QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
I chose 'Agree' because taxpayer dollars should not subsidize organizations that perform abortions. While defenders argue that grants like Title X cannot legally fund the procedure itself, the reality of business accounting is that money is fungible. Subsidizing a clinic's overhead inherently frees up their other capital. Forcing working Iowans to financially support entities that fundamentally violate their deeply held moral convictions is an overreach of government power.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
I support Iowa's heartbeat law, keeping exceptions for horrific crimes and medical emergencies. This isn't political theory to me. I spent the first three years of my life in a Russian orphanage. I know what it means to be abandoned to the system. My life hasn't been easy, working double shifts just to survive, but it has absolutely been a gift worth living. Every unborn child deserves that same fighting chance. I will always stand up to protect the vulnerable who cannot speak.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Agree
I marked 'Agree' because my start in a Russian orphanage taught me the absolute value of human life. I know what it means to be vulnerable, and I believe in protecting the unborn. However, being truly pro-life also means protecting mothers. We must maintain legal protections for life while allowing compassionate, strictly defined exceptions for severe medical emergencies, rape, and incest in the early stages of pregnancy. We cannot legislate without empathy for unimaginable crises.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Disagree
I marked 'Disagree' because this specific language effectively criminalizes standard In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). As someone who deeply values life and the family unit, I fully support Iowans who are relying on medical technology to help them become parents. IVF brings beautiful new life into the world. While I will always advocate for ethical medical practices, state government should not outlaw the fertility treatments that help build strong families.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Neutral
I chose Neutral because I am running to represent Iowa, not to enforce a 150-year-old federal mailing statute. I believe in defending Iowa's laws, which protect life while maintaining crucial medical and criminal exceptions. A blanket federal mailing ban could inadvertently block treatments for miscarriages and the severe medical emergencies I strongly support exempting. My focus remains entirely on protecting Iowa law and Iowa families
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
To me, the separation of church and state is a fundamental protection for people of faith. The Founders did not want to scrub religion from the public square; they wanted to prevent a national church. Jefferson's 'wall of separation' was meant to reassure believers that the state would not interfere with their worship. As a Christian, I view this as a shield. It keeps government bureaucracy out of our churches and ensures every Iowan has absolute freedom of conscience
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Neutral
I chose neutral because this issue requires balancing two fundamental rights. No Iowan should face discrimination when accessing basic public services or buying everyday goods. However, the government cannot force individuals to create custom expressions or participate in events that violate their deeply held religious convictions. A blanket 'yes' or 'no' ignores constitutional nuance. We must protect civil rights without trampling on absolute religious liberty.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree. The cyber and economic threats are undeniable, especially regarding Iowa's agricultural intellectual property. However, I am running for the Statehouse. We have amazing people at the federal level whose job is to handle international relations and national security. My priority is strictly local: protecting Iowa taxpayers, defending our state's economy, and ensuring our communities thrive, leaving global military and cyber threats to Washington.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
I strongly agree that our relationship with Israel is vital, both as a democratic ally and an economic partner in agricultural innovation. However, I am running for the Iowa Statehouse, not Congress. My job won't be navigating Middle Eastern foreign policy; it will be protecting Iowa taxpayers and ensuring our local economy thrives. I will always support our national allies, but my absolute focus remains on the working families of District 88.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
C. I support maintaining Medicaid and Medicare because they are essential safety nets for our most vulnerable citizens and seniors. However, expanding taxpayer-funded healthcare or creating a government monopoly would place an unbearable tax burden on working Iowans and stifle the efficiency of the private sector. The government's role should be to protect existing foundational programs, not to mandate new, bloated bureaucracies that we cannot afford.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
I strongly disagree. The state has no business tracking private medical records. We already see with existing state lists, like the SOR, that massive government registries cost taxpayers millions in administrative upkeep while consistently failing to produce their promised outcomes. Building another expensive, centralized database for medical conditions is a violation of privacy and a profound waste of state resources.
ECONOMY
What is your position on the minimum wage?
I offer a highly structured minimum wage increase plan, three-year runway that ends in a permanent fix. 2027: $8.00 2028: $9.00 2029: $10.00 indexed annually to inflation to protect workers, but capped at a maximum of 3%.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Allowing business to thrive in Iowa is what makes Iowa great. A productive Iowa economy relies on letting individuals build, own, and keep what they earn without state interference.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
Number 1: IDOC- there is a lot of wasteful spending there- I saw it firsthand Number 2: Top-heavy education administration Number 3: Out-of-State Consulting Contracts Number 4: Board of Regents
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
I strongly disagree. In Iowa, this is already a settled legal issue. Our state passed a law prohibiting sanctuary cities and requiring local jurisdictions to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. As a state representative, my fundamental duty is to uphold the laws of Iowa and ensure they are applied uniformly. We cannot have a system where individual municipalities simply choose to ignore state or federal statutes. A functioning economy and society rely on the consistent rule of law.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Neutral
I agree with returning control to states, though I advocate for drastically scaling down the U.S. Department of Education rather than immediate elimination. My parents have taught in public schools for nearly four decades. I've seen how frustrating it is when out-of-touch bureaucrats—who have never managed a classroom—dictate one-size-fits-all mandates. We must strip away federal bloat and return power to the local teachers and school boards who actually know our students.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Neutral
I chose Neutral because the word 'foreign' is a legislative trap. With parents who have taught for four decades, and having hosted a foreign exchange student my junior year, I see the value in global education. We absolutely must block hostile adversaries from buying influence. However, a blanket ban would also criminalize joint agricultural research with allied nations and cut off friendly exchange programs. We need targeted laws to stop enemies, not careless bans that hurt Iowa.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
My 1 Love Legacy mission advocates for restorative redemption over punitive isolation. We must prioritize human dignity and healing root causes like trauma and addiction, but we cannot ignore the grim necessity of public safety for persistent dangers. True justice balances a victim’s need for accountability with a bridge back to society for the reformed. We need a system firm enough to protect the vulnerable, yet humble enough to allow for genuine change and a community of character.
Government has a responsibility to protect children from sexual exploitation during online activities.
Strongly Agree
Protecting children is a non-negotiable priority, but we must do so without dismantling digital privacy. I advocate for corporate accountability over mass government surveillance. We should require tech platforms to implement 'safety by design' and provide parents with transparent tools to monitor digital footprints. We must increase funding for specialized task forces to target known predators rather than scanning private communications. We can secure our children without sacrificing privacy.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree. The U.S. was founded on religious liberty, protecting the right to practice faith without interference. We must uphold the Free Exercise Clause and never ban private belief. However, I believe in the absolute supremacy of the Constitution. No religious code should ever be incorporated into our legal framework or override the secular laws that guarantee equal rights for all. My goal is to protect the church from the state and the state from the church.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I believe the Second Amendment must include a clear pathway for rights restoration. We should distinguish between "dangerousness" and a past felony. For non-violent individuals who have served their time and lived crime-free for years, permanent disenfranchisement is a failure of our system. I support reviving the Section 925(c) program for individualized reviews. We protect safety by focusing on those with a current proclivity for violence, not by punishing those who have truly reformed.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
I am a common-sense conservative whose values were forged in a Russian orphanage and tested by 12-hour factory shifts. I believe in limited government, the sanctity of life, and the inherent dignity of the individual. My platform is built on the Iowa grit I see every day behind the counter and on the production line. I am a fiscal hawk who values religious liberty and parents' rights, committed to a future where your starting point doesn't define your destination. Merit and freedom first.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
Yes, in 2021 I plead to two misdemeanors, an indecent exposure and an assault. I have taken full responsibility, completed my sentence, and used that experience to fuel a total transformation. Today, my life is defined by hard work at the factory and service through my nonprofit. I am proof that with faith and grit, a person’s past does not have to disqualify their future service."
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
Yes. In 2017, at age 20, I pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge involving company property. I was young, made a grave error in judgment, and served my time. That experience was a turning point. It taught me the weight of personal responsibility and gave me a unique perspective on our justice system.
VALUES
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's health and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree. The government's role is never to co-parent. Parents have a fundamental right and duty to direct their children’s upbringing, healthcare, and education. Growing up with parents who have taught in public schools for four decades, I know firsthand that the most successful students are those whose parents are actively involved and empowered, not sidelined by bureaucratic mandates. We must protect parents' rights to make the best choices for their own families.
Attempts to physically or socially transition a child to the opposite sex constitute child abuse.
Disagree
II chose Neutral because the legal definition of child abuse triggers state intervention. I firmly oppose permanent, life-altering medical procedures on minors and fully support Iowa laws restricting them. However, labeling 'social transition' as statutory abuse is dangerous. It weaponizes government agencies to investigate families over haircuts or pronouns. I believe in protecting parents' rights from state overreach, and we cannot invite bureaucrats to tear families apart.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Disagree
I marked Disagree because we must separate the sacred from the legal. As a strong Christian and a bisexual man, my faith is deeply important to me. I believe churches have the absolute right to define the sacred union of marriage according to their theology. However, civil marriage is a legal contract. The state cannot dictate religious doctrine, nor can it deny equal legal rights. We must protect religious freedom for our churches and equal civil rights for all.
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Strongly Agree
I strongly agree, specifically regarding equalizing the legal age. During my employee training at Casey's, I realized Iowa is an island. We force 18-year-olds, who are old enough to enlist in the military and vote, to drive across state lines just to buy a lottery ticket. That is lost revenue for our state and our local convenience stores. I support aligning our lottery age with neighboring states to stop bleeding Iowa capital across the border.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My spiritual journey began in the quiet halls of a Russian orphanage, where I first learned that life is a fragile, sacred gift. That early survival forged a faith rooted in the inherent dignity of every human soul—a belief that we are all created with a purpose that no government can grant or take away. Today, that faith is tested and strengthened on the factory floor during 12-hour shifts and behind the counter at a gas station. As a bisexual man and a devoted believer, I live at the intersection of grace and grit. I don’t believe in a faith that hides from the world; I believe in one that rolls up its sleeves. My values are simple: protect the vulnerable, honor hard work, and lead with the servant’s heart Iowa deserves.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I strongly disagree. Whether I am at the factory or behind the counter at the gas station, I see that an ID is a basic requirement for participating in modern life. Voting is our most sacred civic duty, and ensuring that every vote is legal and verified is the only way to maintain public trust in our elections. Iowa’s current voter ID law is a common-sense shield for our democracy. We must make it easy to vote, but hard to cheat, to ensure every Iowan's voice is protected.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
I strongly disagree. My life began in a Russian orphanage and was built on 12-hour factory shifts. True justice isn't found in litigating the past through race-based checks, but in ensuring every zip code has quality schools, safe streets, and tools for upward mobility. We must invest in distressed communities and local entrepreneurs, judging Iowans by their character and contribution, not their ancestry. Your starting point does not define your destination; grit and opportunity do.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
I believe in the fundamental dignity of every individual. Respect and safety are universal rights. However, we must recognize that sex-segregated spaces exist to ensure fairness and privacy for biological women. In competitive sports and high-vulnerability settings like shelters, the government has a duty to prioritize the security of women and girls. Protecting these spaces isn't discrimination; it is a commitment to the original intent of civil rights and the integrity of fair play.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Neutral
I marked Neutral because while we must be good stewards of our natural resources, 'urgent political action' often translates to mandates that hurt working families and factory jobs. Iowa is already a leader in renewable energy and conservation. I support common-sense solutions that promote energy independence and protect our outdoors without crushing our economy with red tape. My priority is keeping Iowa’s air clean and our energy affordable for the people working 12-hour shifts.
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
We must use an all-of-the-above approach. Iowa leads in wind, but the 12-hour factory shifts I work require reliable baseload power. I support expanding nuclear and natural gas to ensure our grid is always affordable, stable, and never in the dark.
