QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.
Strongly Agree
I'm pro-life.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Abortion on demand has been a moral holocaust for our country. All human life has value and we must transition America from a culture of death toward a culture of life. This will not be simple or easy.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
If the baby has died in utero.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.
Neutral
I'm open minded to such a discussion. Such embryos don't inevitably become human life until planted in the mother's womb.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.
Neutral
I don't support abortion-inducing drugs; however, I cannot support using a 150 year old law in such a manner. If Congress desires to regulate the interstate movement of such drugs it must legislate that outcome. America needs clear and concise laws - not laws which one administration rigorously enforces while the next administration ignores.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
It means the state should be incapable of imposing its sponsorship upon one religion over another.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
That would effectively redefine liberty. I am against.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The Chinese Communist Party poses serious military, cyber security, intellectual property, and global economic threats to the United States.
Strongly Agree
The Chinese are clearly opposed to America and we shouldn't be so intimidated as to admit this to ourselves.
Is the United States' relationship with Israel important, and if so why?
It is. The reasons are varied and complicated. Israel is a democracy in a sea of tyranny and they are a reliable ally. Our state legislature doesn't control the foreign policy of our country and I'm unsure of the relevance of this question.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D) Taxpayer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be defunded.
Option A would be tyranny. Option B would induce national bankruptcy and/or the inevitable degradation of healthcare. Option C is clearly the status quo which inevitably slides us toward bankruptcy. And Option D is politically impossible. I would propose Option E -- re-commidify basic healthcare costs so we can take advantage of the cost-savings afforded by a functioning marketplace while simultaneously socializing the costs associated with catastrophic care. It would require compromise.
The government should keep a database of people with various ongoing medical illnesses to assess the economic burden of treatment.
Strongly Disagree
I would be concerned with how our government could be ordered to utilize such information in the future. How would the government control the use of this data?
ECONOMY
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
Free enterprise as much removed from governmental oversight, regulation, and tyranny as possible, that is...
What is your position on the minimum wage?
Artificially imposing a "minimum wage" reflects a human conceit. The government cannot arbitrarily assign the value of one's labor and impose it upon the marketplace. It is wrong. The true minimum wage is currently between $12 and $15 an hour.
I support using taxpayer funds to lobby the state legislature.
Strongly Disagree
I oppose the existence of public sector unions, as well. That would effectively prevent publicly-funded public sector unions from lobbying the state legislature.
List your top 3-5 priorities to eliminate government waste.
1. Focus government spending upon public health and safety, public infrastructure, and training/education. 2. Re-define the majority's definition of "success" upon making the government actually smaller on a year-by-year basis. 3. Complete the elimination of our state income tax. 4. Reorient the social safety net to support families. 5. Address affordable housing shortages by incentivizing home ownership.
IMMIGRATION
I support the existence of sanctuary cities to protect undocumented persons.
Strongly Disagree
Is a detailed response necessary? Article VI of the US Constitution describes the Supremacy Clause establishing federal law over conflicting state laws. Sanctuary policies clearly conflict with federal immigration law. Sanctuary policies are not only partisan and divisive, they're immoral.
EDUCATION
I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.
Strongly Agree
Again, this action isn't under the purview of our state's legislature. But, I would support this outcome.
Foreign governments should be prohibited from funding American education.
Strongly Agree
I favor our academic institutions spending other people's money; however, such money will normally come with preconditions and our academy cannot be trusted to draw clear lines avoiding issues which may conflict with our nation's sovereignty.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
What should be the goal of the criminal justice system?
1. Separate the lawless from the lawful. 2. Seek social rehabilitation for unlawful citizens to rejoin our society, whenever possible. 3. Ensure we treat society's prisoners with a reciprocal respect while they are wards of the state.
Sharia law should not be accepted or incorporated in any form within the legal framework of the United States.
Strongly Agree
The government should use automated-enforcement cameras to track speeding and criminal activity.
Neutral
I concur with the use of cameras to enforce speed limits. And I concur with the concept behind using cameras as a law enforcement tool. However, we must be careful to avoid inadvertently granting our government too much authority to establish a police state. These will not be easy lines to draw.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The 2d Amendment exists to protect the 1st Amendment. It is our final bulwark against tyranny. I don't support restrictions lightly. But, any restrictions should reflect negative social behavior. I support restricting the gun ownership rights of persons who have demonstrated they're not interested in following our rules. Otherwise, no.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
I am A conservative and the moniker - correctly understood - requires no amplification. I have a healthy mistrust of centralized authority. Liberty requires order, not chaos. Increasing government authority requires decreasing personal liberty.
Have you ever been penalized for sexual misconduct in either civil or criminal court? If so, please explain.
No.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony? If so, please explain.
No.
VALUES
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I'm a born-again Christian. Marriage is the foundation of the family. The family is the basic building block of our society and culture. Most of our society's ills flow from the measurable disintegration of functional families. All of our social safety net policies should reflect an understanding of this basic reality.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.
Strongly Agree
That is my belief. I also recognize the Constitutional primacy of Obergefell v Hodges...
I support the expansion of gambling in my state.
Neutral
Gambling is a societal vice. However, my own constituents are already negatively affected by having a casino less that 40 minutes away from us. We already suffer from the negative aspects of casino gaming. We should also consider whether the positives accruing from casino gaming should not be made part of that equation.
Government should recognize and support the fundamental right and essential duty of parents to direct their child's upbringing, including their religious, health, and educational well-being.
Strongly Agree
Attempts to transition or encourage a child to transition to the opposite sex constitutes child abuse.
Strongly Agree
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
The people's expectation of the state's conduct of free and fair elections should be sacrosanct. Equally important is the perception of free & fair elections. Requiring a photo identification to vote is already Kentucky's law. I pray the rest of the country takes our elections more seriously.
EQUALITY
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
It is difficult to conceive of something more divisive than this proposal. This has the potential to hasten the destruction of our country.
Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.
Strongly Agree
Obviously.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
What do you believe is the most reliable energy source that will supply the growing demand for electricity?
Nuclear energy.
Man-made climate change is a global threat and requires urgent political action.
Strongly Disagree
We should always retain a healthy respect for our environment and lessen our negative impacts whenever and wherever possible. However, we also should not bankrupt ourselves by eliminating cheap and plentiful energy as a source. Man has harmed the environment ever since we first left a cage and defecated on the ground. The key truth is that only recently has man learned to actually clean up the messes of our own making.
