ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Michigan should avoid minimum wage hikes that raise labor costs too quickly, hurt small businesses, reduce entry-level opportunity, and make the state less competitive.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
1. Use technology to catch Medicaid fraud: specifically, improper billing and suspicious claims. 2. Crack down on no-bid contracts and require greater transparency in state procurement. 3. Modernize state government operations: reduce bureaucracy, improve efficiency, and lower administrative costs.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church and state means government may not establish an official church, compel religious belief, or favor one denomination over another. It does not mean religious views cannot influence how people participate in public life.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Disagree
Americans have freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, and freedom of association. Government should not force people to create speech that violates sincerely held beliefs. At the same time, civil rights laws have a legitimate role in preventing unjust discrimination in ordinary commercial transactions. The law should distinguish between malicious discrimination and refusal on moral or religious grounds.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
I support meeting our state's obligation to fund Medicaid while taking stricter measures to combat fraud. We cannot uninsure the millions of Michiganders who receive Medicaid without significantly increasing upward pressure on premiums for those who purchase private coverage. Medicare is a federal issue, so my focus at the state level is making Medicaid work better for all Michiganders.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
This would be a violation of people's civil liberties — specifically, the right to privacy and doctor-patient confidentiality.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
As a state legislator, I have no control over foreign alliances.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
Sanctuary cities should be illegal under Michigan law. Cooperation between law enforcement and immigration authorities in the criminal justice system is essential.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Choose not to answer
This is a federal question. As a state legislator, I would have no power to abolish the U.S. Department of Education. As a general rule, I support local control when it comes to education.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Agree
Foreign governments should not be able to buy influence in American education. Limited cooperation with allied nations may be appropriate when it benefits the United States and is subject to strict transparency and oversight. Adversarial governments should have no ability to fund American education in any way.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Agree
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Choose not to answer
The Supreme Court has decided this question legally. People are entitled to their own moral views about the definition of marriage. Religious institutions should not be compelled to recognize marriages that violate their religious beliefs.
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Disagree
In general, I believe gambling should take place at a physical location. Online gambling companies push users to make highly improbable bets (i.e., parlay bets). We cannot allow predatory companies to psychologically manipulate Michiganders into blowing away their savings.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
Voter ID is a common-sense proposal supported by an overwhelming majority of Michiganders. This is a simple way to prevent fraud and increase confidence in the results of Michigan's elections.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
We are a society of individuals. I do not believe in the ideas of collective guilt or holding individuals responsible for the sins of their ancestors.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
During and after puberty, males competing against females in sports is physically unsafe. We cannot allow females to have athletic scholarship opportunities taken by males who identify as women. Women deserve private spaces for physical protection and peace of mind. Allowing males into women's spaces involving vulnerability is a slippery slope which violates the hard fought rights of women.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Neutral
Anthropogenic climate change is occurring, but catastrophic predictions from the 2000s and 2010s have not come to fruition. The increased frequency of extreme weather events is a threat to our economy and public safety, so mitigation measures should be taken. However, carbon neutrality mandates are foolish. We should not expect developing countries like China and India to pursue net zero policies, and pursuing these policies while other countries do not would be economic suicide.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear energy — especially with recent advancements like small modular reactors — is a highly promising source. It simultaneously provides a reliable base load while also not emitting atmospheric pollutants.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Choose not to answer
https://www.romanforrep.com/ These are relative terms. Each voter has an idiosyncratic definition. I encourage you to read my website and make your own determination regarding where I lie on this question.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
The criminal justice system should balance deterrence, proportionality, and rehabilitation.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Convicted felons should not be able to own firearms. Removing or defacing serial identification should be illegal. Those who carry firearms outside of their private property — whether concealed or openly — ought to have training.
