QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Choose not to answer
As a candidate for Katy ISD Board of Trustees, my focus is public education governance. The board sets policy, approves the budget, hires and evaluates the superintendent, and ensures student success. Issues related to criminal or medical law fall outside the authority of a local school board trustee. My priority is strong schools, supported teachers, and student achievement.
What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?
The role of the school is to ensure the student’s safety, privacy, and continued access to education while following state law and district policy. Schools should provide appropriate counseling resources, connect students with available community services when requested, and involve parents or guardians in accordance with Texas law. A school’s responsibility is not to replace the family, but to support the student academically and ensure she can continue her education without discrimination or disruption. Trustees should ensure policies are clear, legally compliant, and centered on student well being while respecting parental rights.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
With regard to public schools, what does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
In public schools, separation of church and state means the district must follow the U.S. and Texas Constitutions by neither establishing nor prohibiting religion. Students and staff have the right to express their faith, and schools must remain viewpoint neutral. Materials, including donated displays, must comply with state law and be handled consistently and legally. Trustees must ensure policies respect religious liberty while maintaining constitutional boundaries.
ECONOMY
Student loan forgiveness unfairly shifts the financial burden to those not responsible for student debt.
Choose not to answer
As a Katy ISD Board candidate, my responsibility is local K-12 governance. Federal student loan policy is outside the authority of a school trustee. My focus is ensuring strong academic preparation, expanding career and technical pathways, and equipping students to graduate ready for college, the workforce, or military service without unnecessary debt.
What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?
Public education is a core government responsibility. If the state can allocate up to $10,000 per student for private school vouchers, it should at minimum fund public school students at a comparable level. The basic allotment of roughly $6,400 has not kept pace with costs. Katy ISD students deserve equitable, adequate funding so we can recruit strong teachers, protect classroom dollars, and maintain excellence.
IMMIGRATION
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enhances the safety and security of communities by identifying and detaining illegal aliens.
Choose not to answer
Federal immigration enforcement is outside the authority of a Katy ISD trustee. Public schools are legally required to educate students regardless of immigration status and are prohibited from inquiring into that status. My responsibility is to ensure every child in Katy ISD has access to a safe, high quality education while the district complies fully with state and federal law.
EDUCATION
Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Strongly Disagree
Katy ISD schools are not healthcare providers. Instruction and services must follow Texas law and district policy. Schools should focus on academics, student safety, and counseling support while respecting parental rights. Outside medical providers should not be delivering instruction or services on campus beyond what is legally required and board approved.
Consequences for bad behavior create a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.
Strongly Agree
Safe classrooms are essential for learning. Katy ISD already has a Student Code of Conduct. The board’s role is to ensure policies are applied consistently and fairly, including proper consideration of self defense. Discipline should protect students and teachers while maintaining due process.
Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.
Strongly Agree
Students should receive a thorough education in America’s founding documents, civic institutions, and history as required by Texas standards. Teaching civics and constitutional principles prepares students for responsible citizenship while encouraging critical thinking and respect for diverse perspectives.
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Choose not to answer
The structure of the U.S. Department of Education is outside the authority of a local trustee. The department administers federal funding for programs such as special education, Title I support for low income students, and civil rights compliance. My responsibility is to ensure Katy ISD protects those resources and complies with all applicable laws while prioritizing student success.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development
Katy ISD must follow Texas law and board approved curriculum. Instruction should emphasize abstinence, consent, human anatomy, stages of pregnancy and fetal development, and physical and emotional health. Parents must have full transparency and the ability to opt their child out. Schools should not go beyond what state standards require.
It is discriminatory for a school district to cause academically eligible students to forfeit participation in U.I.L. competition when the student opts for instruction outside of the public school system.
Neutral
UIL rules are governed at the state level. Any changes should ensure fairness to public school students while protecting the integrity of team competition and taxpayer supported programs. Trustees must prioritize students enrolled in and supported by the district.
Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning
Language Arts and Literacy; Mathematics; Science; American History and Civics; Vocational Learning and Career Pathways; Personal Finance; Information Technology; Physical Fitness; Art and Music; Foreign Language; Social Emotional Learning. Political Activism should not be a school priority. Instruction must follow Texas standards and prepare students for life, work, and citizenship.
Public schools should prioritize academic achievement and building character necessary to preserve American traditions and self-government.
Agree
Public schools should prioritize academic excellence, civic literacy, personal responsibility, and respect for constitutional principles. Strong academics and character development prepare students for informed citizenship and productive participation in their communities.
School choice creates competition, and that competition will push public schools to improve their educational systems.
Disagree
Public schools improve through strong leadership, adequate funding, teacher support, and clear accountability. Diverting public dollars to private systems does not strengthen Katy ISD classrooms. If the state can fund private students at higher levels, it should first fully fund public school students.
2ND AMENDMENT
Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.
Agree
Katy ISD must follow Texas law regarding campus safety options. Any decision to allow licensed staff to carry under a guardian program should require rigorous training, clear oversight, coordination with law enforcement, and board approval. Student safety is the priority, and policies must be carefully implemented and locally controlled.
ABOUT YOU
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No
I voted in these primaries and general elections:
None of them
Texas does not have party registration. I have only voted in one primary in my life, the 2024 Democratic primary, while assisting a candidate professionally. When I turned 18 in Connecticut, I registered as a Republican. This is a nonpartisan school board race, and my focus is local education governance.
What political party are you affiliated with?
Not applicable
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to immigration and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Lean Conservative
I consider myself pragmatic and solutions focused. I value fiscal responsibility, parental rights, and constitutional governance. As a school board candidate, my focus is strong public schools, teacher support, student achievement, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
VALUES
Biological males should be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Disagree
Katy ISD is required to follow Texas law regarding participation in athletics and access to student facilities. Trustees do not set biological definitions, but we are responsible for ensuring district policies comply with state statute, protect fairness in competition, safeguard student privacy, and maintain campus safety. All students must be treated with dignity while the district follows the law.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My faith teaches me that every person has inherent dignity and value. I believe in personal responsibility, service to others, and treating people with respect. My spiritual beliefs guide my character and leadership, but as a trustee I am committed to upholding the Constitution, respecting religious liberty, and serving families of all backgrounds in Katy ISD.
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
Parents are the primary decision makers in their child’s life. Schools should partner with families, provide transparency, and respect parental rights within the framework of state law. Trustees must ensure policies protect both student well being and parental involvement.
I support the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that people should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.
Strongly Agree
Students should be taught to judge others by character, not race. Katy ISD should provide a strong education in civil rights history, constitutional principles, and equal protection under the law while promoting unity and respect.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Choose not to answer
Marriage law is outside the authority of a local school trustee. My responsibility is ensuring Katy ISD follows state and federal law and serves every student with fairness and respect.
Mental health conditions such as anorexia and gender dysphoria need to be treated, not affirmed.
Choose not to answer
Medical and mental health treatment decisions belong to families and licensed healthcare professionals. A school district’s role is to provide appropriate counseling support, maintain student safety, and comply with state and federal law. Trustees are responsible for governance and policy oversight, not medical determinations.
School library books that have literary value, as determined by experts, should be exempt from obscenity laws.
Disagree
Public schools are government entities and are not exempt from obscenity laws. Library materials must comply with Texas law, age appropriateness standards, and district policy. Parents should have transparency and the ability to opt their own child out of specific materials, but no book should bypass legal standards or established review processes.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
Election law is set by the State of Texas. As a school board trustee candidate, my focus is public education governance. I will comply with all state election laws and remain focused on strengthening Katy ISD schools.
