education savings accounts for students with unique abilities. I also helped bring IDEA Public Schools, a high-quality charter school, to Lakeland, now serving more than 700 first-gen college students.

VALUES

Biological males should be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a lifelong Christian and member of First Presbyterian Church of Bartow. I am a baptized, professed follower of Jesus Christ who believes I am a sinner saved by grace. I was blessed to be born into a Christian household and embrace the tenets of my faith, including loving others as Christ loved us. I am guided daily by Luke 12:48: 'To whom much is given, much will be required.' I believe God called me to public service, and I seek God's guidance every step of the way.

Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.

Strongly Agree

I support the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.

Strongly Agree

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Agree

Government does not have the authority to force a church or religious clergy to accept an altered definition of marriage.

Mental health conditions such as anorexia and gender dysphoria need to be treated, not affirmed.

Strongly Agree

School library books that have literary value, as determined by experts, should be exempt from obscenity laws.

Neutral

Obscenity at times can be subjective; this is why I believe parents should have the right to determine which books their children can or cannot access at school.
