QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
No person should ever be forced to pay for the taking of an innocent life by another person. Period.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
NEVER.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
I have drafted legislation to not only establish Personhood and legal protections for the unborn in Iowa, including unused embryos from IVF, but also to make it easier and less costly for good families to adopt children and to provide better mechanisms to support and maintain nuclear families in our state.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Strongly Agree
ALL innocent life must be protected. Period. Please see my detailed response to #3.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Strongly Agree
Not only should abortifacient drugs be prohibited from transportation across state lines, but they should be outlawed. They are known to cause dangerous, and sometimes fatal complications for women, including hemorrhaging, infection/sepsis, and cardiovascular disease.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
It's perhaps the most misquoted statement in all of American history, taken from President Thomas Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in which he assured them his government would not interfere in how they worshipped. For Christians, there can be no wall of separation between their faith and their actions; this also applies to those of us who are "slaves to Christ" while serving in government. History has shown Christianity leads to greater freedom in government, not less.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
The First Amendment protects our God-given right to live our faith in our daily lives free from government interference, even when we engage in business transactions. Attempting to control the conscience is demonic/satanic, and no government that tries to do so should be allowed to stand.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
While I agree that the Chinese Communist Party is a major problem, and a serious national security issue, I also believe the China problem is not as big as we've been led to think. Logically, if they adhered to their "One Child" policy, their population bomb has already gone off. If that is true, they may not be as big of a threat as we think.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
Much like the "special relationship" with the United Kingdom, the United States' relationship with Israel is vital to its national security interests. Those relationships, however, must be give and take on both sides, or the U.S. becomes nothing more than a slave. Outside of the political relationship, there is the added moral imperative to protect the Holy Lands.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Ideally, D should be the goal, but with the "toothpaste out of the tube" and the Church not currently equipped to assist all those who truly need help, C is the more realistic situation. There is more that can be done to get those who can provide for themselves to do so, and I would push for that while also advocating for anything that moves us closer to D. Everyone should understand that is a heavy task that requires work at both the federal and state levels -- as well as within the Church.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
The government should have zero databases of personal information about its citizens. Never. Period.
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Minimum wages may have had their place in the 20th Century, but today, as the mandated minimum increases, it has a cooling effect on hiring, hours worked, and attrition. This in turn makes automation financially advantageous for employers.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What is yours is yours. You may do with it however you please. Attempting to take what is not yours, regardless of how noble the cause, is theft. It is wrong. That is why I have drafted legislation to significantly raise the bar for the use of eminent domain powers in Iowa.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
1. Change Iowa's revenue source from taxation to investment revenue through the Iowa Fund -- check out my website for more info. 2. Restructure Iowa's education system to make it more cost effective and affordable for Iowa's rural communities. 3. Remove unfunded mandates upon cities and counties and find better cost-sharing alternatives to ensure essential services are not lost. 4. Force the Legislative Branch to adhere to the same open meetings and transparency laws as everyone else.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
A nation without a strictly defined language, border, and culture is a failed state. Our immigration laws are in place to protect our national security and economy. Any subdivision of government -- city, county, or state -- that seeks to undermine those laws does so in violation of their constitutional oaths of office. They should be removed and criminally prosecuted as accessories.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
Parents have a duty to educate their children; ideally, in an "information age," they are fully equipped to do that in their own home. We're not there yet, so it is important for everyone to become engaged in the local public education system to ensure it remains education, not indoctrination. The federal government has absolutely no business trying to tell local school boards, much less the states, how to educate their children.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Strongly Agree
The Founders and the Framers were deeply concerned about foreign nations gaining outsized influence upon our nation. I can think of nothing more critical to protect in this regard than our education system, including colleges and universities.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
Equally apply the law, protect the innocent, punish the guilty, and remove criminals from society for the entirety of their sentences.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
Government also has a responsibility to not facilitate the sexual exploitation of children through schools and libraries.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
The challenge with Islam is that because of taqiyyah, the religious permission to conceal or deny one's true beliefs when it serves the faith, it genuinely difficult to know who is truly peaceful and who may ultimately seek to do us harm. Sharia is not just antithetical to core Iowa principles but seeks to supplant them. First Amendment-protected religious liberty must never be abused to subject anyone to political tyranny. That's why the Framers gave us the Second Amendment.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
None. "Shall not be infringed" is non-negotiable. Any existing restrictions should be rescinded to ensure law-abiding citizens have the maximum capability to protect themselves, their families, their property, and their neighbors.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Christian, conservative, Republican ... in that order.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
Emphasis on both recognize and support. I favor constitutional amendments to protect parental rights and responsibilities from government infringements.
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Strongly Agree
I would support legislation that not only bans the practice in Iowa, but prohibits parents from traveling out of state to have these procedures performed.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
I would add that government has no authority over marriage at all. It was created by God, and it is within His purview alone.
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Strongly Disagree
In Iowa, gambling is state licensed and regulated so that it can be heavily taxed. My opposition applies to lotteries, as well. It's all just another hidden arm of the wealth redistribution system that sells a fairy tale of immediate and permanent prosperity to an audience that has limited financial literacy.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I have accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. The Bible is my guide by which I act and interact with the world around me. My paternal grandfather, who was a church elder and deacon, strongly influenced my personal values, as well. I am politically conservative -- Calvin Coolidge is my role model -- and I strongly advocate for small-R republican principles, such as limited government, free markets, and personal liberty. I am an abortion abolitionist, a strict constructionist with regard to constitutional issues, including the Second Amendment, and a military veteran whose solemn oath had no expiration date.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Election integrity is essential to a representative government that instills trust in its institutions among its citizens.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
Taking money from taxpayers who never owned slaves to give it to people who were never slaves only serves to further divide our nation. It is not just financial theft; it steals hope by perpetuating the lie that your standing is somehow dictated by something that happened at least 150 years ago.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
There are only males and females. Even if you have yourself surgically modified to look like the other biological sex, it does not change your chromosomes. In terms of sports, males have genetic advantages that cannot be overcome, even with hormone therapy. In terms of shared privacy spaces, females -- particularly young girls -- should not be exposed to the physical appearance of a male who claims to be a "woman."
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Strongly Disagree
One volcanic eruption produces more carbon dioxide than the entirety of the Industrial Revolution. Plants and trees need carbon dioxide to grow, which results in more oxygen for humans and animals. Arguably, the sun and Earth's relative proximity and tilt have far more to do with changes in climate than anything produced by man.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear power, particularly new cutting-edge methods, are more than capable of meeting our energy needs. The biggest growth in electrical demand, however, are data centers. Far more concerning than electrical power needs are the water resource needs.
